Deuteronomy 16:17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee. I know of very wealthy people who have NEVER tithed (seriously) and know of very poor people who tithe faithfully and struggle and have lack in almost every area of their lives. My prayer group often discusses whether or not our lives are prewritten by God.

Tithe is not paid or given so that you will be financially blessed. Tithe is paid or given as being obedient to God. Your financial status is based on you as an individual and what you do to change your financial status; through education, training, entrepreneurship etc. When you do your part as a person and if you are faithful and obedient to God, He will bless you through your actions, not by what you pay. God does not need your money, you are Blessed through your act of obedience.

To support the work of God is a must for Christians but it must be according to scriptures as in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. There is no tithe or tithing for the priesthood. The priesthood in the old covenant did not pay tithe and for a parallel in the new covenant the royal priesthood (the church) is not asked to pay tithe. If Jesus Christ is not in it don’t practice it. Jesus Christ never asked the church to pay tithe.

There was actually more than one tithe. Yet church leadership only teaches/ promotes one type. This is not the full explanation pertaining to tithing. I wish people would actually read everything and speak on it in its context. Both the people and the priesthood were judged in the book of Malachi. Tithe is actually for a nation. It’s for the less fortunate. Widows, fatherless and the poor. Its basically welfare. Food drives and all that. It’s was also for the Levi’s cause they were the only ones that did not own land. In the book of dueteronomy it tells you what tithing is really about. It’s also to do with gifting someone to honour them or bless them for whatever reason. As a thank you for example. This practice purpose was to ween the nation Israel into operating the way they should with each other. This practice is a foreshadowing of the golden rule (in the New Testament) which is love thy neighbour as thyself. That is why the Lord will say depart from me for I do not know you because I was hungry and you didn’t feed me. I was naked you didn’t clothe me, I was thirsty and you didn’t offer me a drink etc… but for those who did these things were accepted into the kingdom of God with open arms. Tithing is a lot deeper and it’s honestly a disservice to compare tithing to spiritual currency. Money is nothing but the condition of the heart is everything to God.

In the New Testament tithing is mentioned 3 times, Matthew 23:23, Hebrews 7:4, Luke 18:12. Tithes was never money in the bible times. The KJV of the Bible is clear. At no time did it turn to money. The tithing you are speaking was instigated under the Law Of Moses. The tithes was produce and livestock from the land of farmers. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law Gal 3:13-14. When Jesus was on the earth the Law was still in place. Gal:4:14. He made reference to tithing to the pharisees who were obligated to tithe under the law. Notice His referenced herbs and mint etc not money. Also more importantly tithes was a system set up to provide for the Levites back in the day under the Law. The Law of Moses has been abolished. Listen I get the church needs money to pay bills but Paul instructed the church to give freely 2 Corinthians 9:7. God has given us in the the new testament church the liberty to decide what to give. We are free. Law is bondage. Further scriptural reading Leviticus 27:30-33, Deut. 12:17, Duet. 14:23, 28, 2 Chron. 35:1-6 Nehemiah 10:37 and 12:44, Matthew 23:23 and Luke 11:42. Shalom

If you watch what Jesus said in the NT, He said the pharisee and religious people tithe in both cash and all, and leave others undone, this you ought to have done without leaving the other undone. The bible stated that Abraham gave 1/10 *once.* Tithing was for the Levites who did not work. God commanded the Levites not to work. God did not command pastors/leaders not to work. Some pastor are richer than their congregants. Giving, not tithings, is a principle that results in blessing. Act. 20: 35. Act 10:4. We should never give to receive from God. That was not the purpose of tithing or giving. I don't condemn tithing, it can be used as a tool to keep us committed to the work of the ministry; and for us to be in covenant with God regarding our finances. Act 2: 44-25 & 4: 32-35 is where our heart should be. We can fall in the trap of honoring tradition and ignoring each other, like the story of the good samaritan in Luk. 10: 25-37.

