Emerald trim urethane is my go to for doors and trim. Excellent finish, cover, and durability.

“I thought it’d be fun to set all my money on fire”😂 You are not kidding!! Lol. Ahhhh…. The joy of home ownership 😓 Everything looks great though and I dig your choice of funky color pairings! Since you’re my favorite KZitem painter and Emerald urethane advocate I figured I would ask you this…… I’ve recently jumped down the “interior design” rabbit hole🙄( trying to figure out how to go about re doing this place ) and have become more confused than ever. “They” all recommend using the exact same white trim color on your ceiling as well, of course just in flat. I personally like the brightest white ceiling I can get regardless of the undertones in white trim paint and I wouldn’t even know where to start since there is no “high hide white” flat paint. Most of them recommend SW pure white for just about every color in the SW catalog that I would like but it’s a little dingy to me and with the lower LRV I probably wouldn’t like it on the ceiling especially. Question is… (after my long winded novel) have you ever noticed Emerald ure in the stock high hide white “clashing” with warmer toned colors? It does have a cooler grayish hue to it but also a touch of warmth I think. I was a pro auto body painter for 27 years so I can’t help but pick colors apart lol🤦🏻♂️ It looks good with some of the colors I have picked out and the one purple room I did but I’m not sure about it with beiges and “greiges” and warmer colors like that. The more I watch on the subject the more I question everything, I need to burn my phone already lol. The only trim color I’ve had in this house for the past 20+ years has been Behr’s blinding ultra pure white and that’s probably part of the problem. It’s so pure and neutral white it works with every and anything, the trade off is, it’s so glaring the s*** glows in the dark! lol. It’s definitely overkill bright but what I’ve gotten used to. I’m sure I’m probably over thinking things as usual but wanted to get your take on it since I think you mostly use Emerald in the stock high hide? Anyway… good stuff as always brother and best of luck with the house and the little one! I remember when my kids were 2 🤦🏻♂️lol

I’ve never had an issue with emerald urethane in the high hide white clashing. Usually we use untinted Promar ceiling for our ceilings. If you want a brighter white, then you can try their premium ceiling paint. 7006 Extra White in super paint flat is also a decent option. As far as getting the ceiling paint and trim the same exact color / shade of white, it’s what we recommend but if you’re rocking base whites then it doesn’t really matter. The ceiling white is going to look significantly different from the trim simply due to the sheen and the position of the surface in the room. Carry on good sir 🫡

@@SuperVassarBrothers good point on the sheen difference and ceiling being on a different plane! The only room I’ve finished so far has the premium ceiling paint in it and I don’t see a difference between it and the trim color. The room doesn’t get a lot of natural light anyway though. The extra white/super paint is a good idea too! I’m going to look into that for when I get to my living room and kitchen since they have crown molding and both get a lot of light, I’m thinking the extra white ceilings may work better out there with the high hide?🤔…… to be continued lol Thanks as always for the reply!🙌🏻

I really enjoyed this Video! I too am a painting contractor but on a smaller scale (I’m a one man show) but stay very busy all the time. But the reason for my comments, my house was flooded from broken pipes and is all studs right now and as soon as I get the drywall hung I’ll be painting about 3000 sq Ft I too am a big fan of the Emerald Trim paint but was going to use Duration on the walls. After listening to you I think I’ll be using the Emerald! My Rep also told me that they’d cut me A deal on price for my personal use so I’ll be interested in comparing what they give it to me for. Lol. It sounds like your regular prices are similar to mine so I was glad to hear that. Anyways Thanks for the videos I totally enjoy them and watch as often as I can! Best Regards from Nashville Randy J

I’m sorry to hear about the flood! Water damage sucks. I hope you get a good deal from your rep as well. I was pleased with Emerald as you saw in the video. I’m sharing more pricing stuff cause I think it’s helpful for contractors and homeowners. At least we can start comparing a little. Anyways thanks for watching and good luck with your house!

Awesome video. Unrelated question: do you typically use a roller cover on consecutive days without washing it after the first day? Or do you discard it after a days’ use and use a new one the next day?

We wrap them in cling wrap or other forms of plastic and keep using them until we’re done with that specific paint. They can last about a week like that. Sometimes longer if you wrap them well.

What's your opinion of Kilz original oil based primer for use on Wall prior to paint? My son purchased a gallon of it to primer a room in his house. The room is currently painted a dark purple color, and he wants to paint it a light grey. He asked me about it and I just don't have any experience with it. Thanks 😊
@SuperVassarBrothers

Kilz primer is decent and it works well, however you don't need to use an oil based primer for a major color shift on walls. You can use a standard latex based interior primer. It's inexpensive and is far easier to work with than oil primer.

Hey Jeremy, I'm closing on a house pretty soon and am wanting to repaint the walls a different color. Just a couple question the the home is only 6 years old. Walls are currently a medium grey tint but, were wanting to paint them a lighter grey, will we need to put primer on the walls first? Also, the walls are textured do we need to go through extra steps before painting them? Thanks for all the content.
@SuperVassarBrothers
Жыл бұрын
If you use a decent paint and plan on doing 2 coats then you don't need to prime before hand. As far as the texturing goes, that's completely up to you. Assuming that you're going to keep the texture, then you don't have to do anything extra. If you're trying to get rid of the texture then that's a whole different process.

We usually stick with the stock whites. For emerald urethane it’s High Hide White. And yes, you can use the same paint on doors and kitchen cabinets. Emerald urethane and Advance from Benny Moore are commonly used in that way.
