Yes , to be precise Philips did, they also patented that built in ambilight technology so there are no other options but either buy Philips or add a diy kit to your existing tv/monitor The latter is exactly what this box does. There are cheaper options out there tho, you can basically get the same effect with any rgbic/argb strips and a raspi or Arduino and open source code, but from what I’ve seen nothing compares to the Philips ecosystem You can combine the ambilight with their expensive hue lights so not only your tv but the whole room will illuminate with fitting lighting based on the positions of the light source in the room. The biggest problem imo is that at least here in Germany your light data will be sent to the Netherlands first bc they’ve got some data center stuff over there So if you change the mood of your room, or turn lamps on and off there will be a delay when using anything else but the local ambilight of the tv. This for me is a total no-buy argument and I’m still waiting for an open source solution to use your diy microcomputer “ambilight” with either the real or other non Philips rgb smartlamps on a local network basis. From what I’ve seen this far the hue lights are worth the extra additional cost if you care for color accuracy , they are the best in regards to color, while other much cheaper options often beat them in the low-light department, meaning there’s only a certain amount of discrete brightness steps on hue, and other products often get more steps for low brightness, so If you got an Oled and blacked out home movie cinema it could get more moody with non hue lights, but you won’t get the extremely good color accuracy in lighter scenes. It’s a trade-off in every way. Tl;dr: if you’re on a low budget , diy your “ambilight” to existing screen If your extremely sensitive to color, a creator type guy, hue is best If you want a full room/house experience with more than just the tv lighting your room in fitting colors Philips is the way to go If you are a gamer who’s never seen the light of day , who’s Monitor probably isn’t that color accurate but rather high fps cheaper alternatives may be best , darker lights won’t blind you while gaming and still have adequate amounts of lighting steps to feel natural and not individually discrete You can also combine hue and certain non philips lights in your setup to fit your needs perfectly Whatever you do, do your research beforehand, sadly there is much room for improvement in regards to compatibility of different manufacturers so you’ll have to check if and how your dream setup can be realized

Given that it includes a RGBIC strip and two light bars, I'd hope for 150$ max, though realistically that's still too high for what it would cost them to produce at this point. They'll prolly charge like 229$ or somethin 🙄

Govee works with Razer Chroma and synapse has the ambient mode. the RGB towers are like $150 and will do the same. Probs able to get an external hard drive with RGB as well probs for less depending how much this is

My G910 keyboard's been doing this for years without any so called "AI" lol

The question I'd have is can it run locally? Cause I don't want tons of smart stuff leaving my internal network

I'm an absolute sucker for Govee. But All my lights I typically set to one function and never change them. Maybe I'll try one of their screen readers that just copies what it can see on screen

If you connect your Govee product to your pc and use razer chroma program you can already get it to match your screen. I have only played around with it once or twice as it’s not really my cup of tea but you certainly don’t need anything else to at least try it out.

It actually is quite immersive doing this with RGB behind and beside your monitor or TV. But this kind of tech has been out for over 5 years now, I'm not sure what their "AI" is actually doing. Other software to do this uses zones on your display to then simply shine the same colors at the wall. So I'm really confused about where the AI comes into play.

The product is cool but please stop adding AI on the packaging for marketing. Like fr, this is obv not ai, there's no point in using AI for this kind of stuff. Algorithm that manage to determine the best color to put already exist and work really well. Like fr brands stop slapping AI everywhere when it is not actually DL or ML. Honestly that's the kind of thing I would probably end up buying because I like RGB but the fact that they slapped AI on it, will probably make me not buy theirs just because that's not using AI.

Would be cool to see this on a white wall so the viewers could see the colour change

60Hz? Not really gamery. Give be a box like this that can do HDMI 2.1 4K144 or 8K60.. until then I'll keep looking at the Goveedreamview instead .. even though it looks like crap when installed.

So it doesn't support HDMI 2.1 ? it's basically the same as Phillips hue box plus the game effects

I know of a caveat that wasn't mentioned in the video, all mid tier phones from Samsung just freaking break sooner rather than later. My mom and grandma have bought phones from this tier for 7 years and they all have broken very prematurely in less than 2 years or even in less than 1. Thankfully I'm no longer a teenager and was finally able to convince my mom to go with a Xiaomi 12 Lite. I got the 9 Lite for my wife 3 years ago and it's the only phone she's had in her life that has lasted her this long. And the thing still holds up really good. As for me, I'll take my OP 5T to the grave, but it's still holding strong even after 1 year of no longer being able to find phone cases for it.

Doesn't seem like there's any AI involved at all and it's a pretty old, basic concept. Totally unnecessary and a waste. Would have been cool about 5-10 years ago

This would be decent for some movies if it was a large panel that was heavily diffused, but these small leds looks distracting as hell.
