I’m really glad to see so many people sharing their opinions. No matter the animals we keep, or the numbers, I’m proud to know PetTubers who truly love and care for their animals, like you and Maddie do. I love the passion you both have for your breeding projects, and I LOVE how much emphasis you’ve put on great animal care. What you keep, and in how many numbers will always be a source of debate for people when shared online, but I know your care is exquisite, and I know your dedication to being a responsible KZitemr is also top notch. No matter what, we *should* be aware that we do have influencer, but as with all other content on KZitem, we don’t make decisions for others. Everyone should aim to keep only what they can afford to, whether that’s 1 animal or more.

👏👏👏 animal keeping is not a “one size fits all” hobby. You can have 3 pets and neglect them, or 100 pets and take care of them wonderfully. Support creators that take proper care of their animals, regardless of if that is 1 pet or 100+ pets.
@maddielubby

I totally agree! My sis had 3 pets and she couldn't take proper care of any of them. I have 20+ pets (mostly adopted and I adopted 1 of my sis's 3 pets aka the most neglected 1, the other 2 given to my uncle) and I can proudly say that I take good care of all my pets. Their enclosures might just be a little bigger than "minimum" required size (my house is pretty small) but at least they are surely all healthy, active and happy. Ppl should know what's their limits. If you can't take good care of an animal till their last day on Earth, cos you're overwhelmed and whatsoever reasons that you need to rehome them later, then you should not keep pets. If you can't even take care of yourself, then you should never never never keep any other animal. I only support creators that really take care of their pets not just for the sake of creating videos to get likes or views then throw away or rehome their once called pets. Imo, quantity wasn't that important. What's important is quality. Oh I'm not a pet hoarder coz I've 20+ pets, most of my pets are rescued. Ive stopped adopting any coz I know my limits on how many can I take care of (& space limits) and I don't want rescue or adopt more and later on I'm overwhelmed (lol) and I can't give my best to my pets. And ppl, please adopt don't buy. And and, before you adopt/buy any animals, be sure you have done your "homework" & have enough $ standby aside in case of emergency.

yeah... i kinda feel like everyone took this way too personally. like how tyler popped off about the term 'animal hoarding' being used, at all in her video. hoarding runs in my family, so im really sensitive about that term too. but what she said wasnt wrong or offensive at all. there are a lot of channels on here who are lowkey encouraging animal hoarding, and others who genuinely are hoarding animals. you dont have to be diagnosed to have a disorder and as someone whos watched a fair bit of commentary content, i didnt feel like she was calling anyone out specifically with those thumbnails either. those are just the thumbnails that get the most clicks, which pettubers are well aware of, hence why they put "60+ animals!!!!" in their titles. regardless of how good your care is, the truth is that the vast majority of people cannot and/or will not take proper care of that many animals... most people barely care for the one and only pet they have. and by making videos that emphasize a large number of animals, you are inevitably going to encourage someone to buy another animal, and maybe another... and maybe another. but they take that risk, and even emphasize it in the titles for views. dont get me wrong, i love the idea of pettube. but as long as these people are filming themelves buying new animals, bragging about the numbers in their titles, and showing off exotic species that are far more complicated to care for than you could ever explain in a video, i cant reallly say that 'callout' video is wrong

People love taking things personally. What gets views are large numbers of animals, that makes people get large numbers of animals even when they can't care for them and the people with smaller collections are ignored. The average person cannot care for these numbers of animals yet these videos push those ideas, especially when most of the audience of these videos are kids and teens. No one was calling out any of the people in the thumb nails and we all know who cares for their animals and who don't. It's all blatantly obvious but it flew over their heads. Anyone who felt attacked obviously are questioning their choices. If it didn't apply to them there is no reason to feel called out.

