My grandpa built me a 22 string Paraguayan harp. I love it! I actually have the red strings as c and the blue strings as f so I could play Celtic music. To my knowledge, Barrios (known as the iconic Paraguayan classical guitar composer) played Paraguayan harp. That means he most likely played with right hand nails and no left hand nails. I have nails on my right hand for guitar playing.

Hi Chiara!! I'm Mexican, therefore super familiar with the Latin American folk harp world (that let me tell you, is a whoooole entity by itself in the harp universe), specially with the repertoire, which many of us from México to Argentina ( perhaps not so in Brazil nor the islands) grew up with. The CBM on your harp stands for Cristino Báez Monges, a Paraguayan harpist and composer, very popular among the older generation. You can watch him here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1Khqk5Noh5SKmJg His baby looks pretty much like yours, maybe even it's the same one, who knows!!!!

I replaced a broken string by simply going down to the music store and buying a guitar string of the same size. Find a mechanic with an accurate caliper and measure the thickness of any string that you'd like replaced. Then just order a clear string in whatever length you want. Use a permanent marker to color them as needed. I've done it. And it works just fine.

The harp must be tuned to F major, with the red strings being an F and the blue strings a C. The Paraguayan harp is typically played using fingernails, which gives it a brilliant and resonant sound. 👼🎶🤟

That's funny we're all different. I hate the soft feeling, also in other kind of harps. The harder, the better! Yes levers are a big problem, but I think experts can play semitones by bending the string or using a metal piece. I think Lincoln Almada does it.

If I were to recommend you a classic tune from the beloved paraguayan repertoire, here's a very popular one and my personal favorite, called "El pájaro chogüí" (The chogüí bird) kzitem.info/news/bejne/u5Bjy6WZhnqLhoo La letra también es muy linda y como el italiano se parece mucho al español, creo que la entenderás fácilmente.

Muchas gracias! Wow such polyrhythm in this pájaro! Fantastic. I love the use of the minor, is it done by pressing the string with the left hand? Astonishing. I do realize it's like a different world, completely a different instrument than the pedal or lever harp! Thanks for opening a window in the beautiful paraguayan repertoire

@@chiarapedrazzettiarpatelie6470 My pleasure Chiara ☺️ About the minor mode, I'm not sure since I don't really know how to play it myself either 🙈🙈🙈, nor I own one, my foundation is the pedal harp. The classically-trained harpists that also play parguayan or jarocha, they use finger picks and it's definitely a game changer!! As for your missing string, maybe the ones for the Llanera model by Camac would be a good fit. Happy harp days!!!
