So one of the things we were taught in kindergarten back then was to actually communicate with the rice itself. Looks like she was telepathically asking the rice if its enough water, its ready or not and all those stuff. 10/10 normal Vietnamese stuff

Your amazing wife surely knows how to choose pork loin. Those pieces of loin are called (by my mom) the “dragon heads” pork loin as they are the best in terms of quality. An outer ring of fat and held together by a piece of bone. Delicious!
@Toronto_Eugene

Back just before the pandemic, I visited Hanoi and there learned to make a steamed bitter melon dish in which the gourd is cut into chunks and the "rings" are stuffed with a tofu mixture. Exceptionally yummy! Back home in Toronto, the challenge is that bitter melon tends to packaged in plastic with several of them them, more than I can cope with. I'm going to try the stir-fry!

With bittermelon, you need to cook them for a long time, up to 1h, and it will taste less bitter. Try minced pork stuffed bittermelon soup, cook for at least 1 hour, it is amazing.

Typical broken rice refers to the tip of the grain that fractures during processing, along with partially broken pieces of the pointy tip. It absorbs water faster, resulting in a softer texture, but it's not as sticky as whole grain rice. I love eating broken rice with pork fat cooked with green onions, where the fat becomes nice and crunchy, along with shredded pork skin, and steamed ground pork and eggs

I like people who can eat bitter melon. None of my family can eat them, especially stuffed with ground pork. As no one can share with me, I’m so lazy to cook a bunch just for myself. Iykyk, you simply do not make one piece of that thing at a time.

normaly the "Canh" we have 2 main think: 1st is the vegetable or tubers, 2nd is protein (minced pork, chicken, beef, bone, shrimp...) When you cook only vegetables like that it will bland and lack of umami taste. If you only want vegetables better boid it than make to Canh (the only legend is "Rau muống" aka morning glory no need protein him self, just a dash of lime or "sấu" already perfect)

Isn't it strange that broken rice which was once eaten by poorer people is now more expensive! A bit like ripped jeans are more expensive than normal ones.
@daisyisblue
Сағат бұрын
Both cases, com tam and ripped jeans used to be defected goods, can not be sold as original price. Now the demand is higher, they have to "make" it broken/ripped, which are extra jobs added to production cost...
