I would say for anything under the custom shop that’s probably true. And then, if you get into the custom shop range, there’s a pretty big price disparity where you’re paying more for not as good of an instrument and certainly not as customized.

Yeah man! I’ve been playing three-pickup Teles off and on for a little over twenty years now! The most stable Strats I’ve ever had were three-pickup Teles! It took a long time for me to learn to appreciate a standard Tele. I kept hoping to find Strat sounds that just weren’t there. So I always added a middle pickup. Eventually I grew up and committed to building a standard Tele style guitar with Warmoth parts and insisted that I would let that Tele be a Tele, and I’m super happy with that guitar. I still rock a Nashville Tele from time to time though. Great vid!

I absolutely LOVE my G&L. I dont have much experience with them, and have never had the pleasure of trying the USA made ones, but my G&L Tribute S-500 is amazing. I would love to be able to own a USA model one day. I own a Player Series Tele and even though i prefer a Tele over a Strat, the G&L surpasses the quality of the MIM Tele by a long shot and the G&L is 200 bucks cheaper. Mason, have u messed with the pole heights on the MFD pickup yet? Its surprising how much of a tonal difference it can make. I had my G&L for almost 2 years and never messed with the poles until about a month ago. I just love how u can fine tune the pickup to your liking. Such a cool idea. I really want to replace my Player Series Tele with an ASAT. Cant afford a custom, but even the Tribute ASAT would be nice.

Steve Howe of YES has had a custom Telecaster with a single-coil in the bridge, for that "icepick through the forehead" Tele bite and a humbucker in the neck position for mellow, Jazzy tones. Andy Summers of The Police also played a Tele with a humbucker in the neck. I had an American Fender Telecaster H/S, which had that same pickup configuration plus "5-Way Switching." Nice combination of options. I own a number of G&Ls so I could see how your Custom Shop guitar shares traits with them. My G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy is a semi hollow with the standard humbucker in the neck. (Not splitable) That was an option order from the standard USA made models. Next is my G&L ASAT Classic S with the 3 MFD pickups. (Nashville Tele style) Those two guitars would be the DNA of your Custom Shop plus options. I also have an ASAT Classic S Alnico. (Nashville Tele style with three Alnico pickups instead of MFDs.) Both Classic S guitars have the push/pull volume pot for the extra pickup options as with yours. Winter NAMM 2019 I got to visit the G&L factory with Leo's tools, equipment and design DNA all through the place. Congrats on the new guitar. I can feel and relate to your excitement.

My favorite guitar company. The Modern Classic neck profile is pretty magical. I personally prefer the MFD in the neck position to a humbucker but that’s me.

@@kyledriscollmusic I never understood the hate for G&L "hook" headstocks. I've always liked them. Is it just because it's not a Fender headstock? There are far worse headstock designs out there, cough PRS cough.

@@tiki_trash I don't like the prs headstock either but I'd take a prs headstock over G&L no it's not because it's not a fender, there's plenty of great headstock designs out there: most gibsons, novo, rivolta etc

So your guitar sound fantastic ! I got a G&L Legacy USA SSS… it is a pretty sic guitar . I am not sure why many guitar heads pass this brand even the ones before 2006 which were all done how they were in early fender years. Leo had taken most of his guitar machines and placed them at the G&L shops to run G&L.

I have a Strat and a LP. Almost all the music I want to play is covered by one of these. I love the Strat sound but I find it so much harder to play than the LP; my hand and forearm get fatigued much, much faster. The Strat is a USA Deluxe from a decade ago (us10088164). The LP is a '96 Standard. Is there a guitar out there where I can get that Strat sound but with a neck that is more like the LP experience? I don't know what it is that makes playing the LP feel different (scale length?). This channel is excellent at explaining the science of tone so I'm hoping you can answer.
