The Oase Biosmart filters comes with 2 inlet holes, they are so you can attach the Oase UV unit directly to it and tighten both sides.

I used to have an oase filter. Smaller than that one. I hated it. The filter pads are hard to clean and disintegrated with in 2 seasons. I live in Canada so the pond is only running 6 months of the year. I would have to clean them out every 3 to 4 days. Eventually I built a bog filter and the water stays crystal clear! The bog filter needs virtually no maintenance. The plants do all the work. I would strongly advise anyone building a Koi pond to research on how to build a bog filter. I had built 3 ponds before trying a bog filter. Wish I had done it on the first pond.

Won’t support a properly stocked Koi pond and the level of feeding koi require unless it’s massive, something like the size of the pond it’s self and even then I suspect it would struggle!

@@ces69 Sorry, I should have been more detailed in my responce. You still need another way to remove the majority of fish waist and I agree if you have a fully stocked pond the bio load on the pond is huge. One thing I learned about keeping Koi is they are the dirtiest fish I have ever owned. Cheers.

I had an 8,000 gallon fully stocked koi pond with show fish. I did run a bubble bead filter on it but the absolute best filter was my bog filter I built. It wasn’t the size of the pond as you said it would need to be. It was 10’x10’ in size and looked beautiful with plants growing in it next to the pond. Bog filters are the way to go. You don’t have professionals promoting them because there is no money for them to make since it’s a DYI filter.

Do you carry out water tests for things like Ammonia and Nitrite on a regular basis, say weekly? I suspect that filter is running at the maximum of its capacity with the size and stocking level of your Koi! Probably a great filter for a “Garden” pond with goldfish and a few Koi but not something I’d recommend for a dedicated Koi pond with large Koi and the level of feeding they require! Clear water is no indication of a filters performance, high levels of Ammonia and Nitrite among other things are what do damage to to your Koi!
