When I realize I'm not using something or it is really past the best by date I put it in a basket in the corner of my kitchen. I look at the basket every week and commit to using up at least one item but sometimes I manage a few at a time. I also have a list printed that I hanging on the inside of the cupboard door listing everything on each shelf so that I can be reminded of what I have and also to help others who use my kitchen find things.

Now in our 70’s we converted our 3rd bedroom into a pantry. We started this just before the pandemic hit. I can’t imagine having to go up and down stairs carrying supplies now…lol Thank you for all your videos. Because of you, we learned how to can food, grind our own flour and make sourdough starter for the bread.

In your deep bakery cabinet you could store your long term storage items or equipment that you may use only once a year such as an apple corer/peeler. Or consider cutting the wall of the adjacent cabinet sides between the cabinets so that you could reach that space from the left. Beautiful pantry.

I am so grateful to not have to do stairs for my pantry anymore. My breezeway/utility room doubles as a pantry. And I too agree that sell by and best by are suggesting that the grocery store needs to sell it, and order more. I try to rotate through things within 2-4 years. But that is just part of my pantry shelf maintenance. I hate waste, and I hear generations of German heritage yelling at me, so little to no waste, and composte before trash can. For 2 of us we only fill 1 tall kitchen can bag with trash every 4-6 weeks. We recycle a tote or 2 full monthly. And compost is every other day minimum(We use 2 tall folgers containers for composte).

It looks like your baking pantry needs to trade places with the stuff you said you don't reach for much. It's a wider space and holds more things maybe? I never really had a pantry for baking stuff until we moved to this house. It didn't have a pantry, but I had an armoire passed down to me that we didn't want to haul upstairs. So, it's the baking pantry (except one drawer is the grandkids' snacks and favorite things they know they can go to ). I absolutely love it & have some modular plastic bins that have ingredients for frosting or cookies or spices we only use for baking like cream of tartar etc. Anyway, it has worked out really well - just a couple of steps away from the kitchen.
