Running your heat is also making your fridge pull more power to keep the interior cold. An easy way to keep it from using more power is to insulate it by throwing a wool blanket over it as wool is an excellent insulator.

Remember when you were just getting buy on an inverter plugged into your cigarette lighter? And rocking it! What happened to those days? Just kidding 😂 I actually agree, even tho I am pro AGM for people on a budget, lithium might be a HUGE advantage for you now. I accidentally depleted my 200ah AGM down to like 26% ONCE due to it being overcast and not paying attention. AGMs do recover better from deep depletion better then say flooded batteries. But I was really scared I had damaged my batteries and I was in a panic! I did use a plug in battery charger to recover them. It's a great emergency tool to have. And you can plug the battery charger into the Jackery in a jam. That's what I did, ran the fridge and battery charger off the Jackery until the sun came out good, then let the sun do most of the work.

So help with some real world data. I have a Duracell Deep cycle AGM that states its good for 150-250 100% discharges. I thought staying above 50% prolongs the life, but any deep cycle AGM should be able to be fully discharged at least 100 times and even still capacity drops to 80% not completely kills them? Is this not true? Thanks.

Chrome I had AGM once too and had the same issue. Lithium is king. Pricey but worth it and no off gassing. The only problem with lithium is they don’t like cold weather so keeping them in a place they keep warmer or add a heating pad. I’m in the PNW currently, close to Vancouver but in the US side and can already see my lithium being finicky with the colder weather. Mine are under my van but would love to relocate inside. Good luck. Battle Borns are amazing btw.

My sailboat is super simple, 30A plug goes to a small 30A fuse box then 2 lines come out to 2 home electrical outlets. if i need to charge the two batteries i have i can use solar, run the motor or plug in the same battery charger you have. i also prefer the old trickle chargers over the noco ones too. the noco one didn't work well when my batteries were getting old. i guess it also helps that i always have access to shore power.

Hey Mate. Just out of curiosity...With your new Jackery 1000, why don't you just leave that hooked up to the fridge, so that less power draw is coming from your main AGM batteries? Just run an extra plug running from the solar panels straight into the Jackery, so that it is also getting charged if there is sun and you never have to worry about it running out. Just an idea, but would be a lot cheaper than re-doing your system with new lithium batteries, and at least you can make use of your new Jackery 1000. Love the video man, keep it up!

Add a DC-DC charger (installing my 12/12 30A Victron Orion Smart charger at the moment). Add another solar panel (or an external one that you can point at the sun, like a 100w foldable and an andersonplug or something). Get an shorepower plug (and a Type2 adapter for e-bikes ;)) so you can get a charge from EV-charge points (when there are no EV's connected ofcourse!), ohh and an automatic switch Or just suck it up and turn down the usage a bit... Good luck and you solve the shortages before the dark winter months...

@Endless_Skyway_Adventures

I recently purchased two battle born lithium iron phosphate batteries. Here’s the critical piece of the puzzle. With AGM once you reach float stage, the last little bit only trickles in so the last 10 percent takes hours. Not so with lithium. Full speed ahead till full. 1. Lithium can take more amperage at one time. Higher C rate. 2. Full speed ahead till full 3. Charges faster anyway 4. More usable amp hours 5. Last 10 years. Now, you don’t have to choose Put a switch on your solar output, add a second controller and use your AGM batteries too. Just add a second dc fuse block. You could dedicate one system to music and video, and the other to the house. Just be aware that the two battery chemistries use different charger settings.

Yep, shore power is just an extension cord when you break it down. Campers use a converter (opposite from an inverter). A converter is literally just a built in battery charger that can run nonstop. It charges the camper batteries and provides dc power for the camper. It's housed behind breaker panel. The secret to campers are the breaker panels. They have dc fuses (dc power from converter) and ac breakers (ac power from extension cord)

Hey chrome, here in Ohio USA, I have a hard wired battery charger under my hood all year round. Its great for cold winters keeping my battery ready to go. It also helps when I take the family camping at keeping a second battery and an inverter in my toolbox to rock a mini fridge if we can hook up at camp. I also use one that can be in my toolbox separately that supplies 25 amps. Neither of these require holes in the truck body, one hangs out in my toolbox with a 50 foot cord, the other is zip tied to my grille of the truck, quick and convenient easily removable if I sell it or have a failure.

