I originally missunderstood Delta pegs as being the 'stronger peg'. However I now see Delta pegs being really 'secure' and good for moorlands, where the ground is soft, maybe in the mountains between rock outcrops you get soft depressions. In these conditions a lot of other pegs can just pull straight out of the ground or even rip through the top layer of vegetation. Delta pegs will perform well in very soft ground, where other pegs fail. Horses for courses.

Lol...!😂 Who's got upset then...?!🤣 Different pegs required for different times of the year & different ground conditions...💯 I generally use thinner metal pegs for harder ground & fatter plastic pegs for softer ground...✔️ Looks like U've had some sunshine...!🌞🥵😄...👍

You could hunt Vampires with that thing! A peg is a peg. You will break some. You will hate some. You will love others. You can carve a tree branch into one in a worst case scenario or use a rock around your guidelines. The ones I hate the most are the Titanium L shaped ones and shepherd hooks. . They bend and snap as soon as you look at them the wrong way. . I like the little Nature hike ones to be honest. For a all around peg they are great. Thick enough to not break or bend and small enough to go into almost any surface.

Its all about correct use, application and weight distribution. If you can get them into the ground, they will carry much more weight than a alloy 'Y' tent peg or even a 10" Storm Peg.

For sand ….. I would use Delta pegs as they’ll pull out. Instead, take along some plastic carrier bags and ¾ fill them with sand and then bury the bags in the sand with just the handles sticking out. Tie your guy lines to the handles.

I use the delta pegs on my 4 season tent in stormy weather i only camp in the lakes or Cheviots and I've never had a problem getting them in unless it's solid rock then no peg will go in outside of really strong winds I use a mix of mini ground hogs and the bigger size.for snow and sand I'd use the really big snow pegs.

I don't understand the Delta Pegs. If you draw the vectors for forces the lines go right along that horizontal part which means, it isn't doing anything. I thought maybe they went the other way and now you're tent line is trying to lever it out of the ground. And being nylon they're not as strong as metal stake. And because of the thickness of the material they're hard to stick in the ground. I've pitched my rain fly in 30 mph gusts with the mini stakes without any worries. More stakes will always be better than gimmick stakes. What I also know from nailing drywall to staking my tent is that two stakes near each other reinforce and stabilize each other so they don't pull out. Problem solved. (Is anyone using the delta stakes at base camp on Everest? Didn't think so.) But here's my best tip. That aluminum stake with the string attached? I had a bunch of small red ones with a dark green string loop on them. I also had some bright orange aluminum stakes. After two nights trekking in England I'd lost two of the bright orange stakes. How was that even possible? Then I looked at that string, scratched my head, then tied about 8-10" (20-25 cm) of orange paracord to each stake. Three months, never lost another one. At home, after searching for my TV remote, I taped on a piece of that lightweight orange construction ribbon. Tails work great. I've used them in many ways.

Mallet review when?..... joking, but not a fan of these outside of very special condition.... plus if the tent moves alot in the wind(above the amount of spring that guylines have...the guy will just drop out,as the notch faces down)

My opinion is: for backpacking camping, as ground becomes harder and harder, the type of peg I use becomes more and more like a nail. I can't see myself ever needing to pitch a backpacking tent with delta pegs. I have needed to use some swiss pirhana serrated plastic jobbers before though, but they're so light i dont mind carrying em as a second set (6g each). For touring camping, yeah; I'm carrying a mallet and banging in the biggest peg I can get in the ground. As long as people were just giving you *their* opinions in relation to yours, no harm in that. I just wish people would realise that opinions are like bumholes: everyone has one.

😂Hello Andy, I usually watch the vids on the TV so don't get to see comments that often. I did think at the time that this would rattle a few feathers. I agree with you, even though I always take 2 delta pegs with me when hiking with my Lanshan 2. Usually I am pitching on harder ground and 8t can take quite a few stamps to get the peg into the ground. On softer terrain or in compact snow they're perfect. No peg is perfect if the truth be told.

I have a few different types of peg - but this is the best for very wet, boggy ground, or very loose sandy ground. They're expensive, bulky and not suitable for very hard ground. It's horses for courses - pick the right pegs for the weather, the ground and the type of tent. I used the Delta pegs for my canvas bell tent on a soggy hillside in 50+mph gusts in a storm so extreme that it forced water through the canvas in a fine mist - the delta pegs did their job! (and so did the tent!)

Take 2 of these on hikes just in case ,they stand up to anything the weather throws at them. Great for base camps, bad weather, windy environments, etc....and very robust but extra weight of a mallet is a matter of choice as your test proved. Never had any issues with these pegs. Again it is a matter of choice and experience with these pegs.

I agree with you Andy, these pegs are good for soft ground, but I found if you use these on hard ground or ground that has even the most basic or root systems underneath you are buggered. I broke one of mine trying to get it set 👍

Still not mastered the Delta peg. They work brilliantly for camping sites where the ground is normally reasonably good and consistent. The other massive plus is when used correctly they are flush with the ground without sharp bits sticking out to damage feet or anything else if someone trips or falls. I’m trying out some titanium 8mm round pegs next week will be interesting how they perform.

I take 4x of these with me for soft ground conditions - they’ve proved invaluable. I’ve also got the titanium version for hard ground which are about ⅓ of the size. Generally I use MSR ground hogs, both the standard size and the 10” ‘twisted’ version.

@@craig3401 they are made by an alternative company - they also work great but you do need something to hammer them into the ground with.
