Clever! •I have found the issue with sealing non-standard vacuum bags to be the balance of melting the air channel without cutting through the bag. The solution I have found that works consistently better is to use a strip of material from a $.99 plastic shower loofa. It easily provides enough air flow and melts easily. It works every time on the flimsiest bags.

I think the point of putting the ridged strip in the bag opening is to mimic the tiny ridges on the commercial vacuum sealer bags. These ridges allow the air to fully be removed. It seems to me the turning your bag inside out does nothing to solve the need to have tiny ridges for the vacuum to be formed.
