To me the worst disappointment was Sam Esmail's Leave the World Behind, it's got so much potential but it's so hollow and it fails so bad at building tension - which is also the only thing it does for two hours for a very lame payoff with no stakes because the director is too afraid to hurt any of the characters (beside the creep, and even then he doesn't get too hurt!). So many uncomfortable panning shots, so many creepy string orchestra tracks but in the end everything is bland, most of the plot happens because characters hide information from each other (such an overused trope), some of the things that happen make no technological sense and it all feels preachy and condescending.

Thanks for sharing! I know what you mean, I think they tried to market it as a chilling dystopian thriller (and to be fair some scenes were quite scary), but then over and over they kept on falling on the usual clichés and I agree that some things didn't make sense, especially concerning how technology was or wasn't working. Also the CGI of the ship was awful 😅 The only reason why I wouldn't include it in my worst of the year is because in the end it did get me a bit paranoid, but not because of the plot, but because I realised how we humans will always panic and overreact and cause way more damage than we should. For example at the beginning of the movie it's just a blackout and they're already convinced it's the end of the world. I hope all of my stream of consciousness made sense!

Hey Debbie! Here's some of the flicks that shouldn't have been made I've deleted from memory in more ways than one but I'll allow a temporary refresh for recap's sake: Operation Fortune - huge waste of everybody's acting abilities, well, what's left of Hugh Grant's anyway & that's not saying much Everything Everywhere All At Once - got to this one late & for me it was one of the biggest disappointments of the year, couldn't take the parts that were supposed to be serious seriously, & the silly parts were 1,000,000x more gross & unnecessary than funny, nothing worked here & I still don't get the hype in the same way the Austin Powers series never felt right Barbarian - another one I didn't catch for a while & didn't think it lived up to the hype, lead actress was convincing but the story didn't really pull together & Bill Skarsgård's appeal is stretching mighty thin - he was as out of place in this as his awkward pace-killing character was in John Wick 4 Dark Harvest - they almost had something here but it all fell apart in a weak story that couldn't hold water & it's own attempts at mythology, & just got weirder & dumber instead of scarier Freelance - whoever greenlit this script & it's financing should be bankrupt Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - disappointment would be an understatement, all of the joy, adventure & spirit of the first one is long, long gone, don't think this franchise can ever come back Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - omg that was bad in so many ways, ref. GotG V3 Paint - took the cringe quite a few steps too far, not to mention Owen Wilson is suffering from the same syndrome affecting Bill Skarsgård, Will Ferrell & many others Fool's Paradise - I've always like Charlie Day in Sunny In Philadelphia & most of his movies, but wtf was that Robots - pretty flat, couldn't get the rom-com, the sci-fi or the slapstick right Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - this needs a major rewrite & recast, should have followed the Beast Wars animated series storyline instead of this steaming mess No Hard Feelings - worse than an American Pie sequel & barely made it to the end with all the regrets Meg 2: The Trench - even worse than the first, should have learned my lesson & stayed away, Jason Statham has been phoning it in Corner Office - sad & lonely, I feel sorry for this movie Dumb Money - the GameStop story is interesting but Paul Dano & Seth Rogen do not have the abilities to carry this, & whoever told Pete Davidson he can act needs to be punched The Exorcist: Believer - no scares, no thrills, no actors, no script, no direction, no way is this a movie That was kinda therapeutic, think one of my 2024 resolutions should be to watch less movies that suck! Happy New Year Debbie, see you on the other side! 🥂🥳🎈🎊🕺💃🔥💣💥🎉✨

Thanks for sharing your list! I think the major problem with Everything everywhere all at once is that so many fans of it got to the point of bullying anyone who would try to discuss about it without praising it as the best movie ever. I liked it but I don't agree with the insane treatment it got (usually by people who haven't seen that many "alternative" movies). And I 100% think the awards they got were mostly due to the fact it was so popular, not due to actual details

Of the movies I watched at the cinema the title must go to Barbie. I wanted to be part of a global event, and it really ended there. Margot Robbie being painfully gorgeous, Ryan Gosling being amazingly funny (I keep my fingers crossed that The Fall Guy, however good/bad it is it will enable him to play more comedic roles, like I said here before). Yeah, maybe I wasn't the target audience. But I feel like this movie wanted to make everyone happy, and at the end it delivered to no one. I wish you a Happy New Year, filled with only good movies, so the 10 top list of 2024 will be utterly difficult to compile!

