First thing i though about the facts: is it possible that a normal Audi 80 was easier to import than a RS2? It is a great looking replica, but it isn't an original one. Great job Jamie

For the USA, no, this was imported through Germany to New York last year, so either model is 100% the same. If it was VIN swapped for tax evasion in another country previously, that could be a viable explanation but in my opinion that wouldn’t be legal for multiple reasons - tax fraud and VIN tampering seem like the obvious ones to start :-)

Updates, to keep you updated : 1) George @ Audi Club North America got word back from Audi AG at 6am this morning, confirming the information that I show in the video. The build date, color, and model specification are all ‘correct’ for the VIN. 2) Sotheby's called this morning at 10am - the car was a no-sale, and the listing was returned to the seller after it didn't sell. Their website shows it as sold, but it was not sold through their company. They have no addendums showing on their system from during the auction.

Sorry but for me it is not logical that the dealer did not notice it. There are 3 ways of identification. Chassis number on the plaque in the engine compartment, A-pillar on the passenger side and the data sticker in the trunk. AND where was the original AUDI Service BOOK? inside this book you would see the rigth number too. If i would buy a car like this , i would check all the important things...even the Service History!! we talk about 85 000 Dollars not 20 000.And worst case....if you need parts for the car ...or you need a service...you never would get the right parts!! Audi always has different chassis numbers for the RS models ..... today they are WUA /WCA.. and normal WAU... Sorry for my bad english 😁😁 GREAT Video ..thanks and greetings from switzerland

A car is way more than the sum of it's parts, so even if it has all the RS2 trinkets, it's not an RS2 and shouldn't be bought, sold or called one. That being said, I love the story(more than the sum of it's parts) behind it and would love to own it, but my bank won't allow it unfortunately. Big ups to whoever built it though, you had everyone except Jamie fooled.

Jamie - thanks for bringing this to light, it helps keep integrity front and center in the car community. I believe you are being too nice, this situation was caused by wrongdoing and misrepresentation by someone along the way. And it’s not just an opinion that this isn’t a real RS2, it’s officially and legally not a genuine RS2 and needs to be represented as a tribute or replica. If it was real, all these sellers wouldn’t be tucking their tails and giving refunds. Thanks again!

Did anyone notice that on the ARGE plate on the firewall it has the ABF (later S2 engine) stamped on it. So is that a total of 3 engine numbers linked to this car? The ABA on the build sheet, the ABF on the ARGE and I guess an ADU on the engine? The ARGE and VIN swap for Greece makes no sense also. Because the “Doctor” would have wanted the Chassis to come under 2000cc (due to Greece car taxes), not the ABF’s2226cc.
@ThaMythbuster

Not a real RS2 if it doesn't have the VIN, but "pretty much the same as an RS2". In my mind, someone crashed their RS2 enough that all the good parts survived but the chassis was toast, so they bought another A80 and used that to rebuild the RS2. Would be interesting(and easy) to use a paint-thickness-measurement thingy and see if any panels were original blue paint. Perhaps the doors and either front or rear end are completely original RS2 panels. If some panels haven't been painted, it's possible the crash happened very early on in the car's life, before the blue faded.

There are couple of Eastern European countries where stolen cars and damaged cars would end up getting rebuilt or reshelled because of cheap labor. The only real problem with this is it being marketed as a genuine RS2. It's a very good clone and with that being said it's a great car to buy and drive and enjoy! I wonder if maybe it is an original RS2, but something happened to the original vin. Something that would have prevented the car from being legal; ie. VIN marked as stolen, marked as for destruction, tied to something malicious. It would make sense to swap an Audi 80 VIN, as it would be very cheap to acquire it. I am unsure how this theory would justify the red paint though. I just don't see someone taking all that time and money to convert a poverty spec into an RS2. There would be an insane amount of fabrication needed, and tons of rare parts. Maybe one day the person who did this will come out with the full story, but until then we can only guess.
@Christian-Andrew

Looks to me like someone wanted an RS2 in the USA long before the 25 year rule and stripped an RS2 from outside the US and put the parts on a US spec VIN/shell to make it US legal. Look up "RS2 America" on the RS2 forum some else did just that with another car.

This car was imported to the USA on May 28, 2020, and was eligible to come in 2018, so although your point is very valid, I don't think it's the explanation for this chassis. We also saw that the car was in the Netherlands in 2015(ish) so was definitely in Europe around that time. :-)
