Add a pond net cuz there are predators who can empty your pond out in a day. You can leave your fish (if they're small fish) in 2' of water in the winter if you put in a heater to keep a hole open and maybe also have a small pump to circulate a little bit of water. Most likely the top will freeze, like my pond, but it will only freeze about 4"-6" at the most on a bad winter, unless you are really far north. Just need a hole for the gases to escape. If ice builds up, do NOT strike the ice as the shock will hurt the fish. I live in MA and my fish never come in. Also add some water hyacinths in the upper tub as a bio filter. Can put them in with the rest of the fish, but they like to eat them. Good luck! That's how I started out... Now after 2 pond upgrades, my pond is about 18'x24', 3' deep with an Aquascape wetlands bio filter.
