How wonderful to find a musical masterpiece which brings back so many happy memories

my local public radio station (WUOT) in east tennessee would play episodes of the radio edition of 'my music' back-to-back with 'my word' on late sunday evenings (11pm i wanna remember) those first 25 notes on the piano in the opening never fail to trigger the warm-and-fuzzies with me, and hearing the panelists busting each others' chops just brings me back to snuggling up in bed and dozing off to this as a kid.

In middle TN, it was played on Thursdays on WPLN. I have never felt such intense nostagia-type memories as hearing the entrances to these shows...the internet is wonderful sometimes.

All the way from NZ - this stirs memories and emotions beyond description. I used to sit, on a Sat morning at 11 o'clock, in the 1970s, to enjoy my mother's freshly-baked savoury scones along with tea or coffee, to savour the extraordinary talent from these entertainers.

I've been looking for a televised episode of this for years. For a very short time WGBH in Boston showed some. I hope you have a couple more of these; as a long time listener of the radio shows, I find them fascinating.

Thank you. What a wonderful, simple little quiz that takes me back, so different from today's 'in your face' programmes and tv quizes that pass for entertainment and the rendition of 'The Rose' had me in tears, wonderful stuff. :)

After all these years of listening to the radio version, I finally know what Steve Race, John Amis, and Ian Wallace look like! (I knew what Frank and Denis look like from the covers of the "My Word!" books.)

I loved this show, but I used to get annoyed by Ian Wallace's singing at the end. He always seemed to be belting our the money notes with a strong element of "Look at me. Look at me", but SEEING him perform as well as hearing him, has made me rethink my reactions. I was really engaged. I hope more of these videos appear as the 2 companion programmes are as good as I remembered them - Maybe even better.👏🌟

This was such a treat for me! Thank you for posting! When I was a teen living in South Carolina, I listened every Saturday to My Word and My Music. I even taped many onto cassette tape. I didn't know they were televised. What a treat to see these wonderful, funny men doing their thing. :)

Yes, it started out on BBC 'Home' Channel at the start of 1967 & ran for 27 years. Then in 1977, it progressed to Tv, where a version of the Radio Show, was broadcast for 6 years !!! 👍🏻😀

Interesting to hear "The Rose" interpreted as an English folk song.

I have a recording of the Radio Show on Reel-to-Reel Tape, which must be an early one, as the 4 Contestants are: Ian Wallace, Denis Norden, David Franklin & Lionel Hale. As regards the latter two, I don't know much about them, or their involvement in the Music business & I've no idea what they looked like, as they didn't progress to the Tv version !!! I keep looking on the Web, for more uploads, like this one. & hope the BBC themselves might make a few more available. 🙂

This was an amazing show, my parents used to watch it, and eventually I took more and more notice. I remember an episode where Ian Wallace sang the most amazing piece of English light music.. it’s haunted me ever since especially as I’ve never been able to find it since. Grrrrrrr!
