Been getting some questions on why I left crypto. Not the point of this video but here you go... I just feel the ecosystem is too overhyped, not enough solid actual use cases that make sense and rampant with speculation and sketchy projects. Everyone has to create a token. I mean how would it be if each grocery store had it's own currency and you had to exchange currency to buy stuff and then try to figure out which store had a better deal. Eventually some actual companies will come out of this with good ideas, and when that happens, I'll see.I also want to see some more accountability. Some people think that because a contract is written solidly that a system is safe. Problem is there is usually a UI and server in between that can be buggy. If something glitches you can lose money irreversibly and there's not a lot of accountability for those who wrote buggy code. This was one of my concerns going into it, then it actually happened to me. I personally lost several thousand dollars in a similar scenario. The team tried to blame it on me, though I used their own UI. It could have been avoided with simple validation on their end, which obviously didn't exist. It was an intermittent bug because other transaction went through fine, but I was not the only one that had this happen based on the records. There was no way to recover the money. Right now it's mostly speculators in the space. For true mainstream adoption, you can't have that happening. Normal folks won't accept that. Nor will they accept having to do 98 confirmations on a hardware wallet for a single transaction. That happened to me once. Figuring out taxes is still painful too and the decentralized argument is somewhat half baked since there are so many centralized bottlenecks in the systems. Some people will continue to make a ton of money speculating in the space, but right now I'm back to investing things where it's easier to come to valuations grounded in business fundamentals. Once things mature some more, I'll consider it again. But that's probably a couple years out. A bit long winded, but that's where I'm at.

@@jamescross Pretty much all the opposite of yours :) I work with Angular and Php (but I draw the line at WordPress :) ), I like Star Trek and I use Cannon :) But similarly to you I do love photography and videography, KZitem (and education I guess?), and tech in general. I have few small wood working projects, but figured out that it does require a lot of physical space, which I lack right now. Small shop for meditation is available though, but the time not so much. Love the setup btw, I am moving soon, so stealing some ideas from you :)

@@jamescross use RP, smaller (cheaper) brother of the R. I've been using Canon for long time, so have a lot of lenses, and kinda stuck with it. I should probably consider Sony, it is superior in every sense when it comes to video at least. But... finding a bunch of excuses not to switch yet :D Are you happy with Sony, other then the low light capabilities?
@jamescross

@@ApplicableProgramming I really like the a7siii. it's been pleasant to use like the eos r was. I tried the a7c which did well from a video perspective, but the lack of dials really got annoying. I purchased the a7siii cameras before the atem mini so other than for broll, the cameras are a little overkill because the atem only accepts 1080. They make a 4k version, but it was really expensive. I still like shooting 4k broll though. The eos r was no slouch though and it was really comfortable in the hand. So, I probably could have done fine with the eos r now that I have 2 lights in the studio.

All the bigger cities can be expensive. Seattle is probably lower than the others. New York, NY the highest unless you have a long commute or live in a not so nice area. All three of those would be fun single. If you want to be closer to mountains, go to Seattle.

@@jamescross I appreciate your thorough write up. These are several of the same conclusions I'm coming to over such a short amount of time. It unfortunately needs regulation which goes against what was intended. I had my own blunders but nothing like yours. I'm sorry you all lost all that hard earned money, gosh. There's certainly growing pains. I was first ushered in a week before The Tweet last May. Scared shitless while on vacation of all times. Learned very quickly after that. Then the Vault feature broke on my Coinbase account. And they kept sending unrelated automated responses and closing the ticket...which means we're completely on our own in this. I'm waiting for portfolio recovery atm to get out. But the industry needs a bit more maturing before I can take it seriously again. I see potential but now is kind of a shitshow. yeah, not really a gamer. it kinda comes down to what you want to build. in general your specs are probably overkill for most software development so you should be more than fine with what you have especially if you use it for gaming too. but if your interest is ios development then mac would be better. Or if .net then you are in a better spot. imo, stick with that you have until you know why you need something different. even macbooks are overspec'd for a lot of programming tasks.

@@jamescross I actually do document review, so I need a monitor that can fit 2 app 'windows' per screen. 15.6 is too small (only around 25 chrome tabs per window per screen, 17" can fit around 40+). I'm also doing international travel (airbnb, so anywhere from 1 week to 6 months). So it has to be ultra portable - so I think the best system would be 13inch (microbezzle + 2in1) for portability, connected to a 17 inch or (@ home) larger monitor. And then run a lilputing home PC (mini Mac) connected to the screen for a 'home' PC (with extra HD & running remote desktop). Carrying around 2 laptops is too annoying while traveling. 13 2in1 could operate as a tablet as well. You could get 3:2 display for coding. A 13inch with portable 17.3 would allow you to have up to 3 'windows'. Perhaps a 8" inch tablet (with casting to 17.3 or larger screen) for entertainment/movies/music Siri tablet experience? (apple ipad mini). I find 14' laptop not to be that comfortable tbh - it's too small to run 2 windows, but productivity is not that enhanced compared to a 13inch laptop.
