Thanks for sharing your kit. I have a lot of the same gear. And I'm happy to have found you and know I'm not the only woman who likes winter camping. 😆

Very complete list. You can tell you’ve been refining your list as you gain experience. Like that tip about putting a hand warmer with your batteries. I’ve had mine freeze on the way up/down Franconia Ridge. Looks like your cat wants to go camping with you (or at least help you unpack each time). 😊

Yeah, it's funny how sometimes a battery will be low/dead from the cold but revive after time in your warm pocket. But the hand warmer and insulated pouch do help keep them from tanking.

I have the same pack, it's like a wall. I can't see people around me easily. I use it when hot tent camping. Fun video, btw. Thanks for sharing.

I’m new to hiking and backpacking. I’ve watched all your videos and learned so much. The last warm spell I stayed at Barnes Field which I learned about in one of your previous videos. Many thanks!

I’ve found your videos recently. I really like them and your demeanor while on trips. I also solo hike a lot in the Whites. Your videos are great for while I am working, but wishing I were out in the mountains.

Thanks! It's cool to experience the act of learning and capture and convey that in video format. When I look back at my older ones, I am amazed how much I didn't know that I didn't know.

That was great thanks for sharing. Loved the cats making appearances. Great comparison with the sleep systems with your husband. I used to be able to sleep with just a foam pad but now I need an air mattress to not wake up with a stiff back. You may want to add in some nail clippers to your first aid kit, they come in very handy sometimes.

Oh, thanks. That is a good tip. I always check my nails before going out but I can imagine various problems could arise where no other tool could be as helpful. I will add one!

Love the pack. I started with Camptrails external frame pack and used it for years, never failed. Still use it occasionally.

I never even considered an external frame pack until wearing one. Then I wondered why they aren't equally popular. I like both types!

Well done!! Appreciate the comparison between preferences of sleep systems at the end. Which stuff sack do the cats go in and do you take one or two? 🐱😉

Ha ha... the cats, yeah... They are characters. They enjoy coming out when I work in the garden but they zoom back into the house as soon as I do. They do like tents, however. Whenever we air out the tents in the backyard, the cats are quick to go inside of them. If the doors are zippered shut, the cats go UNDER the tents!

you got this. something that i tell others to help them remember the signal is to write it on their gear itself weither its the head lamp or the flashlight itself. i teach them the 1- 2 -1 rule you keep your light on and you use your hand to cover it. and move your hand away from the light itself to make the signal instead of turning the light on and off itself. stay safe out there happy trails!

.. Nice loadout ... gear changes over time ,, your carrying what works foy YOU ... Especially in winter ,, you have to be warm and comfortable or there won't be a second hike/camp ... over time ,, gear choices get more expensive but time and observation helps to make choices .... once I find what I need/want ,, weight does not play a role ,, it is what it is ..... Have also used a double sleeping bag system in past ,it works ,, but would never NOT use an air pad ,, winter or summer ,,, old bones and joints need the cushion ...

Yes, that's right - personalization is the way to go. I agree on the air mat and feel surprised some people don't need one.

I'm in the market for a winter tent. What brand / model tent you are using?
@RachelWhelton
5 ай бұрын
Slingfin Crossbow. It is a great tent but I think I could have gotten by with a much less great tent. I could probably have done this whole winter with my old summer tent. However - now that I have this great tent, I love it. Having a very warm sleeping bag is MUCH more important than the tent.

@@RachelWhelton Slingfin is so underrated! Check out their NFT tarp if you're in the market for a backpacking tarp. I use if for common area when backpacking; a place to sit, and cook, and chill out, especially if the weather is foul.

@@GetUpTheMountains Good to know. I ended up ordering the footprint to the Crossbow tent with the intention to occasionally use that like a small tarp, perhaps to cook under or wait out some rain. The tent is packed as we speak and preparing for the next trip!
