This is it guys! It took me around 12 hours to complete this yanagiba and I'm very pleased with the final result. It was a first for me to make a full kasumi on a yanagiba and I don't think it's gonna be the last one 😉
The challenge was the ura because it's so hard to work with the core steel. After removing a lot of pitting and all the factory grind scratches, I've made a special paste to make the finish migaki. Not perfect, there's some small pitting left, but still look nice. I now have a "recipe" I can reproduce for another's project.
The hira was bring to semi mirror with sandpaper. I stopped at 3k.
For the kireha, after removing pitting and scratches, I did a full progression on natural stone. It was the perfect moment for me to try a stone I bought not so long ago, a Natsuya. Pretty happy with the outcome, especially on the hagane. Everything was blended with my favourite uchigumori (available on my website) with a lot of patience and trial and error to achieve this finish.
6 custom handmade handle are on the way and I will pick the perfect one to finish this project. This yanagiba is gonna be for sale too. If you are interested just send me an email!
Have a good one!