@@somedude172 i mostly agree with you but i think the issue is that even if all my animal videos never existed, people would still see animals people own and still get them and still not care for them, the issue isnt videos of this type but the fact that getting animals without doing research and improper care of animals (for example betta's and hamsters and working breed dogs) is so normalized to add, yes, making these kinds of videos might encourage people to get another animal and another animal, but a video only talking about one animal can do the same, same with seeing an animal at a friends house, etc, i mean hell when i was young i was convinced i needed a kinkajou just cause i saw one at an animal rescue, irresponsible pet owners will continue to own irresponsibly even if all of my animals videos just stop existing, and have existed for long before these type of videos did (ps sorry if i repeated myself at all LOL, im bad at typing long messages)

Yeah, I thought it was an odd point for her to make against the PetTube community. Having many pets and showing them to others doesn’t automatically encourage others to need many pets. The whole point of PetTube is to document everyone’s companions and share good information about them and their care, breeding, etc. As someone who did have many animals before my disability started, I always enjoyed the PetTube community, and there are many responsible PetTubers out there (the majority). I never had gotten the impression that PetTubers are encouraging what she was mentioning in her video. Not being able to have many animals now because of my disability’s symptoms, it’s fun to watch them all, as I can still enjoy something I can no longer do. If I didn’t have PetTubers to watch that document what they do, I’d likely be struggling a lot more to cope with my condition (as it is severally limiting and I have given a lot up). If anything, they help reinforce that pets are a large commitment, and that we should never get over our heads, as we are jeopardizing both the animals and our own well-being.

She threw away an opportunity to point out true issues in a community like animal hoarding, negligence, abuse, and overcrowding by using responsible ‘pettubers’ as examples. This is a huge problem, but not with Tyler and those like him who keep their animals in amazing setups with enrichment for days. I wish she could have explained these issues without dragging random people into it who have nothing to do with the problem and purposely educate about the same issues. It just frustrates me. Anyone can neglect an animal whether is 1 or 300. Let’s start harping on the channels that actually neglect their animals, instead of pointing out number as if it means anything towards husbandry. Ugh. Just common sense y’all. Please use your common sense 😭😬

Jennie had some good points in her video but Tyler is absolutely right in the points he pointed out . A person can have a single pet and neglect it , while someone else can have 100 odd pets and yet give them the life they deserve ! As some who has been following Tyler for a very long time now , I do know that he really loves his pets and it’s not about the views , which I truly appreciate and like Tyler mentioned , when we see thumbnails that say 50+ or 100+ pets , we tend to watch those videos because we know that we’ll most probably never have that many pets ever !

I've recently gotten to a place where I can have a variety of pets. Channels like yours, and the others mentioned, were actually a good influence for me. Because of channels like yours, the two lizards I already had (being kept with outdated information) received better enclosures, food, setups, etc. Once I improved their care, I started adding to my reptile family. I watched Jennie’s video, and generally enjoy her videos. I also subscribe and enjoy watching your, and most of the other “pettubers” identified in her video. I left that video thinking she was projecting what is best for her onto everyone else. She did just downsize her “collection” because she was overwhelmed. I can see how she would see others’ videos and judge them as being too many animals-but seemed to be too many animals for her, not the creator she was talking about. I watch channels that I can learn from, and who advocate for the well being of the animals. It’s almost as though she expects the viewers to be extremely dumb? Or have the impulse control of a three year old. Many viewers of channels much like yours are already extremely educated in animal care, and simply watch for the enjoyment of seeing animals. I really just felt as though the viewers of ‘pettube’ were been spoken about as though we were simply toddlers, who could only be impressed by high numbers and easily persuaded to go and purchase by simply seeing an animal. Most people won’t do that, sure there’s the dumb few, but as I said most people who watch videos titled ‘Meet my pets (50+)’ are interested in seeing the animals, not shopping for their next pet. It’s not a bad thing that I’m generally more interested in youtubers who have a more diverse range and higher numbers, I’d only watch if they were all properly taken care of and the youtuber would only get money if the people who were viewing the video were happy with the care. It’s a 50/50 partner ship, interested viewers watching well taken after animals. I don’t see the issue.

