People like your videos, they are simple and clear. This is of course good. In a sense, they correspond in terms of frame patterns to the stereotypical perception of cinema - a lot of dark, often a sluggish picture with gray shadows, no bright white, and so on. The thought sometimes comes to me that such a stereotype is formed from the mass viewing of bad copies of Hollywood films ... This is not a criticism, just an argument... Probably there is no single recipe, especially when color and light do not carry a certain semantic connection... Many bloggers broadcast from the dark in the reviews, you involuntarily wait for a vampire to appear in the frame) Real modern cinema is often bright, saturated with colors and with good resolution, high-quality color of human skin. Therefore, in defense of fp, I would like to say that the camera matches and can shoot brightly, juicy, with full-fledged shadows and full glare control. This is a universal full-fledged tool, in my opinion. EL-zone works correctly in the entire range of available modes, just in the truncated ones, an appropriate adjustment is required, since we see the real nature of the perceived brightness, and not the limitation we have introduced by the selected recording codec... I wish you success! Your mom is healthy! I see her support! My apologies if the translation from Russian is difficult to understand)

Any new settings since this was posted in 2023 or still using the same settings? Actually great with the yellow outlines compared to the red ones to see what's in focus. That in fact makes it easier when dark/night. Thanks.... By the way, things changed so now I mostly use it to film myself and that's a bit of a hassel. Any tips for nailing focus every time instead of calculating the distance and sort of hope you're standing in the right spot? This with looking at a external monitor far away isn't helping hehe.

Dear Anson, I just bought a Sigma FP after watching all your videos obsessively about it over the past few years, and for the life of me can’t figure out how to set a 9x16 frame guide as a second custom preset. Is there something I’m missing, or just not very good at math? Any help will be so appreciated. Keep up all your great work maintaining this beautiful little image making machine in the collective consciousness. Mxx

@@MichaelSandersStudio awesome! I’m glad the videos have helped your buying decision. For the 9x16 frame guide, because you cannot use double digits on the second half, I use 5:9. That is the ratio I have found that gets you pretty damn close to 9:16. When you set it up on the fp it should read “05.00:9”. I hope that help! Let me know if you run into any issues

Thanks so much, it worked, and I can have it in conjunction with a 2.39:1 frame guide also! As I was reading your reply, i remembered that you had mentioned that 5:9 hack in a previous set up video so thanks for the reminder. I’m curious to know whether you shoot vertical vids with the guide and the camera horizontal for social media, or do you shoot in portrait orientation? I bought the camera specifically to shoot street interviews for IG/Tik Toks, and found that a 24mm FF equivalent lens makes for the most comfortable distance from a subject, while close enough to get good on camera mic sound. But that’s with the camera held vertically. and I’d need a wider lens to shoot with the vertical frame camera horizontally, or have to step back to get them all in and so further away from mic, and more distortion from a 20mm or wider lens… I also bought the FP after having returned a Sony ZVE1 purchased for the same reason-compact size, low weight EDC with point n shoot/non threatening look to it, but didn’t like the “video-y” quality SOOC, although it did have amazing eye AF…anyways , I kept the tiny little Sony ECM G1 mic that can work with the Sigma which makes me think that there’s a whole world of potential reviews that you can shoot of lenses and other mini accessories that complement and retain the compact size and form factor most of us were drawn to the SP for in the first place. such as the diminutive TT artisans 17mm f1.4 APSC lens that I purchased brand new for $78! There’s a plethora of such lenses from TT Artisans, 7 Artisans, Voigtlander, Leica, Thypoch etc. Also came across this video of a new cage system if people want to go the other way and rig up the camera for full on Cinema use, looks cool, but I’m starting to ramble, so thanks again! Great video. Thank you for the QR. Question; do you know if Sigma is planning to open up the gate for anamorphic shooting options with future firmware updates? The sensor size is 3:2 (or damn near close at 1.502) but it shoots 16:9 (and 17:9 with Video Assistant). It would be killer feature! Shouldn't that be possible? With 3:2 shooting and 1.6x lens, it would create perfect cinematic aspect ratio of 2.4:1 What am I missing? The whole sensor ratio vs. actual shooting ratio has been always mystery to me, could you shed some light on it please? If Sigma FP can "bend" the video to be 16:9 even when the sensor is 3:2, how difficult it would be to be able to shoot 3:2 video that is the native sensor ratio (and then X that aspect with anamorphic lense)? Sigma doesn't even have high end cine camera, so it wouldn't even cannibalize it's own product, quite the contrary.

So I’ve talked about this with another fp enthusiast. It’s not protecting another camera, it’s more to preserve readout and RAW. I think we concluded they could do a 4:3 and keep raw, but idk. It’s tricky. I think they stay away from stuff they know they may not be able to execute well

So what is the advantage of the FP over the FX 3 I have been told you can convert the FX 3 12 bit raw footage shot to the cdnc codex with a converter And the Sony has a much better AF if needed as well So much bad info on social media makes it hard to make intelligent choices
@Ansonandco
Жыл бұрын
I would say it’s not about what is better or an Advantage. If you need AF Sony has been the go to choice for years now. But for people like myself that use cine lenses, that is a non issue. So there is what it can do outside of AF. Super high ISO is fantastic, but no one talks about the level of noise that the fx3 produces in lower level high ISO. If you need 3200 or 4000 ISO for a scene, the Sony is going to have WAY more noise. You almost have to go to crazy high ISO of the fx3 and use ND to get normal low light exposure. Also I would be curious about the 12 bit, I’m pretty sure it’s pro res raw which is compressed raw. CDNG is uncompressed and will give you way more flexibility in post. Also there is color capturing, it’s been stated that the fp captured more color info than the Sony Venice, which is their high end cinema camera. All that to say it’s more about which tool suits your needs. The fp is a very niche camera, it’s not for every one, but if it makes sense for you, then it’s the best tool for the job, but the same can be said for the fx3. Not exactly an answer, but more food for thought. Only you can figure out what is best for your projects

fx3, A7sIII, fx6 will reveal their capabilities only with large additional investments in the recorder, optics, storage cards. Most owners work in S-log3, the output picture is close to a smartphone. Sigma in fhd 12 bit will give more with minimal investment, but will not provide tenacious tracking autofocus if it is important.

Yeah, even if you're not feeling the impact of flickering light, strobe effect etc. immediately it doesn't mean it's ok for your eyes in the long run. People working as welders protect their eyes with thick darkened glass for the same reason. These bursts of light energy are hitting the retina faster than our eyes can react to it.
