Skateboarding Injuries is definitely a skater’s worse nightmare.
Heard one of my friends saying the other day that injuries are like skate tax, at some point we all have to pay.
This videos is not about showing you nasty slam and horrible fall but instead is about dealing with the two most common types of skate injuries and how to initially treat them. If you, like myself is injuries right now, this video is about, accepting a temporary defeat, taking a break to digest what happened and specially what to do to stay focus on your road to recovery.
First of all, there is no progression without going a little over your comfortable zone. It’s also what give us that adrenaline boost and the amazing sense of achievement when you land something for the very first time. On the other hand injuries also happens when you least expect and doing the simple things you used to do all the time.
Unfortunately, sometimes it also comes with a price.
In this video I cover the first line of treatment for Strains and Sprains, which are two of the most common types of injuries we could come across whist skating and just to be clear, these are the initial treatment for minor injuries, anything more serious should be checked by your doctor.
For both, Strains and Sprains, the treatment is exactly the same and for that you use RICE. Which is a acronym for:
R - REST Basically do not continue to put force on the area - Give it a rest.
I - ICE Apply a cold to prevent swelling.
C - COMPRESS compress comfortably to support the area but never too tight.
E - ELEVATE keep it raised on a cushion as much as possible.
For most of us skateboarding is a hobby on which we love and we do it whenever we want and we often take it for granted. Now, not being able to do just that is heartbreaking.
The main point here is how we handle it can make a difference between a good comeback or not.
