Instead calling the venue why not call the bank and just cancel the card!

Amazon Alexandra: Megan, what in heavens' name you get carried away with money? You should get yourself a full time job as if I did. Who do you think you are Megan, Veruca Salt and Ebenezer Scrooge? Megan: Okay Alexandra, I am sorry! If I get myself a full-time Target department store job, could you please forget what I already did. Amazon Alexandra: Fine by me, I already got my full time job working for the government.

If you coddle people even family you only enable them, let them face consequences from the start and they will learn from the experience and do better before the price of the lesson is too much for them to overcome.

"Was I right to cut Megan off completely, or should family always get another chance?" Another chance? What does 'another chance' mean? A second chance? A third chance? A fourth? Does it ever end?

Why on earth did this guy give a 20 year old adult a credit card with an unknown spending limit??? Did he feel that guilty over his parents' deaths to do that?? He seemed to forget that she wasn't the only child to lose both parents. He did as well. He was just asking for trouble. What kind of money was he making to just allow his sister to buy designer clothes, jewelry, expensive dinners, etc. and not even blink an eye??? And for five years on top of that??? What didn't he just cancel the card? Why did he have to get his sister fired from her job too??? Sounds like he was mad at himself so much that he over compensated by going overboard with his sister. He should have given her a card with a very small limit on it like perhaps $500. That would have been reasonable for an emergency. Then kept close tabs on it and questioned her about EVERY CHARGE on it that was suspect from day one. That would have let her know immediately that he wasn't a sucker and was watching. I call him an AH for being an idiot, and her an AH for being young and noticing that big brother didn't seem to care what she used the card for, so she started to abuse it. This story was stupid.

You gave your sister another chance after you find out she was running up bills and she just thought you were such a sucker!! He cried and promised to pay you back and then she said out there on the fire escape outside the building and was telling her girlfriend how dumb you were and how she could easily manipulate you that was a chance to get it right but she didn't when she got to The venue she didn't really apologize just give me another chance she's just wanting more and more you did the right thing cut off she's grown she'll figure it out!! Always protect yourself you can forgive them it's been done!!

Canceling the card was the right thing to do. Reversing those charges was the right thing to do. Calling her out was the right thing to do. But Seriously?? Why would he get her fired from your job?? That was the sister's means to earn money to pay the guy back. Let her keep her job so she can work hard and understand why what she did was wrong. Sure she could try to steal from the boss but the brother can warn her not to try her shenanigans.

Well, this has been a learning experience for both of you. You gave a 20 year old adult a credit card tied to your account. FREE MONEY! She should have gotten her own card tied to her own account. Then you don't keep tabs on how much she is spending on that card, and on what she is spending it on for 5 YEARS! Did you ever explain where that money comes from? Did you ever tell her that she had to repay you monthly out of her wages? Did you ever teach her how and why to budget? Did you tell her to stop over spending on the card once you belatedly realized that her spending was out of control? Cut the credit card cord! Terminate her card!
