they really underscored her for her amañar, she wasn’t piked, she was stretched as possible can, knees and toes were glued and she didn’t cross her feet, only deduction i can find is the landing and even then it was clean.....I have a feeling i know why they underscored her but yeeeeeah, they tried her for sure.

I agree that she sometimes lacks basic form like her backhand spring on beam. But she was one of the most consistent gymnastics, with only one fall all of 2019, which is even more consistent that Simone when you count her fall and out of bounds.

I am glad she’s going for it but honestly unless she fixes the execution errors she has had for years, her E score will keep her off the team. For example, I have never seen her actually be completely straight in her first tumbling pass. In fact, at times, it looks way too much like her second pass which actually is tucked. She could fix this either by figuring out to keep her body straight in the air or switching out her pass to avoid deductions.

@pedropelaez

Too many better all around gymnasts for her to make the team: Biles, Lee, McCallum, hurd, dicello, wong, and McCusker. And then throw in Memmel with her comeback and it is not likely for her to make the team. She will need people to be injured. Team comes first and that means you need strong all arounder (I.e. you need to trust they can hit a medium/high score on ALL events). 🤷♂️🤷♂️

I really want her to make it too! She was an alternate the last time, I really would love to see her do it. Yes, there may be better but it's important to see these athletes as humans and no commodities... the Olympic games traditionally were about more than medals, they were about pushing the limits of human condition and Mykayla has certainly done that. I hope everyone can wish the best for her no matter what.

@@pedropelaez So crazy how much this changed before the olympics. I would've agreed with you in 2019. However, Morgan got injured and downgraded, Riley got injured and only did one event, DiCello wasn't even really in the running, and Mykayla went to Tokyo

She’s putting together the “hardest bar routine in the world” of all people she’s the last who should be doing that. If she wants in the team she should do what aly did and compete a routine on bars that’s easier and minimizes deductions instead of just throwing the hard skills.

Hard difficulty I’ll give her that, the floor music is piercing to my ears. Just not a fan of her. She steps on flexed feet and doesn’t have 180 or better leaps. Those are things I would expect out of a level 7 gymnast. The lack of flexibility and form issues just are enough for me to look over her.

If we are being consistent with the way that the timing of a twist relates to its definition as a skill, I think there could be a case made that this is a separate and unique skill. But, for whatever reason it's being called a Cheng. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@lb7617 She has to twist early, she get no amplitude and it's the only way she can get the rotations in. Look at her Amanar. She twisted early off the table there, too and still barely got the rotations in. It's the same on floor. She gets the rotations by virtue of having quick rotations because she barely gets any height on her tumbling.

She needs it to fulfill the floor code requirement "at least one front acro skill" Actually there are 4 requirements on every apparatus (except for vault, where there is just one). And every requirement you fail to have is 0.5 deduction, so you kind of have to be carefull about that :)
