“I’m tentatively perched to jump on…” needs to be added to the official booktube lexicon. This is what I say now. Excellent list, Ben. Thank you for your bookish public service.

Off topic, but just wanted to say today I finished reading your previously mentioned "Still Life" by Sarah Winman. Looooooooooooooooooooooooved it! Such a wonderful cast of characters with such beautifully poetic prose. One of those books that is feel good without being saccharine sweet. Would have never heard of it without watching your vlog, so thanks, Ben!

Great selection, thanks! I don’t think I’m capable of really choosing 😅 Some other new releases I’m excited about (I’m certain there are typos so pls ignore!) that I jotted down from Rainier Books: She and Her Cat (stories) by Makoto Shinkai and Amariki Nagakawa Everyone Who Is Gone Is Here by Jonathan Blitzer Come & Get It by Kiley Reid Cahokia Jazz by Francis Spufford Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange Goodnight Tokyo by Atsuhiro Yoshida The summer We Crossed Europe in Rain by Kazuo Ishiguro

Thanks for sharing! Goodnight Tokyo is one I'm super interested in, but I don't think Europa have announced a UK release yet (assuming they have the rights to it over here as well). Hopefully an announcement will come soon! I didn't realise there was a new Ishiguro on the way 😱 Is it a novel or something else?

I'm trying to read from my shelves...so not sure why I clicked here. Bugger! It's like I've shot myself in the foot, so many excellent looking books! I'm just reading Cuddy now so I'm up for some more Myers. Also, just finished North Woods and already craving some more nature writing so Powers new one is high on my list. Yet to get to The Trees, so might hold back on Everett's but I know I want to read his work sometime soon. Looking forward to hearing about what you think of the others.

Thanks, Ben!🌷I’m looking forward to hearing more about James and The Playground (loved The Overstory and have Bewilderment on my shelves, which I would like to read first). I’m also intrigued by Hollinghurst. I’ve recently read The Sparsholt Affair alternating the book with the audio version narrated by David Dawson. It worked beautifully!
@benreadsgood

Oooh you must get to Bewilderment. It's such a gem! And that's super interesting alternating a book between print and audio. I've only ever done one or the other but am considering 'both at the same time' for Tom Lake, but alternating is an interesting idea. Guess it allows you to easily continue with the story in lots of different scenarios.

Great list, BEN! I hadn't heard about Toward Eternity. The blurb sounds really intriguing. Anton Hur is a name I keep hearing about. Didn't he translate Counterweight? Have you read that yet? Also have the ARC to Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar, and it's a top priority on my TBR. (The US cover is better than the UK one lol). I have two more suggestions for you. OURS by Phillip B. Williams, and My Friends by Hisham Matar. They're both major titles here. I share your deep anticipation for James by Percival Everett and Playground by Richard Powers. What about the new Elizabeth Strout book, Tell Me Everything?
@benreadsgood
8 ай бұрын
I haven’t read Counterweight but he did translate it! He seems so prolific in his translation work so it’s very cool that he’s managed to squeeze in writing his own novel. I love the premise so I hope it does it justice. The less said about the UK cover for Martyr! the better 👀 Ours sounds fab but it’s ENORMOUS so I am not committing until I hear more, and My Friends missed out on this list only because I was so late with it… I didn’t want to include any books already released! Definitely interested in the new Elizabeth Strout, but we’re not getting it in the UK until 2025 😢

Martyr! is out here on Tuesday. I think I might go to Barnes & Noble later to see if I can snag it early. Other than that, one of my most anticipated is Anita de Monte Laughs Last by Xochitl Gonzalez. Her first novel, Olga Dies Dreaming, was one of my favorites of 2022.

I predict Fruit of the Dead for the Women's Prize Longlist. They seem to like to have at least one book that won't be available to read yet at the time of announcement, and if it's a sort of mythology retelling? Yeah, for sure 😆 Seriously though, I'm looking forward to James, and Butter sounds fab 😄 But my most anticipated book is Gliff by Ali Smith coming in July!

It could well stand a chance! There are also some other interesting retellings like Julia which might edge it out, but I'm so excited to find out... not long to go!
