You had mentioned "The Warlord Chronicles" in a video last year which piqued my interest, so I read all three books starting last January. Awesome trilogy! The first chapter or two was a challenge to get into the flow of the story, but it took off from there. I'll check out another of his series in the future. And years ago (mid 1980s?) a shopping mall about 20 miles away had a Waldenbooks at one end and a B. Dalton at the other. I was in book heaven whenever I went there!

as the time passes, year by year, I'm more convinced that LOTR (if it's really that much neccessary to call it a trilogy) should be just in honorable mentions. the story is absolute top of the fantasy literature for the time of it's release (even though I liked Hobbit more, but that's just a personal choice) but don't tell me that it has to be on top for the rest of time because there are lots of better (maybe even as inovative as lotr was, take asoiaf for example) books writtten since then. but if you want it on top just because it was inovative, I guess that in terms of trilogies (which lotr is not) there is none that much ahead of it's own time as lotr

Hey there. I love your videos. I totally respect your opinions. But I do feel like I need to chime in on the Star Wars thing! I hadn't read any of the old EU when Disney bought it and made the sequel trilogy, but I wanted to find out if the Disney canon novels did a decent job of filling in the gaps. And to a point, the Aftermath trilogy certainly scratches that itch of a post-RoTJ story. And the "Shattered Empire" comics explain Operation: Cinder, which is a cool way for Palpy to give the galaxy a giant middle finger, in the event of his death. Which is 100% what the character would do, imo. Meanwhile, I just started Heir to the Empire, and there are certainly differences in the approach. But Timothy Zahn also wrote an additional 6 books that are Disney canon now too. So I'm not saying you should like the decision to wipe the slate clean with a new Disney canon. But if you give them a shot, I think you'll at least enjoy Aftermath: Life Debt and Aftermath: Empire's End. They do a very good job of explaining what happens after Endor, in the year that follows. And it goes into how there was a contingency plan that he enacted out of sheer bitterness to those who survived him. The Imperial remnants also become factionalized so it's interesting to see how that unfolds. And it's all part of a single unified canon timeline, which makes it easier to sift through what you're reading, heh.

In the south he does his best to save the city, he lets people go, he helps Ardee, he helps the kingdom... . The villains of the First Law trilogy are the Gurkish and the Eaters. If you would choose a villain from the main cast, I would say it's rather the one who is pulling the strings.

Yeah absolutely feeling you on the Liveship Traders books, absolute top tier of fantasy. I would call Kennit an Anti-Hero. Mate, you need to come visit Northern Ireland. If you're a big fantasy head there's so much to see. North Antrim coast has all the Game of Thrones TV series locations, if you carry on down you can see the area around Rostrevor, which CS Lewis himself said was what he pictured as Narnia when he was writing the books. We also have lots of fun IRL grimdark epics in our ancient and not so ancient history. I really need to read Red Rising. I would put the original Earthsea Trilogy (Wizard, Tombs, Shore) in any top ten. IMO the only thing in the whole genre comparable to or arguably better than Tolkien.

Some of my favorite trilogies: The Manifold Trilogy by Steven Baxter. This is an unpopular one, but I love them. The concepts in them broke my brain in a good way. The Lord of the Rings. I love these books. Sure sections drag (I admit to hating Tom Bombadil) but I just love these books. I read them in highschool as the movies were coming out and just loved them to death. The display of such intense friendship, grand adventure, the deepened roots of what we all think of when we think of fantasy. The Three Body Problem (Rememberence of Earth's Past) I can see why this one is so love it/hate it for many people. The characters are very flat, but if the plot and concepts in a story are great I can overlook that and enjoy it (this is my opinion on Baxter. His characters are often extremely flat and uninteresting but his ideas are just so damn mind blowing) there is a lot of philosophy in the books, which while not my thing, are a fun exploration. The style is very different, which I've read is more in line with fiction typical of China. So I enjoy getting a peek into another culture. The Riyria Reveleations is turning into a trilogy I think I'm going to love. Partway into the 2nd book and I've had a ton of fun so far. Here's hoping it continues strong and doesn't crash and burn. The Hunger Games. I read them when they were new, before the market got FLOODED with teen dystopian novels. I also binged all 3 in a sitting lol. But I had a ton of fun reading these books. I like how Katniss wasn't actually special at all. She was just a tool. An "everyman" dragged into an impossible situation. And that's where most of the knockoffs fail. They all make their protagonist "special."

Trilogies in my top 10 that aren't in yours: 1) The Dark Elf Trilogy, by RA Salvatore. While the Icewind Dale trilogy is very good, The Dark Elf Trilogy is far and away may favorite Drizz't arc. It is probably even in my to top 10 (or at least top 15) book series. 2) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy. Does this Trilogy have 5 books? Yes. Is it still called a trilogy? Yes. If there is anyone who can get away with a 5 book Trilogy, it is Douglas Adams. 3)The Earthsea Trilogy by Ursula K. Le Guin. Yes, there are 6 Earthsea books now, but for 17 years it was a trilogy, so I'm counting it. 4) The Giver Trilogy, consisting of "The Giver", "Gathering Blue", and and "Messenger". Admittedly, there is now a 4th book, but that came 8 years after the third and when I discovered The Giver had tangential books, that 4th book did not exist.

I really enjoyed Dark Elf. Just liked Icewind Dale a touch more.

Hey Mike, I’m curious on your thought of the five Warrior Angels series. I don’t think I’ve seen a video where u covered it. Did u enjoy lonesome crown and the series overall?

Great list - although I find that both for Red Rising and the First Law, the „newer“ trilogies are at least as good as the original ones. (Okay, Red Rising will turn out to be 4 books …)
