It looks almost dreamlike. I think the controversy, if there is one, might stem from the fact this style is created through editing. Nevertheless, a great experiment.

Yeah, that’s what’s controversal but whatever, don’t care haha

It’s funny that “the edit” can be so controversial, considering printing in the darkroom is pretty much all about “the edit.” 😂 dodging, burning, multiple exposures, and so much more. The idea that film was “pure” is not realistic. Anyway, I really enjoy this style. It’s great to see you experimenting and exploring your own approach to work. The portraits you shared have a nice nod to Richard Avedon’s portrait work, but maybe with a bit more contrast overall. Some of your street photos are also reminiscent of Fan Ho’s work. He used high contrast and was also known for his darkroom work. In one of his famous photos, “The Approaching Shadow,” he added the dramatic shadow in the darkroom. So, the edit has always been a part of the creative process.

@@romanmeisenberg1224 thank you! I checked out Fan Ho’s work and yeah, it does look a bit like it. I’m glad you enjoy it! More will come!

High key zone system, such a classic style, nice you are bringing it back. What does “matte look” mean? You mean desaturated?

It’s a bit desaturated. And i bring the black and white down as well

this isn't unique at all? lol there are so many presets people have done that do this but i guess you're doing this for every photo and most people working with this style shift back and forth. this has the highschool art project vibe of opening up photoshop elements and over editing the heck out of a otherwise mundane image. @5:54 why does that lady crossing even matter? what story are you trying to tell here? I dislike this trope of just because someone timed a person walking by across a alley or a street gap it makes for a good photo. @5:13 why does this bloke matter and why does the composition feel so weirdly weighted and unbalanced? the subject is uninteresting and you're masking it with over editing, cool the tower but how does it relate to the subject and why is it being disrupted by the foreground objects? @4:09 why do all this work to save a mediocre image? the subject is a tiny spec that still feels like is being swallowed by the background. I think you need to learn to curate your work. @3:28 again why is a subject drinking dunkin donuts ice coffee warrant such over processing? There are few successes here like @3:35, @5:30 but then you see this dude @6:03 where again just drinking a big gulp with a puma snapback??? I can't see any expression coming from him or why this scene needs this dramatic editing. @6:39 you really need to pick your subjects @7:15 this is just a guy on his phone on a bench in the most uninteresting pose imaginable. why does this deserve this treatment let alone a gallery viewing? Cohesively what does this body of work want to communicate? There is no story here, you're just scatter shooting random people and not making a narrative or a rhyme. Sorry man