How I see it, having so many animals truly sounds like a dream, but an unrealistic dream for many (including myself), and that’s why it’s so enjoyable to watch videos of people who have a lot of pets (and are also educative and knowledgeable)! It’s like watching a family with 10 children - I bet most people wouldn’t want that many children, but it’s so interesting to see how others manage. That doesn’t inspire others to get 10 kids too. It only inspires the ones that truly want it - but they would’ve wanted it anyway, with or without that “influence”! Also, having a lot of pets isn’t something that happens at once. You notice soon enough when you have enough pets for yourself to handle. I have 2 birds. I always imagined having 5 birds, 1 cat, 1 chameleon, rats, etc etc. But rn these birds are such a handful already, so I’m definitely not getting a new pet anytime soon. It’s stupid to get more pets than you’re able to handle, and I don’t think many people will go that far that easily... having 1 pet that you truly love is stressful enough (I personally always worry about their well-being so yeah). It takes a certain person to have a lot of animals, people like you!

I agree 100% with you, Tyler. I've been watching you and a lot of other "PetTubers" for years since I started keeping snakes back in 2015. I only have 2 because it's all I have the room and money for currently, and I've always watched you and other "50+ PETS!" people and just been in awe by how you fit that many animals into your daily life, how you keep track of who needs what. I have NEVER thought, "I need to get all those pets right now." Maybe years in the future when I am stable and have the ideal lifestyle/job for keeping more, but I've always been one to educate friends on why they shouldn't get pets like chameleons, iguanas, and other more difficult/high maintenance species because I personally believe people should start easy with a cornsnake or leopard gecko before they start getting into the trickier species. Education is so important in this hobby and I think your channel (along with many others like the ones mentioned in this video) does a great job at that, which is why I keep watching these videos! I want to know how people manage so many animals at a time without feeling overwhelmed or stressed, so that if I ever get to a point in my life where I can responsibly keep a "collection," I have a great reference for time/money management. It does very much feel like you and those other KZitemrs are being directly called out and it really isn't fair at all to say that you're not giving your animals the care they need and deserve just because you have a lot. I've seen people (some of my own friends) impulse buy pets and exotics as a coping mechanism and I've seen their downfall as pet owners (rehoming, animals getting sick and/or dying unexpectedly), and what you have going on is far from that. Also what isn't being mention is: a lot of these channels, like you and Maddie, Snake Discovery, etc. aren't taking care of your animals entirely by yourself. I imagine you and the KZitemrs with roommates/partners/etc. probably share the work in many ways too, which would make it even easier to care for a larger number of animals. Not everyone has the same situation going on so it's very unfair to make a blanket statement like that.

I think you missed her point. If someone criticizes say, Disney for contributing to dog abandonment they are not saying that this company neglects dogs or that they support or promote animal neglect. a video that causes you to feel defensive instead of wanting to contribute to the conversation is typically a video that, while well-intended (presumably), is not hitting the mark imo. i think what jennie should've done is focus on herself and used her own thumbnails/make spoofs of the thumbnails/titles instead of using those from years ago. or just not using thumbnails at all. using steff j's videos when she's stated endlessly that she's a rescuer, that if you don't have time for animals to please not get them. it always sounds like a lot of animals, bc it is, but steff knows what she's doing. most of the creators jennie chose to show know what they're doing, like you, like snake discovery. king of diy's videos do seem to fall into what she's stating, but really he's educating his viewers on what it's like to properly care for large fish, community tanks, and specifically care for [type of fish] (though i don't know how to feel about the purchasing and returning thing, i've also not seen how he rehomes/returns, so it's unfair to judge). the way the information was presented...seemed almost gossipy, in that it made me (and seemingly, a lot of other viewers) want to whisper shadily in the comments about this creator and that creator, instead of actually discussing what was brought up. idk, big presumption from me incoming, but it seems like she wanted to make a splash with this video, regardless of who it could hurt, while hiding behind the "i'm not calling anyone specifically out" disclaimer. but hey, it is bringing up good points from you as well though, so it's not exactly a failure of a conversation starter, but it should've been done with more care towards the creators she used.

