I've had my 2009 Murano for 10 years. I'm the second owner. First owner took good care of and so have I. Oil change every 5K. Transmission fluid change every 50K. Only issues I've had besides the normal breaks, batteries, etc. were a power steering hose, a motor mount, and an oil pan seal. I drive gently, don't tow and maintain religiously. Car has 161K now and still runs strong!

Informative video, and great personality. Glad I found you! I have heard a lot about the transmissions going out, (by far the most common problem I've seen online) but your notes on aggressive driving are helpful. The thing accelerates almost like an electric, so it's a strong temptation to make it growl, lol. I love the smoothness of not being lurched by, or waiting on, gear changes, though. I found a pretty good annoyance on my second one of these, a '14 after my '11 was totaled: Rear wiper blade change requires removing the wiper arm. The manual just tells people to go to the dealer to get the rear blade changed. Instantly took me back to my Alero that needed the engine lifted to change the accessory belt! It went around the stupid engine mount.

I have 09 Murano just like this one (mines is dark blue) I’ve always taken my Murano to the Nissan dealer for all maintenance and I’m sitting 204k miles and counting, no issues outside of the normal wear and tear, replacing the radiator, engine tune up and suspension pieces (struts, bearings, controls arms) were my biggest expenses - but the engine and transmission have been rock solid, feels like it can go another 200k miles easily.

I own a 2013 s model, purchased at 28.000 miles now has 87,000 and have had ZERO problems.....(None). same battery, just change the oil every 4000K miles and keep rolling. Never have changed the CVT fluid, and probably never will. As my neighbor changed his trans fluid in his 14 model, and 3 weeks later he was buying a New Transmission. I would buy another Murano tomorrow. Don't Hot Rod them, and keep the oil changed, and you could go infinity miles.... Good Video.

The 2nd generation Murano also has an issue with control arm bushings and one of the motor mounts. I think the transfer case is known to leak which could cause it to eventually fail as you mentioned. Stick to the FWD Murano if you live in a warmer climate.

You won't deal with this down in Georgia I suppose, but the AWD sure is nice in winter. I got a 14 about half a year ago and I'm going to have to do the vent valve. Looks easy enough anyway. Had an 07 two vehicles ago as well. Took it from 230 to 290 kms (divide by 1.6 for miles) with no problems. Hit a deer and wrote it off, but there was no indication that it wouldn't keep running for a long time yet! Hopefully my new one is just as reliable.

The a/c wasn’t working in our 2012 and we were told we needed a new compressor but when they started the installation it was discovered that an electrical connector was melted. The repair was about $150.00. It made me wonder how many people pay for new compressors they don’t need. Find a mechanic you can trust.

Front wheel bearings are a problem, but they're not that bad to change but not super easy either. The dealership will service your transmission for about $230. Because it's a complicated transmission I think it's worth it to use the dealership for that. We do it every 60,000 miles, flush and fill. The alternator goes bad on this thing and normally an alternator is very easy. Changing the alternator on a 2012 Nissan Murano is murder. This is the hardest alternator in the world probably. Well I'm sure there are harder ones but it is very fucking hard. When I figured out how hard it was I bought the most expensive one they had. I still have not changed the spark plugs and has almost 170,000 MI, I really need to do that soon.

Hey Alex, I watch your videos and they are great! A bit about me and my car: I drive a 2017.5 Nissan Murano SL AWD, purchased new. It now has around 108K miles. I’ve always been diligent with maintenance, never missing a service. The CVT fluid was flushed at 65K and 90K miles. Considering the reviews online, I’m concerned about potential CVT issues and am thinking about trading in my car. Honestly, it’s been a comfortable and cost-effective vehicle compared to others, including some luxury models. Given the CVT concerns, do you think it’s safe to keep the car? I’d appreciate your thoughts.

i've been constantly looking at used muranos, usually the ones in my price range are all wheel drive... WHY? it doesn't snow here, literally no snow this year, usually if it snows it's melting in a couple hours if it even shows up at all. full time all wheel drive is pointless to me, and then combine it with CVT?? grrr... i've had a couple nissan's and loved them, but haven't owned one with cvt... still really tempted, so many nice options. honestly would like a manual transmission in one, but never seen one, don't know if they even exist (at least in the US) but thanks for the honest opinion.

Pretty spot on. I think the biggest problem with the CVT is zero maintenance. People in general never think about transmission service unless someone like you is able to convince them to do it and even then they will come back with my Granpappy’s uncles brother said never ever service a transmission etc etc. My mom had a 07 Altima 4 cylinder. Car made it 150,000 miles with zero CVT issues. Car only needed 1 ignition coil in that 150k before it was totaled. I changed that fluid every 25k.

I'm an owner of a 2010 LE FWD Murano. The only thing I had done personally was the boot air intake replace. Got the part, DIY 5 mins change and done. That part will always need to be replaced once it goes bad and have a big air loss and it throw all kinds of codes that some people will automatically assume it's the transmission. I heard about the CVT tranny being the worse. I try to look at WHAT causes it (driving hard, fast, towing) and avoid breaking the tranny. Since I drive like a Grandma and take it easy, I change the CVT fluid at 60k miles at the most, drain and fill. Never flush. I am the 2nd owner of my Murano. Got it in 2017 at 70k miles. Currently at 156k miles now. Other than the radiator area broke out at me (I took it to Nissan Dealership for that and they took care of it) I never had any other problem. I treat it as a princess lol comfy rides again.

These sound like an owner issue as opposed to a vehicle/design issue. I had a 2009 and now I have a 2017. I have never had any problems with either. But I also take good care and keep up with regular maintenance. True its not cheap - but neglect is way more expensive!! Great video though, very informative!

I have a 2013 Murano and so far so good! It has 112,000 miles on it and I have never changed the transmission fluid. I guess I better do this ASAP since I travel for business. I am looking at new cars and was waiting to see what the new 2024 Murano is going to change. I may look at the Toyota Highlander or Lexus RX350. The only thing I am not sure about these is that they are changing to a 4 cylinder turbo engine instead of the 6 cylinder. Your thoughts or suggestions on a new car. My company is buying it and I want the safest with least amount of expensive maintenance. Also looked at the Volvo 60.

AWD is great for the snow in snowy terrain so its great that and slippery when wet.

Dont floor it from a complete stop. I have a gen 2 Odyssey and gen 3 Murano. Kinda saved them from others for their low price and because im not 20 anymore and drive like a grandma.

Hi I recently got my 2009 Nissan Murano, everything is fine on the car besides it’s slow to accelerate, or it stalls for seconds before accelerating. I’ve had my mechanic check, and they said there’s nothing wrong with the accelerator. I honestly don’t know what the issue can be. Thanks

Hey Zolay, have someone check your air intake hose to see if there is hole somewhere or if the seals are intact. My murano was doing the things you described and was fixed with replacing the intake hose which had a huge tear in it.

I had to switch locations (from in front of the building) because I didn’t want the cars that were driving by to keep interrupting the video in the background.

My Murano has a problem with reverse. It only works when it cold but as the engine gets heated up and hot, it works no more..
