I borrowed a lever action 30/30 when I moved up to Taloyoak, Nunavut, Canadian Arctic ( Look it up!) - it was hunting heaven. This was before I could get my Canadian Firearms licence ( I am an Aussie). So I went out hunting with local Inuit ( Eskimo) - for Caribou. The 30/30 is a crap round beyond 200 yards - slow, under-powered and lazy, but under 200 yards - it has a big punch. I nailed a few with it. I also moved to another place - Cape Dorset on Baffin Island, and borrowed a 45/70 lever action for Polar Bear defense. That is a howitzer!...LOL. Only ever fired a few rounds for fun!. In the many years I lived up in the High Arctic - I harvested more Caribou, Fox, Seals, Geese, Whales etc with a Lee Enfield No 4 MK 3 ( I think) - it was such an excellent rifle. It was a 1952 model, and had never seen "service". - worked perfectly in Winter at -50c. The 10 round magazine was excellent. The 303 round was hard hitting and thwacked Caribou out to 600 yards. And the Winchester soft nosed rounds were cheap to buy. I used open sights. ( I did spend a bunch of time in the Aussie Army, but also started shooting from 12 y.o out on farms, so was a pretty good shot). Man, I missed a lot, but also nailed a lot. I wish I had got the scope mount and base etc, to put a scope on it. Then a few years on I saved up for a few months, and purchased an HS-Precision HTR in 308. Badger Ordnance rings and base, harris bipod, Leupold MK 4 Tactical Mildot scope. That was a heavy AF rifle - but holy mackerel - it shot 3/4 MOA with good quality ammo..... But the Enfield was superb, and the 30/30 did it's job too...... I'm back in the burbs of Sydney, Australia - but sooooo miss those years up there - the hunting was just unreal. After work I would get on my Skidoo ( snowmobile), rifle on back, and head out maybe 45-60 mins from the village, and find herds of Caribou. It was total freedom, hardly anyone - no regulations, no bureaucracy etc - just pure "LIVING". Those High Canadian Inuit communities are the absolute heaven places on Earth for people that love fishing/hunting/camping/exploring/freedom etc - pure heaven!!!! I'd go back up there tomorrow, but the boss won't let me....

Probably my favourite of all your rifles. One of the historical greats in industrial design: 128 years on and it's still a practical choice, not just a historical fancy. But aside from that it's also aesthetically nice; to look at, to hold, and to operate. I especially like how tactile, and obvious the movement is; you can see and feel what each step of the action does as you do it. It's not a marksman's rifle (though as you demonstrate, a marksman can do a lot with it), and it wastes nothing pretending to be one. Instead the design serves what it is: versatile, mobile, and fast - almost like something between a handgun and a long rifle. I wouldn't be surprised if the model 94 is still being produced and used in another 128 years.

I had that exact Rifle, it was given to me by a late uncle 40 years ago, he used it for deer hunting here in Northern Michigan, later on I traded it in on a couple shotguns because here in southern Michigan at that time we couldn’t use that rifle for deer hunting we could only use muzzleloading rifles and shotguns with slugs. But overall it was a beautiful gun and 100 yard shots were a piece of cake with that gun even with open sites.

That some good shooting old lefty.🙌 My Grand father became south paw after getting Polio as a young man in WW2 the found the cure for it just as it was starting to move into his chest! So as a Result he owned many Lever action‘s because they are much easier to operate left-handed than other rifles in his day! I have my Great Grandfathers Winchester model 1895 in 30/40 Krag it was my grandfather my uncles and now it is mine and maybe one day my daughters! But I can tell you it will never leave our family and it still shoots Dead as. The 1895 was the first Winchester lever action to shoot pointed bullets and smokeless gun pouter! It was all so the last leave action A John Browning patented after his passing! You really can’t go wrong with any Winchester lever her actions they all have stood the test of time a continue to do so! I would like to by another 1895 but chambered in Winchester 405 that was the same model that Teddy Roosevelt took on all of his safaris he called it his big medicine! As u no Stu my 30/30 is my most favourite and the 1st gun from my rifles that I will pick up……which sux if ur a rabbit😁 I’ve had it for probs nearly 30 yrs an will never sell it, shortly after I got it I fitted it with Williams peep sights as the original sights r a bit vague at best and fitting them vastly improved the accuracy 👍👍 Stay safe budd 🤙
