Most amusement park accidents are from people being stupid and not following the rules! Really sad!

My friend was Scarlet, the girl hanging down by her leg, we were 12 years old. It was awful and so scary for them, she was in the cart with her sister. I remember her showing us her injury on her leg at her birthday party. It was pretty tore up.

@@JoeBobTarheel Summer of 1991. We live just south of Myrtle about 30 miles away. I remember when they took the Ferris wheel down after this but the park stayed opened for years. The pavilion is long gone now though they closed it about 2006 I think and now it’s just an empty field with a zip line type thing and the country music fest is held there in the summers now. It was the heart of Myrtle Beach and unfortunately the blvd has died and become a nasty place full of crime and drugs. In the 90s growing up this was such a fun and safe place to go to. It’s really sad how it’s gone downhill there now.

@@julesservantofjesus972 She’s great. Wife, mother and grandmother now. Her sister is great as well, she got hurt pretty badly in the accident but fully recovered as well. I was there that night. I was 11 years old at the time. I was on a ride next to the ferris wheel ( I want to say it was the old timey cars you drove around the track) and started hearing the screaming and I saw the young man fall tipping the girls cart and hitting her and then him fall to the ground. This was a tragedy and I feel for those families that were affected.

There was no real training in my opinion. I was a British exchange student at the time . I am in the UK now. One of the cars from that little Ferris wheel 🎡 nearly hit me on the head as I was getting kids out of the cars after their ride had finished. The brakes were like a European car hand break which at times can be loose even when pulled back.

I moved here to Myrtle Beach in 87. My sister & her family came down that weekend and we were at the Pavilion when this happened. We almost got on the farris wheel but my sister wanted to go on another ride first & then the farris wheel. It's horrible that the boy lost his life but when we heard people screaming, the young girl was hanging from the bars. How traumatic that had to have been for her.

Big Eli (pronounced eeleye, i sounds like the long i sound). It was made by the Eli Bridge company which I'm not sure is in business anymore. Knoebel's in PA had a Big Eli, I rode it during my first visit there in 1992.
