I spent some 20+ years of my life writing and producing both public and commercial television here in the States, and this, sir, is as fine a piece of filmmaking as I have seen in quite some time. I, too, am a scooter rider -- a pair of Vespas -- and like one fellow who commented below, I'm now 70, and I ride solo (my partner doesn't ride). There may will be a Helix in my future. (Why else would I have fallen down the KZitem Helix rabbit hole?!). You take care of that beautiful, faithful yellow scooter, Julian, 'cause she sure took care of you. Thanks for a most enjoyable video.

Julian - what a great and inspiring movie. I stumbled across it by accident, having dived down a Honda Helix wormhole. I watch a lot of motorcycle video (including many of my own), and yours is one of the most enjoyable I've encountered. You really deserve far more exposure than your 2.4k KZitem views indicates. Perhaps some TV station could air it - it's that good IMHO. Good luck with whatever you are doing, but if you're not making movies (and riding the Helix) it's the world's loss. Stay well. Nick.

Nick what a sweet comment. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. I am definitely not going to stop making films:) just starting to take this KZitem thing more seriously and see where that takes me. As for the Helix, it's waiting for me back in Canada. I miss that thing!! Cheers, Julian

I'm in the states down in Ohio, a few years back I picked up a white 1987 Helix. The Honda dealer here says mine was actually made for the Canadian market, the dash panel is labeled "Fatten" instead of Helix and the odometer reads in kilometers. They claim they are rare and they hadn't seen one in person. That said, it's a Helix and they can get around! I'm not sure how many "Fattens" were made or much of anything else.
@ScottWiecenski
26 күн бұрын
The dash panel reading "Fatten" means it was replaced at some point with a Chinese knockoff panel. This is a common part to replace as the speedo plastic gets foggy and unreadable from sunlight over the years. I have an '87 Helix and I had to replace mine as well. Mine reads "Gongbei" but I have seen the "Fatten" ones before. kzitem.info/news/bejne/l5t-rmmgeoCeg6Q

i got a beatass 1986 junker helix for 450$ about 6 years ago, mainly as a joke because it was so weird looking and i work at a biker bar and thought it would be funny having it parked amidst all the harleys. the joke was on me because i fell in love with the thing and ride it all the time and am now fully in the helix cult. the reliability of these machines is legendary, they are immortal.

Massive props, bro, and thanks for sharing it with us! Big hug!

Don't be afraid. I have owned several small motorcycles, but my Honda Helix (yellow like in the video) is the easiest one to ride. Even though I am only 5 ft 6 inches tall, both feet fit flat on the ground. There are no gears to shift - just twist the throttle and it goes. The weight is low to the ground so easy to balance. It has enough power to easily keep up with in town traffic and can be ridden on the highway up to 70 mi/h. It is the ideal scooter. Good luck!

Wonderfully put together video. You have captured the essence of motorcycle touring at it's heart....wonderful solitude, the feeling of self dependency, and the appreciation of the motorcycle itself and the wonderful roads ridden. At 80 now, having toured for over 65 years with several million km's under my belt, this video brings back fabulous memories of my own trips in years past. Although I still ride, I am restricted to day trips only due ot my wife being somewhat infirm, and it's good to watch this and have those old feelings come back. Thank you so much for your video. It's not the size of the bike but the quality of the ride that counts....

@Julian Thomas when you start in one topic on youtube, and somehow, the algorithm takes you nearly to a subject that's vastly different from your intended search.. aka.. the other side.. not to be confused with some derogatory statement but a welcome experience down another rabbit hole of hobbies and such.. which after watching this video, I have been immersed in the topic and am currently trying to find a classic scooter to rebuild and enjoy. So when I land on a great video experience far from what my initial interests are, I kindly let the content creator know that somebody outside of the intended audience is watching and loving the content. I hope this is concise enough.

Great video Jillian! I've lived in north central Maryland all of my life and I've had just about every different size of motorcycles over a period of 40 years up to 1500 & 1800cc Honda Goldwings until 2004. I stopped riding for 14 years then bought a 1996 Helix in 2018 with 22,000 miles which I fully restored mechanically back to showroom condition. I only drive it occasionally 100 to 150 miles round trip out to the mountains in the western part of my state along scenic parallel to the freeway back roads to totally enjoy it and the slower paced experience. I'm 70 now so the Helix is all that I need as I don't miss at all struggling with the heavy almost 900 pound bikes anymore compared to the 350 pound Helix, or the clutching, shifting, etc, and for the amount of riding that I do the Helix is perfect. I've never even taken any of my motorcycles further than a 400 mile round trip all of those years, but I commend you for making your long sucessful journey on the Helix and sharing the experience with everyone.👍👍👍

I had the same model and colour from 2007 and rode out ftom Ohio to Nevada via U.S. Route 66. Got hammered hy continual head and cross winds that twisted my too tall, eye level windscreen I’d just installed. Didn’t consult my mechanic, so the carbeurator wasn’t jetted correctly for the altitude, which drastically reduced its power and speed. And blew the back tire out at 4,100 miles. He took me to see his trailer full of tires and told me my tirecwas only goid under losd for 4,000 miles, then he asked me how far I got on it. If you aren’t a competent mechanic, seek advice from one.
