I am slowly realizing that there is a good reason for so many different models from Victorinox, life is a constantly changing journey and as needs change, the models one prefers will change. Thank you.

I love seeing someone grow and learn what SAK is best for their EDC! Totally understand your reasoning and think it is a great choice for now. We never know what tomorrow might happen to change our mind. I've been rocking a small tinker for the last 3 months surprisingly has been more useful than the SAK 1 I actually like the looks and feel better. Bit me a couple of times so I changed and haven't looked back! Jeff Hope all is well health wise....

I like the Walker for the saw and not the bulk in the pocket like other saw models S o many times the saw has been so useful. There are days when you know no saw will be needed so there is the sportsman with the nail file and no bulk ...so very nice those small SAKs

I got a hiker for whittling outdoors (the key ring removed). The saw to cut the branch, and may be enlarge holes done by the reamer, the large blade for the rough cuts and the pen blade for the detailed work. I find that the width of the hiker is much better for day long whittling. Never had a sore spot in my hand by using it. The phillips screw driver is smooth and not felt uncomfortable when closed into the handle. The sharp belly of the can opener is a great scraper and I improved its sharpness with a wet stone. I learnt to love this model. Hope you´ll enjoy it aswell

If only Victorinox decided to eliminate the small blade (which besides being a backup is of little use) with a file, and the can opener (which is no longer useful, given that all the cans have a tab) with the package opener, perhaps you would have the perfect multipurpose knife.

another thing I've done with my camper, was to use awl to bore a hole in a long stick and using cordage and awl stuck in the hole, tie it to the pole with saw extended to reach higher branches in order to saw them without climbing tree or fetching a ladder.

Great video Mark. Yes I own the Tinker and have been seriously considering the Hiker as I use a saw as a carpenter and yard guy quite a bit. And yes I agree, it needs a nail file! Man, it’s like you’re reading my mind! Also, I wish they made a SAK with both the saw and file with a Phillips screwdriver that’s relatively slim. I don’t know, what do you think?

That's a great choice, the Hiker was the first SAK I bought of the 10 I now own. I wanted to replace the Victorinox GAK which I had owned and lost in the 90s and when I realised that these were no longer available, I opted for the 91mm SAK with a toolset closest to the current issue GAK, primarily for outdoors use. I now own another 4 with saws - Soldier 08, Farmer, Farmer X, and Swisschamp - plus a knockoff GAK. But nowadays for EDC I tend to carry a model with scissors, as of late my Climber with black plus scales and pocket clip is my favourite urban carry, together with a Knipex Cobra XS I can deal with most things on a day to day basis.

everybody should have a 58mm SAK on their keychain and you will always have a nailfile and scissors on you. The old Alox Soldier's from the 60's to 1993 are the best SAK EDC's and the most durable and sexy

The Mountaineer and Compact, I thought, were the best; however the Spartan has been what I've been carrying the most lately and really seems to meet my needs without all the bulk.

I wish there was a slimmer version of the field master I just want saw, scissors, main blade and the combination tool I feel it could be 3 layers if we take out the short blade and replace the bottle opener and can opener with the combo tool and in the back side I want the screwdriver and the hook with the file on the back and throw in plus scales

Hi Mark: For me, I still really like scissors but I also like the saw. A favorite knife of mine is the older 85mm Wenger “Handyman.” They float around ebay at reasonable prices. A great set of tools….. including a nail file. 👍👍

I really love 84mm Victorinox SAKs. I’ve got one called the “Walker” that has a saw…I’ve often thought this would be the perfect knife for backpacking if it had the corkscrew & awl on the back side.

Happy Saturday Mark, when it comes to a 84/85mm SAK with a saw I use either a 85mm EvoGrip S17, an 85mm Wenger Forester or a 85mm Swiss Buck Trekker. ATB Steve in Tel Aviv.
