A good list. There are three I'll have to check out. The only two I would of chanced for my list are close encounters, never had much affection for it. And I would of replaced Godfather with Goodfellas, just an all around better gangster movie that was true.

A nice list. I'll tell ya what. Back in 1997 I worked at a movie theater and was a "screener" as part of my job. Basically to watch the films to make sure the reels were put in the right order. So I was able to screen the Star Wars SE trilogy, the day before release and in an empty theater by myself and got paid to do it. It was awesome and my friends hated me for it. I don't know how you kept the list to 20. Mine'd never end

But I said no because they were so massive I had no space for it.

I never saw it in theaters but my dad got us a VHS-player in 1990 and first two movies we rented were Lethal Weapon 2 and Die Hard. Good Times :) My favourite TV-series is the original Battlestar Galactica (1978). I saw it before Star Wars, so for me it's the original and best sci-fi tale and Star Wars is just a cheap copy :)

The first film was Star Wars The New Hope what I saw in the Theatre 30+ years Ago. In the early 80's in Hungary was Socialism an the SW came here 3 Years after the US premiere! It was amasing! I remember clearly even now! And the best! When we went Germany when I was a kid and we bought our first VHS ( Mitshubishi ) and the first film we get is Buckarro Banzai!!! I saw many many times! I put this list my big favorite movie: Kelly's Heroes! Greetings from Hungary!

I'm actually quite interested to see this list because you have a wide palette of popular and obscure films. Lets see, how many of these have I seen. 20.) Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Never Seen It.) 19.) Time Bandits (Never Seen It.) 18.) Brazil (Never Seen It.) 17.) Back To The Future (Such a timeless classic, and just an awesome movie for all generations of people.) 16.) Ghostbusters (Another timeless classic that is easily quotable with some of the best sharp and comedic dialogue I've ever had the pleasure of watching.) 15.) Apocalypse Now (Never Seen It.) 14.) Lord of The Rings Trilogy (Beautiful films and probably the best representation of medieval fantasy.) 13.) E.T. (Another timeless classic, and a film that deserves to be watched by kids and adults.) 12.) Star Trek Film Series (I only ever seen the voyage home, but I need to watch the other ones as well.) 11.) Army of Darkness (Never Seen It.) 10.) The Matrix (I was lucky enough to watch this in theatre, and watching this film in theatre was one of the best theatre experiences I ever had.) 9.) The Godfather Trilogy (I only ever seen the first film - fairly recently actually. I still need to watch the other two entries in the series.) 8.) The Terminator (One of the best action movies out there, the sequel is obviously superior but this one is a great addition and it deserves to be watched by action films and film fans alike.) 7.) Conan the Barbarian (Never seen it from beginning to end. I seen specific parts, but I need to watch it from beginning to end.) 6.) Indiana Jones Film Series (I seen all the films, but I never watched temple of doom from beginning to end. I seen parts of the second film, but never the entire thing.) 5.) Alien Quadrilogy (I do prefer Aliens over Alien, but Aliens is probably the best action of the 1980's and its probably one of the best action movies of all time.) 4.) Star Wars (There is nothing that needs to be said. A film series that lives up to the legacy that it represents.) 3.) Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai (Never Seen It.) 2.) Big Trouble In Little Ninja (One of my best memories as a child when it came to watching movies.) 1.) Blade Runner (A movie I finally watched within the last ten years. One of the best film scores I ever listened to, and one of the most beautiful movies I've ever had the pleasure to watch with regards to its scenery, setting, philosophical message, and dialogue.) A really good list and at least I watched the majority of these films.

Yes!! Blade Runner! One of my top three favorite movies of all time! (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Blade Runner). I've recommended it to many people. What you said about how you don't think you'd be who you are today without Star Wars, yes, that's true for me too. It changed me from an early age. Who knows what I'd be like today and what I'd be doing today, if it wasn't for that movie. It had SUCH an impact in younger people when they first saw it. On that note, the documentary "Empire of Dreams", about George Lucas, his early movies, and then the creation of Star Wars, is a fantastic documentary. It renewed my respect and appreciation for George and for what he really accomplished.

You were lucky to see Close Encounters and Blade Runner in the original release! I can't complain though, my dad and I would stay in the theatre to watch the show again for some of these selections!

Great list man. Its funny because my parents were the same way, they just didn't care what I watched. My love of horror movies developed because of that. Growing up in the 80s was truly amazing.