Happy new year! I see what you mean about Barbie, I ended up not hating it as much as I expected, but I think a lot of people are reading too much into it... As if it's a new feminist beacon 😅

I didn't mind it, but it was hyped up to oblivion, described as the best thing to grace our eyes in decades, and it earned a ton of awards just because it was the most trending title 💀

Hey Debbie, I know I frequently come on here and comment on your videos with the promise I am going to make my own; and I have been searching around on how to do so but I have no idea how to get started. What kind of video editing software do you use; because I'm trying to find one but all of them are really expensive and I don't want to invest that much before I know this is something I really want to do.

Hi, I use different ones depending on what I'm doing... It all depends on what software you use, what you have to do at the moment (when you start you're just looking to do basic editing while online of course there are tutorials for even the most detailed colour grading). To be honest, if you're really really at the start with editing, your computer probably has a pre-installed editing program that you could try out to see if it's something you could enjoy

@@llamasarus1 I agree on the audience part, when we were at the cinema, everybody was having a good time, laughing/screaming etc. I think it's the kind of film made for entertainment, but I really didn't like the dialogues and delivery 😭

I found Maestro to be very boring. I also had high hopes for The Creator and, besides all the technical aspects, the writing was very predictable. Looking forward to seeing Nosferatu.

I haven't watched Maestro yet, and today I opened Twitter and saw it's full of him saying how it took him 6 years to nail a 6 minute scene so I'm concerned it might be Oscar bait, so I'll wait and see 😁 I'm also looking forward to Nosferatu, love Robert Eggers!

I might be in the minority here, but I really didn’t like Scream 6. The last film already felt like it was running out of ideas, but 6 solidified this series was over for me. Poor writing and story, no attempt at trying to critique or lampoon horror like how the originals did, and so many aggravating fakeouts that made the whole thing feel toothless. Great list by the way!

Grande Debbie! 🙋♂️ sempre bella come il sole e sempre un piacere sentirti. Alura, ti dico la mia... I cannot say anything about my worse 2023 movies cuz I haven't seen all of 'em, BUT I can tell you about one move which I hated as much as you (prolly even more), and that's the Exp4ndebles. Not that the first 3 installments had a wow-factor, but at least: A) they had humor B) they had good action (e ci mancherebbe altro, cazz) C) they had a story But this one? It seemed to be written by a screenwriting student who gave a shot at writing a script after just 2 weeks! By the time the movie ended, I still hadn't understood what the fvck it was about. It started as some revenge story about avenging Sly but then it turned into a must-stop-Garcia-be4-he-destroys-the-world kinda thing. Everything was disconnected and confusing. And the characters... Jason Statham was the backbone of the film, as you said. Fair enough... but the rest? 50 Cents seemed to be taken and put there cuz he was big enough to be in the Expendables... ... Megan Fox could have been the badass female character who could smash everyone (Atomic Blonde, per intenderci), but she turned out to be the not-that-great hottie of the gang (scusami la schiettezza)... ... Decha (Tony Jaa) was another character that was clearly put there for the story to make sense, but the writers (and, ultimately, the director) decided to not show us any back story. I mean, he was the guy who killed the assassin version of himself, but made an exception and become again that person to avenge Sly, but then they didn't make Sly have any conversation with him at all? Please... ... and García and his line about him gettin' rich thanks to WWIII and that no-one could stop him? Childish and cartoonish. Is he the antagonist of The Expandables or the one of the Disney movie? Please... absolute crap. Anyway, maybe it was this bad cuz Sly didn't write it (if I'm not mistaken)... whatever the reason, to me, it deserves a big, fat zero. Alla prossima, cara! 🙋♂️ sempre bella e sempre in forma 🙌
