I too pride myself on being a minimalist videographer- super helpful. I just switched from canon to Fuji so trying to make my canon primes and sigma zoom work for now.

Pretty good advice. I had the sigma 18-35mm but sold it with my URSA and I miss it fr. That lens was so sexy… 35mm is also my fave focal length. The 18-35 is so sharp and fast it’s almost like a prime too.

Yeah it’s my favorite lens. Try the Sigma Art 30mm 1.4 I think you’ll love that too! Not the contemporary, they have an art version I dig

3:30 THANK YOU! I understand the need for things not to be made of tungsten but when we're talking about "saving weight" and "this lens is so heavy it's 54 grams heavier than the competition" like come on now. It's not a con to have some heft, it usually means it has a lot of technology and glass packed in to make it a better lens.

Big fan of the "Take what you need, but not more or less" approach. My 2 main ones, are the 16mm 1.4 video (handheld mostly) and the 16-55 for photo. However I use a specific 35mm cine lense for a lot of serious filmmaking stuff with a rigged out X-H2s. I also have a 55-200 on stand by for long range photography, which comes in handy. That has been my lense setup for almost 2 years now.
@lexgraham
Жыл бұрын
Yeah the 16mm 1.4 was tempting and now it is even better with the 6k open gate you can crop all day and get more from one lens. But when Filmmaking I prefer a zoom or a standard lens like a 35mm that way my actors can get a little bit of breathing room from the camera

Great review. Simple, straight to the point, and lacking the annoying video cuts every 2 seconds some reviewers do. I shut those off after 5 seconds it bothers me so much. :) Same reason I never liked Max Headroom (yeah, I'm old).

I've used the 23mm 2.0 for years with my XH1 and now with my XH2s. As for a video zoom I considered the Sigma but the cost including the Fringer is a fair bit more than the Fuji 18-120, which I purchased instead. Have you compared the two zooms?
@lexgraham

The 18-120 is great but for a shallower DOF and better better low light I went with the sigma.

Really enjoyed the video and your straight forward approach. I'm planning in switching to the X-H2S and have been struggling to decide which all around lenses should I get for stills/filmmaking. You made me want to keep my 18-35 f/1.8 instead of going for native glass. I have one doubt, what's the difference in performance, apart from the aperture ring, between the pro and non pro version of the Fringer fx adapter. Keep up the good work.
@lexgraham
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I find that the Sigma 18-35 is a like a filmmaker right of passage. Although I suggest looking into a native prime lens or some vintage glass as a backup. There’s no difference in performance from the fringer adapters, Just one has a aperture ring and the other doesn’t.

I really really thank you for your input. I just purchased my first ever fuji camera x-h2. I'm waiting for the fringer adaptor to turn up to be able to use my sigma ef-s 18-35 as well! I've got the ef-s 10-22f3.5-4.5 also. I don't know how that one will behave on the fuji cam but it should be ok for a start hopefully. I'm after a prime and was thinking of the FUJIFILM XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR. What do you think? I mostly do street photography. Cheers from NZ

I guess it comes down to what your pockets can handle. Because the S5 for that price is second to none. But if you’re willing to spend the extra money…XH2 or XH2S
