Hi there, I'm voting for the black ponte for your capsule. 😀 Mostly because I think you'll be surprised at how many times you'll pull it out. I also am a mostly Navy colour, but I find I love to have some black pants 👖 in my wardrobe. It changes things up completely when paired with red, ivory and camel and will look great with your new black shoes.

I suggest you make the Parker in the Ponte you already own. Consider them a toile. Then decide if you want navy ponte too!

Since you have the black ponte, I would make the black pants. There on you bottom half, plus you said your getting black sneakers. And matching navy and black is in now. You will be surprised how often you reach for your black pants. I know, I was. Enjoy sewing and have a wonderful holiday!

Oh this winter capsule is going to be awesome!! I think it's always good to have a pair of black pants for those 'just in case' situations! With your shacket they will look great and being that they will be a distance away from your face they will look great with the amazing colours you use in between! That Sorento is going to be soooo good! Can't wait to see it!

I usually buy a ready knitted cardigan. Don’t why I haven’t thought of sewing one up before 🙄 your such an inspiration on style, colours and patterns to use. Love watching your videos. Thank you so much! The cardigan is the Harper Cardigan by Sinclair Patterns and it is free! The fabric is a sweater knit (a true red that goes just a tad warm) from Minerva that, unfortunately, is currently sold out of all the colors.

The capsule wardrobe is a completely new concept for me but makes total sense. I bet it makes getting ready so much easier. I am definitely going to check out that Harper cardigan pattern. Can’t wait to see what the pattern release is in January.

I’d go for black too. A stylist told me that black and very dark navy can be worn alternatively or together as the colour picks up the cast of whatever you’re wearing 😉

Use the black because you already have it. It's less wasteful and better for the environment. The black is far away from your face and probably won't interfere with your color pallet. Thanks for the video!

I agree with the black ponte pants! I don’t wear black often but I get a lot of use from basic black pants. Love your ideas for your winter wardrobe! You should consider that lovely camel button front skirt you made awhile ago. It looked so nice on you. I don’t recall what pattern you used🤷🏻♀️ I think it was part of a fall/winter sewing module.

I loved this. I really like the whole concept of planning a wardrobe where everything coordinates with everything else. It’s very calming. I had my colors done eons ago, and discovered at that time that I’d been wearing the right colors all along. I was not terribly surprised by that, but it was still very validating. My colors are pretty much the same as yours, but I confess that I do sometimes wear colors that are not prescribed, like black. I can’t help myself sometimes. I don’t know how much difference it really makes, but there are cool blacks and there are warm blacks, and I don’t typically gravitate towards cool black. Same with red. Cooler reds make me look sickly, but the reds at the other end of the spectrum light up my complexion. When you had your colors done, did you discover that you were wearing many “wrong” colors, or was it more like tweaking what colors you intuitively gravitated towards?
@TomKatStitchery

I completely agree about blacks not all being the same. I was completely shocked when I had mine done. I wore a ton of cool muted pastels which is about as opposite as I should have been wearing 😂. My eyes look blue instead of gray for the first time since wearing my colors. It’s so crazy!

Hey Whitney! Thanks for another great video! I love listening to the Everyday Style podcast. I found it because of you. Question about the cotton/spandex jersey from Stylemakers. I've used it a few times and just not been happy with the results. In one case the neck band for my crew neck t-shirt stretched and ruffled after washing & wearing a few times. In the other case, the hem of the t-shirt rolls - can't get it to iron down! (The second is a v-neck and doesn't have the same neck ruffling issue.) I'm an intermediate seamstress, so I think I must be missing something. Any helpful hints?? Everybody raves about the fabric on line, but I'm about ready to give up!!
@TomKatStitchery
2 жыл бұрын
Usually the neckline ruffling is due to the neckband being a touch too long for the opening. I like to make sure my neckbands are 85% the length of the neckline to get the best fit for most fabrics. If I'm using something really stretchy I'll drop down to 80%. Because it of this, I often don't use the neckband piece that comes with the pattern. Rolling hems are, unfortunately, a by project of single jerseys. One thing I've found to fix that is to use the SewKeyse double sided tape in my hems. It gives just a bit of stabilization in that area and helps the hems to lay flat even after washing.

Please be careful with black…I believe too much is going to make you look “brass-y” whereas the navies and teals soften your skin and hair tones. I’m certain that is why you landed in the copper-spring category (black is just very harsh.) You look fantastic in today’s episode - love the Harper card i (both fit and color) with the navy/cream concord tee. Such a classic combo! I wish to make a suggestion for a very nice Ponte knit that I have returned to many times and feel it would be an excellent weight for the Style Arc Parker Ponte pants: Harts Fabrics (a family owned business in California) has a 67% Rayon/28% Nylon/5% Spandex Ponte that I love. It took me a long time to find it and I hope they never discontinue the line but do wish they’d add new colors. This fabric sews up like a dream AND launders like one too. It is heavyweight, and maybe not what you’re looking for but worth the try. I think your Winter capsule is going to be fun, figure flattering, and oh so put together! I love the idea of pulling from you closet for a few items as well. P.S. I’ve never thought of buying myself jewelry and then handing it to my husband to “gift” to me! That’s a new one, and I’ve been married 45 years! I usually put together a little “shopping booklet” with EXACT photos of each item, the shop where it can be purchased, and the prices. You and I are obviously not known for our subtlety, are we? 😆

Half my wardrobe is black, as a musician, but even though it is not in my Autumn colour palette I find it adds drama to other colours.
