The Mexican customs agents were really stingy with my visa the past few times I entered, giving me anywhere from 30-90 days (when typically you can get up to 180), so I had to do a quick "visa run" in order to spend longer in Mexico.
People do visa or border runs when their visa is about to expire but they'd like to stay longer. You basically have to leave the country, then reenter to renew your visa. This is sometimes frowned upon if the border agent knows what you're doing, but often it's not even noticed. Some people even cross a land border just to immediately reenter, but it usually helps if you spend a few days in the other country. (There are rules specific to each country about how long you must stay out of the country, how many days you can spend per year in that country, et cetera, so be sure you are informed about your own situation.)
I wanted to spend just a little longer in Mexico, so I flew to Antigua for a few days. I had been there before so I knew how beautiful it was, and honestly I wish I had longer to spend there. The architecture is amazing, and it's surrounded by volcanoes - one of which actively spews lava!
I did so much with what little time I had there, so here's Part 1 of my time in Antigua, and you'll have to subscribe so you can get notified for part 2!
