Thomas, you've changed my life. I've always had issues with focus and procrastination, and I've watched almost every video on the internet for "how to stop procrastinating". Nothing helped, I was practically killing myself trying to do stuff, and then around half a year ago I found your channel. My grades have gone from C's to A*s, I'm waking up at 6:30 every morning, I'm healthier, I can concentrate better, and most importantly, I finally learnt how to discipline myself. Of course, I've still got a long way to go, but holy hell, without your video's I don't know where I would be. If you are reading this, understand that I am thankful beyond belief. You saved me, and I mean that literally. Thank you, Thomas, and may you go on to further inspire and teach more ❤️

Love it!! I made the mistake of the first place I moved into properly (after having temporary homes my whole life) being in a part of Manhattan that was super central, but too expensive to be practical to get anything more than a tiny 1 bedroom apartment. So my 'office' has been in the main part of the apartment (with living/dining room, kitchen, entry hall-way), on noisy 6th avenue. It is just the worst for working. But the lease runs out in a few months, and we're moving somewhere that I can simply get public transport into town, and I can have a closed off office. It will pretty much exactly resemble yours! Saved the video for reference later :D Thanks for sharing! Great inspiration and I can only imagine how much more efficient your day will be, and how happier a life it will lead to. Welcome home!
@Thomasfrank

Thanks Benny! The work environment was a huge consideration when I was looking at apartments - I found some cool areas right in the heart of downtown, but where I ended up was much more conducive to building a studio. Best of luck with the move in a few months! We'll have to get together next time I'm in NYC, which will probably be sooner than I think given that I've been there at least once a year since 2012 :)

@irishpolyglot

I'm with TF on this. Less distractions! When you take breaks, then you can/should enjoy the outside :) Besides - it's not like he has blinds - what he uses still lets in the daylight, it just filters it. My window lets the sunlight in at various times during the day such that it shines right on my computer screen. Moving my office isn't practical just to get around this. Since my office is in my home, I've found that when my wife is out for the day or weekend, then one of the first things I do is pull the curtains, and I'd like to leave it like that, but it would be so unfair to her while she's home, since that's essentially the entire house now closed off. When we move in a few months, I'm totally doing this in my office room :D
@Thomasfrank
7 жыл бұрын
The main reason I put up the curtain is to block out light when I'm filming - in my old studio, I didn't have a full length curtain, so anytime a cloud would pass in front of the sun when I was filming, the lighting in the room would change. I had to learn some tricks to hid those light changes when I'd make a cut in my footage, otherwise, they'd be really distracting. Honestly, if Amazon had had a large enough blackout curtain when I looked, I probably would have bought it. Basically I'm trying to treat this room like a true film studio. However, I do almost all my writing and research out at coffee shops, so I'm really only in this room when I'm filming, editing, or podcasting - and I'll be hiring an editor soon, so that'll cut that time even more. I'm definitely more of a sunlight guy :) Oh yeah - one other benefit of the curtain is that my computer doesn't fry; I didn't realize just how much more intense the sun would be here until I moved in, and if window's open all day, it heats up the computer case to some pretty scary levels...
@bashaaliaga9539
7 жыл бұрын
Ah i see now, makes sense to controll the lignting in the room so it's constant durring filming when you use your own lights. Thanks for the response!

Benny Lewis If it distracts you then definitely block the light... I just find that when I let natural light in, it makes me feel energized and motivated to work... but I see your point about it putting a glare on your computer screen, the same thing happens with my tv... to each his own
@irishpolyglot

Good job on hiring an editor soon! It's a game changer in terms of saving time while still making regular videos :) I've got one and rather than separating myself entirely from the process, since I actually DO enjoy editing, we work through proxy files. It's also meant that I can record the incredibly heavy 8K footage at the KZitem Space with the Epic-W RED camera, and he can still work off the files once I create the proxies.

Even if you shot your videos in 1080p, you can render it in 4k and upload it in 4k. Since youtube doesn't really output a true 4k stream anyway, at least they will shed a higher bandwidth for your videos if they detect a 4k resolution. I don't know if that information is interesting to you, but look it up. Cheers.
