Wow! It’s pretty phenomenal how far smart phone cameras have come. I started looking into cameras and then thought maybe just a good lens and post production would be enough to start with. I can’t wait to play around with some of these apps. I’m so glad I found this channel. When looking for lenses, all I could find were influencer hacks. All the videos on this channel have been incredibly helpful. Finding a knowledgeable and honest content creator is like finding a needle in a haystack. Thank you!

Another big help would be to know how to optimize the rest of the iPhone for shooting. Putting it into Airplane mode doesn’t always work 😅 I kept my 7 and stripped it of all apps and cell service. No hiccups or dropped frames yet!

This is super helpful! I haven’t done a lot with Filmic Pro lately, mainly because of Cinematic mode. But with the new iPhone 15 Pro, I’m thinking about making better use of the camera hardware to get the depth-of-field look. I don’t do a lot of post-processing, so these are some great tips to enhance things in the editing process.

Can you make a video showing the difference or a comparison when using CinemaP3 log with Dehancer, 10bit rec709 with Dehancer, and Filmic Pro log v3 with Dehancer? Something like this example on this video will be perfect. Love the look you did on this video.

I sometimes wonder whether movie goers, or those watching TV, really care that much about the ‘looks’ or whether it’s a lot of hype put out by the producers of the film/video to justify or try to sell the outrageous costs. I firmly believe that the audience is more concerned with the story line as opposed to how much grain has been added. Most of my videos are shot using a 4/3rds camera on a Gimbal and yes, sometimes I use my Smartphone either handheld or on a Gimbal. There is absolutely no way I would splash out my hard earned on cages, anaphoric lenses etc and that’s not to mention the ridiculous price of plug-ins that cost more than the editing software itself.

They do. 100%. However, they don’t necessarily realize it. Meaning, you know something is good when you see it. For example, they know the difference between a soap opera and a movie. Most don’t understand that it’s frame rate and color correction and lighting, etc. that makes them look different though.

Do Cinema P3’s 10bit log behave the same way as Filmic when converting with the Filmic’s picture profile for V3 log? What is your recommended workflow when using Cinema P3’s log when using Dehancer?

Their profiles are similar, but I often use the CinemaP3 conversion LUT and then work with it in Rec 709.

Could you please discuss how you get these massive files off your iPhone and onto your computer.... please? I'm having a hard time getting the ProRes size files to transfer reliably, and even when I get them to transfer it's taking a LONG time. A video on your process for transfers would be nice. I guess the addition of the USB-C port to the 15 will solve much of this issue so long as Apple doesn't hamstring the port. I'm currently using the lightning cable to a Mac Studio, so it I would think it should be working better for me than it is.
@iphoneographers

I’ve mentioned that in a few videos in the past, but I haven’t done a dedicated video, but what I do is just use AirDrop. In my experience, it’s faster than the Lightning cable. I typically send 10GB or under each time. Up to 15GB sometimes. But it is still slow. :) USB-C should make a big difference.

Great video. How do you attach the diffusion filter? I read that the clips can have issues with the raised border on cases around the lenses, and don't want to use a case that comes with filter threads as it's likely not as rugged as my current case. Wouldn't the iphones aggressive sharpening sharpen the diffusion? I guess not totally. Is it possible to tone down the in built over sharpening?
@iphoneographers
Жыл бұрын
It’s a screw on filter that attaches to the lens on the Beastcage. The mist filter actually helps reduce the iPhone sharpness which is one reason I like using them. You can also soften the image in post with various techniques, depending on the editing app. Thanks for watching!

This guy has a great channel but it’s pretty bias toward shooting in prores/raw. Lots of storage is going to get used up on your phone and a lot more to edit once your done too. I suggest turning off HDR as well. Most things you see on KZitem are SDR even if they look amazing. I’d shoot in 4K 24 or 30fps and 4K 60fps if you want to slow mo

What’s better? Dehancer or Filmconvert Nitrate?
@iphoneographers

This will sound like a cop out, but I like them both. Nitrate is easier to use and renders faster. But I like the bloom and halation options in Dehancer. It also has more film stock options, but it’s also more $$$. Both will get you good results in the end.

@@iphoneographers with the new iPhone 15 pro and apple log natively supported in fcxp is there still a need for filmconcert nitrate? Sure they can further optimise but do I understand it correctly that apples goal with Apple log and FCPX is the same as nitrate? To make iPhone footage more look like a cinema movie?
@iphoneographers
11 ай бұрын
The idea is to emulate film stocks with digital video. So yes, if that’s your goal, then FilmConvert or Dehancer are needed. Shooting log just gives you a nice flat image to start your grading with which is definitely more filmic.

Hi, i know I am pretty late to the party but what's the current thing with filter clip mounts (without a case) as far as I have seen there is one made by moment with 67mm screw in filters but I can't get it easy to Germany. Then there is a magnetic 52mm made by smallrig but this one is already only compatible with iphone 12/13... Are there no other options?
