When I was a US Marine infantry platoon commander in Vietnam from 1968-69 my platoon didn't fight in towns. We did fight in simple villages but mostly in mountains, jungle, dense terrain, and rice paddies. Combat is never easy. In my experience, fighting in dense terrain, jungles, and mountains was just as challenging as the Ukrainian forces fighting for villages and in towns and cities. The biggest difference was that in the area I operated in, neither the Viet Cong nor the North Vietnamese soldiers had heavy artillery or tanks. We had artillery support but it wasn't that much and tanks were useless in the terrain I was in. The enemy did have 82 mm mortars which they used effectively, but we were so far out of range of our 81 mm mortars that I only had a squad of 60 mm mortars that could only provided direct line of sight support and we were extremely limited how much 60 mm ammo we could carry on patrol. Nevertheless, there is no such thing as an easy combat engagement. It is like total war at the personal level. I admire the Ukraine forces for their ability to endure heavy artillery, tank, and long range mortars. and human wave attacks. I think that the Ukraine army is perhaps one of the most bravest and effective fighting forces. However, no one has ever won a war on the defense. At some point Ukraine is going to have to accept the losses in taking back their country. During WW II, the US Marines and our Army sacrificed heavy losses in order to win. Our heaviest losses were when we did win strategically critical battles, but we also won the war. The wars the US didn't win was because our political leadership was too timid because of political reasons. Reelection for them was far mor important that winning the war the Korean War or the Vietnam War. The sacrifices that we made in those wars were unimportant to the politicians for reelections. This is why I say that if the US goes to war it should be to win in the least amount of time regardless of the casualties because a war of attrition is a war the US cannot win because of the lack of political and popular support. I'd rather lose 5000 KIA in two months and win than lose 5,000 KIA in 10 years and lose. But then I was a Marine and I wanted to win.

the biggest thing evident from this footage was the lack of communication, their squad was basically off on their own doing their own thing (still going to do the objective) but once they go out they're kinda on their own, things could go so much smoother if there was some network to communicate with, even walkie talkies would work

Blame Elon Musk. because we cannot be seen as giving Kiev direct military assistance beyond material support and some training or else we risk Moscow taking it as our formally throwing a glove on the field and hence starting WWIII. which is just what Putin want's. he knows he can't win now, and his ego will not let him concede defeat no matter what. so he is gonna try and draw his enemies down to his level and viewed as equals in the worlds eyes. with his election meddling, promotion and support for trump and his "movement" he has shown the world that democracy maybe isn't everything the west says it is. trump's distrust in NATO and basically having no clue it's strategic importance, even the importance of supplying Kiev, the cheapest way to fight an adversary risking no American lives.not seeing all the benefits we gain with out continued support. the many middle east experts say trump's move of the American embassy to Jerusalem prompted HAMAS to start it's planning of the OCt. 7th incursion. thinking the US has forsaken them they figured diplomatic solutions were impossible without the strong hand of the west, Israel's major donor and lifeline, both sides would never even get to the table let alone work out a deal ending centuries of fighting. (sorry Jared Kushner didn't do shit in the middle east except line his pockets and sell this country out to whoever would bail him out of all his past dumb business ventures.) sorry. Elon Musk. he owns starlink satellite systems. brining wifi to the world. his equipment in orbit cover that whole section of the globe. so the US government paid Musk for service coverage to the country. coverage Elon can control down to individual house. he now uses that power for his own gains. starting with him cutting service during a key phase of the spring offensive by Kiev to retake cities in russan hands. turning the tide of the war in favor of Russia. to show the white house what will happen if he is ever taken to task for anything he does. like the hundreds of apes the violently killed themselves in gruesome self mutalation events after getting his neurolink systems implanted in their brains. now he has implanted the first human. approved even after everything by the government how is terrified he will throw in with Putin and change the power structure of the world. so in the end it was elon musk and still is who is providing Kiev with shitty wifi and charging the US a fortune for it. when countries where he also provides service in the area have crystal clear fast speed connectivity so it's teenagers can scroll tic toc.

Having to worry about a conventional military, especially Russia, I can’t even imagine how draining it is on the troops.

@@nothanks9503 I’m gonna have to disagree with you. I’ve been to combat and it’s mostly boring the shit we did. This is different. Having to worry about drones dropping munitions on you or a SU35 popping up over the horizon are worlds apart from our occupation roles in the GWOT. Those are two vastly different 15 minutes. Most firefights in the GWOT were over in less than an hour. That gives you time to recalibrate and chill out. There’s no decompression time when you go back to base to get an artillery strike called on you.

@@DennyBass I’d say there’s probably a large variety of situations in both cases but I imagine even during occupation it’s like driving a car sure there’s nobody swerving all over the road so you feel safe but your brain knows you’re moving at way faster speeds than your body is designed for so there’s still an underlying level of stress and that’s what causes road rage
