Lovely colouring Elaine, you’ve inspired me to try coffee - I’m impatiently waiting for it to dry while I watch 😂

I would very much like to see a demo with the pens.. I think "biro" is ball point here? Something I have never done before.

Yep - biro is a ballpoint pen. Sorry, kind of used to just saying "biro" here in the Uk ;) I'll see if I can work on the Kanoko Egusa page on camera when I get onto it :)

@@saffire_colours It's ok, I actually find the differences in speech/meanings between what is essentially the same language fascinating.

Regarding printing onto watercolor paper. Inkjet inks vary. Dye based inks are very watersoluble (and also fugitive so don't hang them on your wall). Pigment based inks are much less so. You will still get a slight movement but not enough to affect your work when painting. The weight of paper you can use also depends on how your printer feeds, bottom feeds push the paper into a sharp turn, sometimes two... a back side feed is gravity fed and uses only one soft turn. Keeping this in mind, if you look around you can find a cheap printer that will print for watercolor much better than most. Mine is a Canon.. it cost me $35 and is a back side feed and pigment ink. I can successfully print up to 8x10 sheets of up to 140lb paper (one at a time), and simply paint away. I have several printed works of this type framed on my walls at home. I always prefer 100% cotton paper for actual watercolor paint... with favorites being Bee, Baohong, Arches, Langton Prestige, Strathmore 500, and Sauders Waterford. I get the Bee in bulk packs of precut 6x9, it also comes in sketchbooks. The others are pretty much whichever happens to be on sale, and I tend to go with glued pads or full sheets as they are both the least expensive and easiest to break down to printable size. The price is worth the ease of use and archival qualities...painting on pulp is like driving a car with a flat tire IMO... but if you really can't for some reason the only other paper I would even consider (I actually did a massive watercolor paper test back in 2020 in conjunction with a painting group I belonged to where I painted the same images on over 60 different types, so I pretty much tried them all) is standard Langton, which is a cotton blend... and Aquafine if doing very light strokework with no wet washes or perhaps wc pencils. That said, I do wc in certain coloring books on a very limited scale.. and it's always problematic but there just isn't much getting around it if you want to use the actual book. Finally, another solution is waterproof pen and a lightpad if you have a good hand for tracing. Lightpads are quite inexpensive these days compared to the past and I've successfully used mine with 300 lb paper (which is a dream to paint on). It's a LOT of work especially with a detailed page. If you live in a sunny area you can also use a window to supply the light for tracing.. this is a very old school solution that does work in a pinch. Back when I started painting lightboxes were huge things that cost several hundred dollars so we had to find other ways to get it done. One warning.. a lot of pens that claim to be waterproof aren't so be sure to test first.

@@saffire_colours You can do pencil and they will come out looking like a standard painting.. or miss out on a lot of the detail and just get the basic outlines as a guide to shape.. or use a different color ink for fun effects. I like to do line and wash anyway so I often use my own photographs as a base for paintings and sketch over the top. Actual drawing has never been a strong skill for me so it's a great shortcut that allows you to create a page from anything.
