Clear some of your timber then seed it heavy with fescue and your cows will love you forever. Cows love shade when it’s hot and they will have a great place to lay down. I cleared 5 acres in our timber leaving the big trees. There’s always 43 of the cows graze and resting plus there is a water source in there.

Great video Chris! Nice to your equipment testing. Sidenote: A friend that works for a power company in northern Sweden, she told me they use this brand only bigger models to clear power lines from undergrowth. When they started to use them eight years ago, it a was slow pace going through all them many miles of lines. But now it's so much faster than going at it with clearing saws(used to have groups of three running the cleaning saws. Plus the regrowth is slowed down quite a bit.

Wow. Between this and the Endeco on the Mini, look out brush. Watching the debris fly, I get why you told Geoff to keep his distance from you for safety. You've said several times you wanted to clean out the 'small stuff' down by the new pond & lots as well as clean out the area between your driveway pond and the old irrigation pond. This will do that. Congrats on the new piece of equipment. Not only a help around your farm but when it's too wet to move dirt, you can at least keep working by destroying brush. When you're mulching small trees if you drive over the tree and mulch from the top down it will tend to not throw them behind you. Also if you tilt the mulcher forward when backing up it will help to keep pieces from getting caught up under you and its a good idea to grease the drum everyday of use. Hope it works good for you.

He is in your area around Myrtle Beach and he may be able to give you a few pointers. Just a few things that I observed, door closed when backing that’s when most debris is thrown forward, on long limbs or trees place your track on top of them to keep them from being thrown rearward and being a safety hazard, and keep the knives sharp as often as possible . Have fun and stay safe.

I can see this being useful when you need to clear an access path to a pond/build site. It would also be good at taking care of smaller brush and trees, then your bring in the excavator to take care of the rest. Quite a bit faster than the mulching head you have for the mini-excavator too. From the sounds, I think the hydraulic pump on your TL12 is BARELY enough for that mulcher though.

Congrats on the new toy for your arsenal. A few things I have observed by watching @idigit4967 aka IDigIt4. He has his TMC- CANCELA Mulcher head figured out! He keeps the head rolled back. This keeps the uncut material under the head and prevents it from shooting out the back. He uses the lift arm to adjust height from the ground, not by rolling the head. Trees are kinda like onions, they peal off layers easier from the outside, than cross cutting them. Mulchers work more efficiently when cutting with the grain. There is a major learning curve, it's quite a bit different from using a bucket.

I’m impressed with how well this machine maintains head speed (by sound) have seen and been around a number of these mulchers and they don’t seem to maintain the drum speed nearly as well. Maybe you are using a lite touch but very impressive. Good operator allowing the machine to operate with in its abilities.
@2xKTfc
11 ай бұрын
The heavier the drum, the better it keeps its energy/speed when cutting the same "bite" that exceeds the power delivered by the engine/hydraulics. Of course, the tradeoff is more time needed to spin up the drum again after the RPM dropped. Keeping the RPMs well thus means a heavier drum - and a driver who knows not to stall it out all the time.

I seem to remember reading about those mulcher heads and sub-soiler units being used on smaller farms and such for field prep or revitalization. Basically a lot of limbs and pieces of unburned or charred up sticks, logs and stumps without rocks get laid out in fields. A mulcher comes along to turn them into so much chips and stuff then a subsoiler is used to turn the ground and put all those wood chips and ground up organics into the first twelve to eighteen inches of soil along with a broadcast of fertilizers. If a lot of wood chips and whatnot are not fully available, then standard fresh green compost gets spread out and worked in for the extra organics. Depending on the sub-soiler unit, it can even grind up rocks of a certain size and hardness like smaller sized limestone pieces about the size of a baseball get turned into a gravel and powder that gets lime into the soils. It's really an interesting thing that if done on a three or five year rotation get to turn not so great soil into some real top notch stuff.