Posting a Snake Discovery thumbnail completely invalidates her entire point for me. Like they have a zoo. Emily is an educator, and they have some of the best husbandry out there.

Gosh, I just watched her video and I'm hecking annoyed. My family used to have a wide variety of pets too. We cared about every single one of them and their wellbeing. If we didn't have the time to give them the attention they deserved, we did our research and found a great home for them. I had an albino corn snake and I got kind of busy with school and didn't spend much time with her so I found a new home for her with someone I know. Her new enclosure setup and attention she's getting is phenomenal, and honestly if I never picked her up from our local rehoming pet store, she may have been euthanized. She has a scar under her chin from a gash she got when she escaped her enclosure at the pet store. So really, I see nothing wrong with owning any number of pets as long as you can take care of them properly, which you 100% do. She also used some of Snake Discovery's thumbnails which is beyond ridiculous to me. Emily owns a reptile zoo that they've spent at least 2 years building, setting up enclosures and preparing all of the necessities for the animals she's going to be housing. She cares deeply for every animal she's ever owned and helps to spread awareness about animal abuse like the Minnesota turtle races every chance she gets. To say that someone like her or you needs to stop what you're doing just because she couldn't handle a large volume of pets is disgusting. Her whole video was 'I couldn't take care of that many pets so I had to downsize and everyone else should too because it would make me feel less bad about the fact that I can't do it'. Just gross.

She added a thumbnail from Fish for Thought. Why? His content is mostly about responsible fish keeping and educating people about pet fish abuse (by calling out aquarium neglect and informing people about fish needs). It's so surprising to see him as an example here since he doesn't even show off his collection often.

after watching Jennie’s video and seeing who’s thumbnails she included, I was waiting for someone to make a response. Pettube introduced me to crested geckos in 2017 and I just recently got one in February and she’s now my ESA, she brings me so much joy and I’m so happy all of these wonderful creators introduced me to the species and helped in my research about getting one! I also know I would not be capable of caring for 50+ animals, I’m content and capable of caring for the 6 I have!

Some KZitemrs foster like Stephanie moratto so that’s hurtful, she is making a big difference! Plus never mentioned the fact that Tyler has a breeding business plus most of these youtubers rescue!!

There is an issue in the pet tube community. Too bad she squandered the opportunity to spread awareness. She used her platform to attack people. Nasty.

6:00 I agree I have OCD and see a therapist. This is a very big issue, besides some people think a lot of disorders are “normal”. Because their not. It can be a very big problem that people deal with. It pisses me off when someone says “ o yeah I have OCD so sorry, I need to fix these napkins” or something like that. It’s kinda mean, to me it’s taunting.

I have OCD as well, (and PTSD) and part of the reason I get so defensive about the blanket “hoarding” term is this exact reason. It’s so belittling to hear someone using your mental illness as a “quirk” almost for what they’re going through.

I think its obvious you guys take amazing care of your animals! But I think her points still stand with creators like Taylor Nicole Dean. Its really sad seeing her deteriorate and her level of care follow suit while neglecting to rehome to a manageable size.

Well said, I’m so glad someone finally responded to her video. It needed to happen and especially It needs to be a conversation not just grabbing thumbnails from others in the community. Have a discussion and talk with your colleagues before judging them.

As someone who loves animals obsessively these videos are awesome! And saves me a ton of time going around searching all these different species trying to find good footage. Content like yours actually keeps me from getting a million pets, which I wanted before I ever saw a single pettuber, it scratches my itch, so I don’t agree with her. Period.

Well, personally I appreciate you, Maddie, Emzotic. I have a few selective pets, and from your channels I've also realized some would not suit my lifestyle or budget- example tortoise and ferrets. I love these creatures but I see what they require and would fall short. Thank you guys.

I think using certain thumbnails was not to call out specific youtubers, just to bring awareness to people who feel the need to purchase xy amount of animals while taking those youtubers as an inspiration. Only because that one person can take care of 100+ animals, doesn’t mean everyone can. And those thumbnails may lead to false assumptions about keeping a lot of animals in general.

