The Evora is honestly one of the best sports cars you can get. It’s not for badge snobs though and for me that about sums it up, because the issues that someone may have with the vehicle come down to being bothered about smaller details. There’s no better car at the price point IMO and you have to spend an awful lot more money to make it worthwhile for the driving experience

It's definitely not for badge whores or show boaters, like Peejay mentioned in his video! This car is about driving and enjoying every second of it. Could we want more, sure! Could lotus take this formula and do better, absolutely! But I'd argue even going up 100k more there are very very very few cars with the handling and feel of this car.

I’m on my 3rd Lotus, 2011 Elise R, 2013 Evora NA, 2017 Evora 400. I never had any of those problems you mentioned. Airbags don’t pop up like that for no reason in any car. If that was the case, the warranty would cover it immediately. It looks like the car was either in a front end collision or the bag was tampered with or the dash was removed. These cars are very reliable. I always used mine as a daily driver. My current 2017 Evora 400 manual transmission has been bullet proof and it has more miles than yours. Only oil changes so far. Perhaps you bought an abused car or one that was aggressively tracked and not well cared for. Don’t you have your car for sale on cars.com for $68,500?

Charlie Brown yup, I was highly considering the jump into a Ferrari or GT3. But I’ve changed my mind and haven’t taken it down yet. I bought my car with less than 4000 miles, and it was driven grandpa style around town. If anything I’ve abused it more than my previous owner. The airbag issue is common and not related to any sort of collision. The other issues also common as Greg from GRP and many other local lotus owners mentioned the same common issues. The motor has been mechanically sound, a few electrical gremlins and a new battery that needs to go in for failure to keep on trickler. Otherwise nothing to cry over but nice to inform others who may wonder. 😁

Boosted Trav Not my experience in driving these cars for 10 years. I buy them brand new and no one has giving me any trouble. I have the GRP pipe installed by my dealer so it would fit perfectly. There Are about 340 Evora 400 in the USA and most of them are working just fine. Sorry mate those are Not common issues with these cars. That is a fact. You are are unusually unlucky then.

@Charlie Brown I'm not trying to argue over what 's common and not common. I also, never stated that every single person would experience these issues. However, when I spoke to the Lotus USA warranty manager about my airbag issue he stated "this is a well-known issue with the Evora". Also, here is a link on the forums on the same topic www.lotustalk.com/threads/passenger-airbag-lifting-recover-or-replace.458426/. As for my other issues, there is a detailed blog post for each issue I mentioned in this video. If it was as unknown as you mentioned there wouldn't be so many readily available post on the topics I discussed on both Lotustalk and thelotusforums.

The airbag cover popping up is reasonably common the Evoras here in the UK, mine had it, apparently it’s a clip thing that with heat can cause it to raise slightly, it’s not a safety issue at all and it’s barely noticeable to be honest. The annoying thing is quite a big job to correct and a good deal of the dash has to cone out to sort it

Totally agree. 1. Looks: I’ve been a Porsche fan since I was 10 years old, but it doesn’t have as much of an aggressive shape as a wedge-shaped car. The Evora beats it in that aspect. 2. Sound: Again, I agree. I’ve looked at cars like the Focus RS, Elise, etc. but they don’t sound good to me with those little engines. I’m nowhere near the income required to comfortably afford an Evora 400, but just an example. 3. Fun to drive: Yup! I don’t have as much fun in most muscle cars. They’re fucking fast but man they’re just moving bricks most of the time. Disclaimer: I like all the cars mentioned above, but they are deciding factors for me and me alone. I had a Mustang with a truck engine, a Subaru WRX, and a Camaro SS. So don’t get too offended

Great points and completely agree! I too have a love for a lot of cars but not particularly an over the top fanboy! I love Porsche cars too, especially GT3s and would always like to add one to the stable eventually. Lotus doesn't have the best marketing, or dealership stability, and despite some of the little nuisances is are fantastic cars! I always tell people if Lotus can make a car on par with Porsche with 10% of the budget they have I couldn't imagine what they could make with the full funding to develop a sports car!

How do you like this auto trans compared to the bmw dct? Very curious to hear your opinion on the lotus trans
@boostedtrav

Not better than my DCT in my M3. But that was to be expected. It's a good auto but it isn't anything fancy. This version of it is much better than the previous S1 Evora and would be similar to say a Zf auto.

Yea the euro bumper is a perfect blend of the S1 and S2, and boy is it not cheap to import. It also is a shame we are still dealing with this damn airbag issue. But it could be worse.

@@gregorysmall3378 Whatever Evoras that are still for sale are the last of them. The Evora production has ended. I do not know what that will do to the value of the cars. But, as of right now I could sell my car for the same money or 1-3k less than what I paid for it over 2 years ago. So it's done pretty well in the market.

The new Evora GT from a HP/TQ standpoint is about the same as my car. To make them quicker Komotec and few others offer a solid tune to bump the power 30-75 hp which is definitely something on my future list of things to do. The GT has better aero with the EU GT430/410 bumper and front wheel arch vents and nicer interior options. I do wan't to drive one to see if it noticeably more stable at the limit.

My man I love your honesty in reviewing your 400. But if I am going to drop that kind of coin on a 2020 car, those issues you mention are massive deal breakers for me. Fit and finish is paramount when spending that kind of money for a car. And while Caymans and 911s may be “common”, NO WAY Porsche would allow these kinds of flaws in their cars-NO WAY.
@boostedtrav
4 жыл бұрын
They are an annoyance but I hear the fit and finish on the GTs is a lot better! I haven't spent much time in a GT yet but from what I've seen in pictures they have upgraded the materials yet again. Porsche has flaws just like my BMW M3 does, they are just less visible to the eye.

Absolytly agree with you. Front bumper on 400 is awful. I hate it. its mutch beter on 1st models but a bit dayted. And bumper or gt sport 410 or 430 is mutch beter. And back window carbon shroud with out dedecated spoiler is looking whay beter. But im shore it makes visibility evan vors.
