Hey Monica!! I'm going through a similar process of job applications - the tip on getting a UK number for call forwarding was very helpful - could you share some resources you looked at for the voicemail service you used while job hunting? Thank you so much :) Your videos have been so helpful in my preparations to move to the UK!

I was curious if you ever figured out the UK Phone number. Trying to do the same thing

Now YMV allows Canadians to expend one more year

Hi Monica, thank you for the tips. I just have a question about the YMV. So when you apply for the visa (say June), and you tell them you are going on Sep 15 for example. Do they give you a window from June to Sep 15 that you can enter UK, and the visa starts latest on Sep 15, am I right? Can I go early? If I go in Aug, does it expire Aug after 2 years?

Ok I read reddit threads I think I figured out. The date I nominated in my application is the earliest date I can enter.

Yes! It would start on sep 15th. And it would expire on sept 15th of the third year regardless of the exact date you enter

@@MonicaXGuan Thank you Monica. I realized the date is very tricky because I will have enter the UK on the exact date that I nominated to maximize the length. It's hard to plan that far.

Hi Monica! I plan to move to the UK and want to get sponsored in the future (also currently working i marketing)~ how many years of work experience do you think I need for a company to sponsor me?
@MonicaXGuan
Жыл бұрын
So I came to the UK with about 5-6 years experience and I didn't find it too difficult. Other than years of experience I think you are manager level, it'd be easier to find a sponsored role. Doesn't necessarily need to be a people manager but more experience with marketing strategy.

Hi Monica! I’m in marketing also (digital marketing manager for retention) and plan to move to the UK next spring. Based on your experience, do you think 1 month of full force job hunting would be enough to secure something? I’m basically debating whether I should try to convince my current company to let me work 1 month remote while I settle myself in London! I’m from Vancouver and all of my job hunts have taken me on average 4-6 months to secure something good :(.

Hi Monica, Thanks for sharing your experience. It's really helpful to hear and helps visualise the pathway forward :) Could I ask one question please? `Did you need to leave the country when you switched from the Youth Mobility to the Skilled `worker visa? I'm at the stage where my employer will issue me with a certificate of sponsorship but I'll need to apply for the visa on my own. I'm on a the Youth Mobility from Australia and will soon start the application which I plan to use priority for :)

I'm so happy I found your channel! Thank you for your transparency as well. They extended the youth mobility visa to up to 35 years old so I'm gonna apply at the end of January when it begins!

That's smart, putting your address as UK, but what happens when you get to the interview part and they realize you're not actually in the UK
@MonicaXGuan

So I was in a flexible position where if I got hired and had 2 weeks notice, I could fly almost immediately haha. Also if could be that you normally live in the UK and was in canada visiting. So I think it's fine as long as you're transparent about your start date.

Thanks for the useful video! Do you know what happens when you pay for your own skilled worker visa and change your job halfway through (or lose the job and become a dependent)? Is the money lost?
@MonicaXGuan
Жыл бұрын
Not too sure actually! The application fee is def not refunded but I think the excess healthcare surchage might be refunded to the company and you pay for a new one with your next visa but i'm not 100% sure.

Hey Monica! Thank you sooo much for this video - it's super insightful and helpful. I have 2 months left on my visa and I'm panicking a bit. It's interesting that you were able to be so upfront about your need for a visa sponsorship. I'm finding that as soon as I mention it, I'm ghosted or told that the chances are very low for me to find a company willing to go through the process. I appreciate that it's good to be upfront so you're not wasting people's time. I'm so glad it worked out for you!

Oh no! I hope you find something in that time! 🙏 and yaa I also found that most companies if they currently don't sponsor anyone at the company or haven't thought about it for that role there's really no negotiating with them since it's quite a process to sponsor someone. 😅 I would suggest going through the list of companies that already have that sponsorship certificate and checking/cold emailing them to see if there's a role available in your line of work.

Hi Monica, great video as always ❤️ Just wanna share that my husband switched company last year while on the skilled worker visa and used the £500 priority service so it took us 5 working days to receive the decision! Also, I went to Toconoco last weekend (thanks to your suggestion in a previous video) and saw you there 😭 I wanted to come say hi but too shy lolz. Kinda regretted I didn't but then we crossed path again in a nearby shopping place 😆 (still shy then) 🥹 Have a great day!

Ou that's good to hear! And aw should have said hi! I know exactly the day you saw me haha but I also totally understand, I would find it weird to randomly approach someone as well. 😂
