Located in the northern part, on the west coast of Kefalonia, about 29 km north of Argostolis, the capital of the island, Myrtos is one of the most beautiful beaches and bays of Greece and the world. The beach attracts with the color of the sea water which varies from dark blue to milky blue and turquoise. As is the famous Navagio Beach (Bay) in the nearby island of Zakynthos, Myrtos is also a "pocket" beach (Bay), i.e. a beach located between two headlands that go deep into the sea. This isolation gives it its own evolution and indeed the beach is in a continuous transformation, with the addition of gravel, rocks or even landslides from the high limestone slopes that border it. Especially the northern slope, hundreds of meters high and very steep, on which the viewpoint from which these images are recorded is also the source of gravel and rocks that can reach the beach. The instability of the slopes is accentuated by the generalized karstification, there is also a submerged cave at the southern end of the beach, but also by the high seismicity of the area. However, Myrtos is a magnet for tourists, many of whom descend the winding road from the south-eastern slope to the beach which is about 800m long and at most 100m wide. It consists mainly of gravel, but the central area and the one towards the water is sandy. High waves, rapid deepening and currents make it not very suitable for children. On the beach you can find a terrace, toilet and sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. Also, in the cold season, in the area of Myrtos Bay, the phenomenon of water "boiling" can occur, attributed to a temperature difference of more than 20°C between the warm sea water and the cold air.
