My worst travel experience happened in France. We traveled with our camper, searching for a camping site to stay overnight. Late in the afternoon I reached a site that was recommended by an official tourist guide. The moment I wanted to check in, some locals pointed to the German licence plate and immediately started pelting stones on the camper. My wife and my two year old daughter went into total shock. I reversed and drove all night until I had left this unfriendly country. This was 40 years back and I never again visited France. I will not grant them a second chance for throwing stones on me.

I can relate. My wife was on bedrest when she was pregnant with our twins, but not overseas. She was in the hospital for 3 months. I was hauling our 2 other kids back and forth between home and the hospital about 30 minutes away to visit. We were homeschooling at the time. The hospital was nice enough that the older kids could stay in her room and do school with my wife while I went to work for a few hours. Was pretty stressful. They finally decided she was far enough along for her to do bedrest at home. She was home for 3 days, when she went to her next OB appointment and was told to go back to the hospital and we had the twins that night. April 29th. 🙂

What I am curious to learn about is: What was your experience in pursuing your PhD? What inspired you to pursue your PhD, as well as, to go the country you went to? Do you have any useful pieces of advice for anyone who is either currently studying, or considering going for a PhD? What are the benefits of going for a PhD? I'm originally from Italy but I'm currently studying for my master's degree in Vienna and I'm thinking about possibly going for a PhD after my graduate studies but I'm not exactly sure when would be the best time to do so after getting my master's. She made a couple of calls at 9 pm on a Saturday night, got off the phone and said I had an appointment at 10 pm in the doctor’s office. Total cost for visit and antibiotic? $65. My worst experiences.Which I must stress are nothing like as bad as you've had. Glad everything worked out for you and your family. London Heathrow security at Christmas, nearly 3 hour wait, abusive and rude staff. Roasting hot in the airport, no where to sit. Can't drink fluids as they require you to remove all liquids before joining the queue. Abysmal. Then 2 and a half hours waiting for immigration at JFK. Literally 2 agents on and a full flight 777 of passengers wanting to get through. Again, no where to sit, oven hot and tired from flight. Nearly getting mugged by 2 guys in NYC walking back from Times Square late at night to my hotel in 2004. A recent trip at Christmas just, homeless guy tries to mug me for my camera in Hells Kitchen. The kicker though was coming down with an awful flu/cold bug that laid me out for 5 days in my hotel room. So I lost half of my trip in NYC. That was the worst.

from my personal experience, I have had no issues going to the places I have. I have been to the Netherlands 3x, Scotland, England, and Romania. My best guess is that places that have high rates of domestic violence and gender equality issues may not be ideal, but I'm sure it depends on the situation. South Africa, for example, has an extreme femicide problem. Of course I would love to see Joburg if the opportunity presented itself, but it's not high on my list.

Belfast, the Titanic Museum, I was in a rush to see the tender on display and failed to realize I was stepping off a curb. "Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!" Jeans took it like a champ, skinned my knees, and that was the only physical damage. Jeans were fine, cell phone in my hand never touched the ground. A few folks did get to hear some quality swearing. Got up, dusted myself off and went on with my day. For the record, you can spend an entire day on the Titanic Museum and worth it. I have also been up to the mostly forbidden sixth floor. I also missed out on going to Dundee when in Edinburgh, as I srarted feeling lousy the day before. Warm room, snuggly bed and lots of warm/hot liquids and the following day I was right as rain. In 2015 I had a hotel room and ticket for San Diego Comic-con. got a touch of food poisoning (I think. chills and shakes, nausea, and profuse sweating. Damn near missed the panel and autograph signing by Congressman John Lewis. I was moving kind of slow because I was tired, but I made it. Like a number of years before, a couple of cold cervezas set me straight. Every trip I take I fully expect something to go sideways.

My wife nearly drowned on our honeymoon in Turkey. Been on a speedboat trip but when we returned couldn’t get the boat near the beach and had to swim back. My wife was in the water near the boat when a big wave lifted the boat in the air and when it hit the water my wife disappeared. Thought the boat had hit her. Got her back to shore but she was out cold. The boat hadn’t hit her but the force of the water when the boat came down had knocked her out. She was fine, came round without any need for cpr. Only thing was later in a restaurant she felt groggy, put her head forward and water came out of her nose! The a separate issue a few days later, she was off to hospital in an ambulance when she had an accident on the swimming pool slide and thought she had broken her wrist. Luckily the X-ray showed she hadn’t, just sprained

I'm sorry that you had some bad experiences usually related to health issues. I am glad most of the issues were resolved well. This is completely unrelated. However, I can't find the answers on any other travel videos. I know that you use Eurail passes with some frequency, and perhaps you would know the answer. I want to validate my Eurail pass upon landing in Frankfurt, Stuttgart or Munich, depending on connections and rates. I can't find a Deutsche Bahn Reisezentrum in these airports. Can one validate the Eurail pass in the airports, or must one first buy a local commuter train ticket to get to the center of town to reach the ticketing office of DB? It used to be that DB had ticket counters in those airport, but it seems they have all been replaced by automated ticket machines instead of staffed windows.

Ahh…New York! My 2nd favorite American City! I am glad Liam is okay but for those of you who are expecting your first and are worried that your baby will come early, medicine improves daily and after a buddy of mine developed a different kind of ventilation for tiny babies, they do much better! Before that ventilator was developed, I gave birth to my son at 27 weeks. Not as early as they thought they were looking at but early enough, for certain. The first year was tough but he is a burly 39 year old man, a father of two who has a small farm in Michigan and you would never know he was a preemie. However, he is missing the part of his brain where one typically develops the skill to cease communicating after receiving certain cues. He doesn’t have a hole in his brain, he is simply blind to the cues. He wears a baseball cap that states “I am talking and I can’t shut up” and those with similar disabilities tend to flock together. You see them everywhere, and don’t even realize. I spot them most often in small local hardware stores and breakfast diners. I am not convinced that it has any relevance to his premature birth and could be a genetic disorder. My father had something similar and never met a stranger while my comments get longer as I age. So don’t panic, there are ways to stop labor when it comes too early and ensuring that you get frequent prenatal checks will help catch complications early.