This is good video for a lot of people to learn from your experiences. IMO, using LiFePO4 batteries is definitely the way to go if you can come up with the bucks. It is cheaper in the long run and MUCH less of a headache in terms of battery maintenance. If you really want another daily hobby, buy lead acid, and you can spend a bit of time every day worrying about and messing with your batteries. LiFEPO4 batteries have their own built in Battery Management System so the battery is MUCH better at protecting itself from bad conditions. Also, LiFePO4 batteries can typically be charged much faster than AGM/Lead Acid batteries, if you have the input power available. Also, if you plan on hooking up to campground power, be wary. First you may need an adapter plug to be able to physically connect. Second, many campgrounds have been wired by amateurs so it can be worthwhile to get an inexpensive outlet tester to verify the wiring. Third, campgrounds are often woefully underpowered. On a hot day, all the RVs run their air conditioners which can lead to a brownout condition for the whole campground. I you try and start something like an air conditioner with too low power availability, you run the risk of burning it out. They sell RV power protection devices but that is yet another box to buy and install. Beware RV power in campgrounds. There is lots of info on the web. I suggest getting educated before plugging in.

Hey Chrome, the last I read about solar and battery, you need a minimum of 2 to 3 solar panel per battery to maintain your charge, especially in Canada, the battery power depends a lot on your consumption, now that you have all these new toys, you will be pulling more juice out of them at a faster rate. Yes, you surely need more battery, but also more solar panels. Also, a little trick for you, did you try polishing your headlight with toothpaste? it does wonder on them, make them clearer and brighter after their clean of their yellow coating. Cheers!

Another great video in a long line of videos, so simple now you can charge at campgrounds that have a powered campspot... very cool, now you just have to hope one of those spots are available... just something different to worry about.... still your ban is the coolest one out there... maybe have ray outfitted just make your panels tilt, just sayin... then you'll get more power... stay weird and keep truckkn Chrome, give your travel buddy some love today... stay safe stay weird.... peace and good vibes to you...

Thanks to my efoy comfort 210 i i never run out of power, just bought 2 10 liter containers and hope they last the next 2 months. I also have the same problem with not enough sun this time of year. The freedom of cutting the cord is there but it cost.

Great purchase, you'll never go wrong with the Noco charger. I've been using them for years and they work well for my winter storage.

That little thing is pretty cool. I am about to buy a van. Don't need a ton of power, but would love the option to plug in when I can. I've added that to my plans. Thanks!

When you fitted that heater with a fan in it i knew it was a mistake. My advice would be do not have heating that requires electricity apart from the initial spark maybe.

Definitely need to upgrade to LED headlights too! NOCO make good stuff! You can’t go wrong. I own 3 of the GB70 jump packs. Definitely a must have! Love the videos brother 🤟🏼

Great video. I was concerned about your alternator burning out, but as some commented below you can install a higher amp alternator or an additional one. I am in the beginning stage where I'm researching what van to purchase (used) and then converting to camper. There is so much to learn and thank you for your videos and the others that comment, because I learn a Ton!

Time for a high amp alternator which will produce 250+ amp's and more battery. Shore power would be a good upgrade as well. Another option is an inverter/charger which will manage all batteries including shore power too

Bigger alternator won't work on his set up. AGM'S will only take so much charge for starters & his all in one Solar/Alternator combo controller he uses splits 50 amps max. 25/25 panels/alternator. He could put a 100k amp alternator 🤣 & it's only going to get 25 amps. If he had lithium set you would be correct with another controller set up. They will take as much charge as you send them. Not AGM'S though ✌😎👍

It’s always good to have multiple ways to charge your batteries. I’m getting ready to install a shore power plug on my van to avoid the stress of my batteries draining that low. I got a 400ah battery bank but it still worries me.

Get a couple lithium battle born batteries. Battery born service dept will help you get everything you need to run lithium. They are light and charge fast because of less resistance. Especially important when you have short bursts of sun between the clouds on the west coast. I have two in our Westy and we live in Kelowna. Best thing we ever did. You already have a great solar system. I'm hooked on your channel.