Great list, I hate E.T but I seem to be in the minority on that one. I would rather play the Atari game than watch the movie. XD My list would be something like this, no particular order: A Better Tomorrow A Fish Called Wanda Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein Alien/Aliens Almost Famous Back to the Future Big Trouble in Little China Clue Dazed and Confused Enter the Dragon Ghostbusters Highlander Kingdom of Heaven (The Director's Cut) O' Brother Where Art Thou? Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Police Story 1-2 The Last Samurai The Private Eyes The Terminator/T2 The Thing (1982)

Fun fact: Harrison Ford did not want to be in Raiders of the Lost Ark because he didn't want to be associated with every George Lucas project. Ford already was commited to other films but I believe those were canceled or something. Besides, Tom Selleck was getting famous for Magnum so Selleck dropped out to focus on the TV show and Ford accepted to do Raiders.

Swap E.T., Star Trek, Conan, Buckaroo Banzai, and Alien with Seven Samurai, Gojira (Godzilla King of the Monsters), Stargate, Starship Troopers, and Ghost in the Shell (animated) and you essentially have my top 20 list (not same order) as well. I will definitely have to give Conan and Buckaroo Banzai a look. Thanks for sharing!

For me seeing the Matrix (at Silver City in Richmond!) was about seeing the trailer for Star Wars: Episode I. And I came out of the theatre thinking that I had just seen something that would make Star Wars irrelevant. Even though the Star Wars prequels left the door open for someone to replace them, the Matrix sequels couldn't maintain that momentum and take over.

Dude your favorites are like spot on what I would pick, if you haven't seen it, watch " The Burbs" with Tom Hanks. 80s perfection. Also check out 13th warrior, based on a book called Eaters of the Dead. I'm just chiming in cuz you like nailed this list for me.

I prefer the first Godfather over the rest of the trilogy. It had better pacing and didn't drag feel like such a drag to sit through. Other two Godfather movies I like but the first one doesn't have a lot of pacing issues. Back to the Future 2 is still my favorite of the series. Like who doesn't like hoverboards, dammit. I still love the first Matrix to this day. Watched it as a kid on VHS and I was amazed. The characters were flat in my opinion, the story can get bit pretentious but it stands out as an action movie even today but I hate the fact when industry had to incorporate the slow-mo's and bullet-times in modern movies because I believe they should have been left out for The Matrix otherwise it looses the uniqueness. That's why we get incredibly shitty movies like Wanted. The sequels are meh, but I dig The Animatrix with few exceptions (I dislike the first and the last episode but the rest of them are great). I love Army of Darkness but Evil Dead 2 is still my favorite of the series. The first one was okay as a horror title but Evil Dead 2 is where the tongue and cheek humor started in the series and I love the combination of horror and comedy. Plus I believe ED2 still stands the test of time today. I still like Terminator movies today. My ex-colleagues from high school thought the first movie sucks but I always thought of the first movie to be a horror flick and T2 is an action flick and I enjoy them for that. T3 was okay, stupid but entertaining, the rest of them are complete and utter shit. The Last Crusade is still my favorite Indy movie despite my love for the first two. Indy 4 I don't even want to talk about. I still prefer the first Alien over Aliens. Alien is an amazing claustrophobic sci-fi horror and the world building still stands out even today. That's what I like about classic Ridley Scott movies, he can make timeless movies. Aliens is a solid action flick but I have to be honest, the film suffers from pacing issues near the last act that almost made me sleep. The original Star Wars trilogy is still an amazing family entertainment, Empire is still my favorite and Return is my second favorite. I still appreciate the original Star Wars but in my honest opinion the movie has aged like Kirstie Alley during her cocaine addiction but I still watch it from time to time but it's still my least favorite of the three. Prequels were bleh to me but I still dig Episode 3. Blade Runner is downright amazing. The Deckard/Rachael love scene is my favorite in the movie. Big Trouble in Little China is fucking awesome, it's John Carpenter at his prime. The Thing and The Escape From New York are sublime. I even love The Escape From LA despite it being super corny. I even love John Carpenter's Vampires and I feel no regrets. Great video.

Maybe they'll make a Playstation VR version of Blade Runner :) I myself have played the PC game in the 90s and loved it. The X-files could also be made into great Playstation VR games I think.

I must say that I have been watching your channel for quite a while now & for a minute there I almost thought you was going to disappoint me for a moment, until you pulled Blade Runner out of the bag. Still to this day, I cannot believe this film was made mostly with practical effects & miniature sets. I just love the way the universe of Blade Runner feels futuristic & yet old at the same time. I think this embodies the essence of what has come to be referred to as "Used Future." The term was actually made popular by Star Stars, but I don't think any film made it feel as believable as Blade Runner. Truly awesome film.
