Not to lay it on too thick, but there are those in the guitar community that love to hate Ovations. There are also those that say "you must have 00, 000 or OM to play finger style; and a dread for flat picking" Nonsense... I flat-picked in a Bluegrass band, strummed and finger-picked folk and country solo etc., etc., on my Custom Balladeer and it worked for ALL of them! And yes, since then I've owned Martin's, Gibson's Larrivee's and Guild's and guess what... no matter the body shape and size they all worked too! BUT, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that Ovation. It had a character that others just don't possess.

The best kind of guitar to play any particular type of music is the guitar you’ve got right now.

I bought a Ovation just like the one you have in the video back in the 70's for $125 in Long Beach, Ca. It was a great guitar with a great sound.

The charm of an Ovation is that its natural acoustic tone is very similar to what a plugged in acoustic-electric sounds like, along with its acoustic projection and natural reverb. Very different from traditional acoustics, but you know what you’re getting with the same sound plugged in or amplified.

@@cmroutlaw I want to put an original one in that came with the with the electric version , I'm thinking eBay or reverb , I'm in no hurry myself cause it's gonna basically be used at home only , I had the same mod years ago with the electronics and lost it in a trade for a new Alvarez silver anniversary model from Korea , guess it made its way back to me minus the electronics lol !

I have a soft spot for Ovation guitars. And have always wanted one. I wish you would have recorded it without any tweaks though, like reverb and so on. I would have loved to hear it straight through a mic, at about the 12th fret, and into the recording software. When I review an acoustic guitar, I use a quality mic plugged into my PreSonus and then the PreSonus (either one mic on a stereo splitter cable or with 2 separate mics and jacks) is connected to my laptop via USB. I then use my favorite recording software, like Audacity, with no add ons or EQ changes at all. That way people can hear the guitar and not my software. I'm not saying you did it wrong... Not at all. Everybody does things differently and that's what makes KZitem so good. I'm just posting how I like to record acoustic guitars.

I have a 1975 that i purchased new...it was the first guitar that i bought myself after getting a job and making money..Still have it today along with 11 other guitars. I was wondering what is the nut width of your Ovation. It looks wider than mine , which is 1 9/16 ths approximately ?

My grandpa gave me this same guitar for christmas last year and the bridge is lifting up what should I do to fix it? (there is basically nobody willing to work on the guitar because of how old and "rare" it is and it is e-acoustic)
@cmroutlaw

Wow that is awesome, where abouts do you live? I can recommend some shops in Ontario Canada but I would take it to a Luither. Solo Music located in Woodbridge ontario has fixed all my guitars and helped me out with vintage guitars and super budget friendly. I hate when stores or someone tell me it's unfixable because everything is fixable in a way just comes down to "is it worth it" because of how much it will cost to fix it. I personally think these guitars will shoot up in value one of these days, so I would definitely say it's worth it to restore it and then make sure to keep it at proper humidity levels 😊

It's true for some folks that the bowls will slide off easy when sitting down, my friends dad has a new version of the 12 string I cant sit down with it but this one fits like a glove, I can get away without using a strap and it won't slide off, I guess it depends on which bowl it is
@erickleefeld4883

You need to always wear a strap when playing an Ovation, sitting down as well as standing. This isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker, as the final result is actually very comfortable and ergonomic to play, but it’s just a basic condition to know going in.