Ugh I couldn’t even finish watching her video I was so enraged by her stance. And the fact that she didn’t even ask permission to “call you out” by using your thumbnail. It’s scummy. It’s an opinion but it’s scummy to me. She’s had way too many animals before and didn’t necessarily admit that in the past when all of a sudden she would just not have them anymore… she was rehoming them because she couldn’t handle as many anymore. And that’s fine. But then she went and got more of the same animals later. So 🤷♀️ what do you mean you can’t care for so many when you literally just replaced them later?!

Sorry I keep commenting on my own comment but it just really irks me. I used to love her content but this “holier than thou” stance she’s taken really really bugs me. She’s been that person incapable of handling what animals she’s had, and then thoughtfully rehomed them (good choice) and then gotten more of the same animals and then repeated the process. She might deny that but before she relocated I saw her fricking rehoming ads at my local pet store. So…like it’s fine to have an opinion. It’s great to know when you’re in over your head and rectify the situation. But to move cross country and repeat the situation, and then stand on a soap box and call out “animal hoarding” which isn’t what the people she screenshotted are doing- it’s scummy. I’m not sure if I’ll stay subscribed to her tbh. I think she’s digging for some clout - she disappeared off KZitem without much explanation two years ago when she was going on her rehoming frenzies and I think she’s trying to clickbait some views back. 🙄 ok rant over. Tyler. Maddie. Emma. Everyone else I know and sub to in those heinous screenshots- you’re great. You’re not hoarders. You’re not in over your heads. You’re not using your animals for views. You don’t need me to tell you that. The point she tried to make flopped hard.

A lot of pet tubers who were in that video thumbnails were really good pet caregivers and I think it’s sad that she stopped having a lot of animals cause she couldn’t handle it so she now thinks other people can’t and some of the pet tubers who are literally building aquariums or zoos she had the king of dyi on there cause he has a lot of fish but mainly it’s taking her own personal experiences and acting like every one fits in the same box

I definitely think that there is a huge difference between people who have a large amount of animals and take amazing care of them and people who have a large amount of animals take horrible care of them. You can have 1 animal and neglect them, and you can have 200 animals and take incredible care of them. I have a bearded dragon, leopard gecko, 3 mourning geckos, a madigascar hissing cockroach, an ivory milipede, 2 super worm colonies, 2 meal worm colonies, and 4 isopod colonies and all of them have really good care and I know people who have one red ear slider or one dog or one rabbit and take horrible care of them. I really just depends on the person. I think some of her points were valid, but it would have been better if she solely talked about her experience with being overwhelmed with that many animals and not take it out on other amazing keepers.

Gold fish girls video is just a straight up KZitemr attack video. It’s when a KZitemr attacks another KZitemr because the KZitem algorithm promotes drama because it drives views. You can’t take a moral stance by doing an immoral thing. Her video is just drama for views and it hurts the spread of legit pet care info on the web.

I will say as someone new to the reptile side of animal loving and this life style I was very cautious of dipping my toes into the water because a lot of people who own reptiles don't take care of them they way they deserve to be taken care of and I was ashamed to be a part of that community. Everyone always thinks it's super easy to have a snake or whatever so they continue to get multiple animals when they can honestly probably barely afford to properly take care of one animal. So when I do see videos where people are constantly talking about how they have 100+ animals (and they do one of these videos every year and barely any of the animals from the year before are even in it) and they aren't breeders.....it definitely upsets me. I love seeing the beautiful animals but I love seeing them grow and age even more than I do seeing a new one every month.

This is such a great video. I am happy you have responded and put your thoughts out there. I have wanted more animals for a long time. Because of KZitemrs like you, emzotic, and others like StephJ I have educated myself. I have learned so much about pet care. I waited to buy a large house with plenty of room first. It’s only have years of research that I am now working towards adding ferrets to my family. Because of some of you all, I now understand that someone needs to have proper enclosures and knowledge before taking that next step. Thank you🙏