Also, she’s wrong about paying a 20 percent penalty for not paying tithes. She’s referring to Leviticus 27 where Moses writes about things that people devoted to God and wanted to redeem back. If someone tithed something that they ended up having a need for.. maybe it was an animal.. then they could redeem it by paying the priest the value they determined for the tithe along with adding 1/5 or 20 percent to the value.

Leaders, did you know that, concerning giving, or tithing, or prosperity, Malachi 3:8-12 is not the full counsel of God? It is an excerpt, quoted to the church for centuries (believe it or not), which is a misrepresentation of God's counsel. We've accepted it because that's what we have always been taught. Here are a few points to consider. -- Who did God appoint to receive tithes? God said, "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth [the tithe] in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation (Numbers 18:21). In this scripture, God established who receives the tithe (the Levites), and why they received it (they received no inheritance, and they served in the temple). This assignment is exclusive to Levites. A pastor cannot assume this assignment, he has never been scripturally assigned by God to collect tithes, he is not a Levite. In that same sense, only a Levite, never a pastor, could ever conduct an animal sacrifice or even work in a Jewish temple. The church has not replaced the Jewish temple, and pastors have not replaced Levites. -- People are blessed when they give, not because of Malachi 3, which is based on the Law of Moses, an Old Testament law that has been replaced by Grace under Christ, at the cross. They are blessed because Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38). It is this principle of giving and receiving at work, when we give and are blessed. Not the expired law of tithing, which was required of the Jews (never Gentiles), and could only be received by Levite priests because they received no inheritance and were set apart to work fully in the Jewish temple. -- There is much more to this, such as Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek, Jacob's promise to tithe, the history of when and why the New Testament church tithes (there is actually a date!), and the biblical support for all these truths. To be clear, every pastor has a right to collect offerings in support of the ministry; I fully agree with supporting the church financially. But our giving must be godly. It is wrong to require people to tithe, contrary to the scriptures, then say that we live according to the scriptures. If you're interested in learning more, I have researched and written about this in "Tither, You Are Free!" Blessings to you and your ministry!

There are so many errors with this. Cain and Abel did not give a tithe, they gave first fruits… at least Abel did. Tithes and first fruits are not the same thing. Tithing does not obligate God to bless anyone… on the contrary, they tithed from what God had already blessed them with. Deuteronomy 28. God blessed the people, their bodies, and their lands, their cattle, their families, etc for their obedience to Him, by giving them rain and blessing them with the increase of produce, livestock, and children.

In the old covenant, God ordained the tribe of Levi to collect tithes and offerings from the children of Israel, according to the law [ Hebrew 7:5 ] gentiles were not ordained by God to take tithes and offerings from the children of Israel. In the new covenant, God did not ordained gentile pastors or ministers to take tithes from gentiles. It is against God for a gentile pastor or minister to take tithes from the children of God. Tithing is of the law, and no one is justified before God by the law, for "the righteous shall live by faith" [ Galatians 3:11 ] and the law is not of faith [ Galatians 3:12 ] and whatsoever is not of faith is sin [ Romans 14:23 ] and without faith it is impossible to please God [ Hebrew 11:6 ] God loves a cheerful giver [ 2 Corinthians 9:7 ] God wants cheerful givers, to give to the poor from the heart. It is more blessed to give than to receive [ Acts 20:35 ] freely you receive, freely you give [ Matthew 10:8 ] The apostles of Jesus did not collect tithes from the children of Israel, or from gentiles, because they were not ordained by God to take tithes under the law. Jesus said to His apostles and disciples, for whatever house you enter, there abide, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire [ Luke 10:7 ] and again, do not muzzle the ox that treaded out the corn. And, the labourer is worthy of his reward [ 1 Timothy 5:18 ] the labourer can live off whatever they give him. But this has nothing to do with collecting tithes under the law. If you're not a Levi, ordained by God, you have no business taking tithes under the law, from the children of God. Take heed in Jesus name.

Wrong on many levels. Where in the bible is the tithe described as "spiritual currency" and where in the bible are tithes received from earned wages? You really think that God obligates himself to bless people just because they pay money to a religious institution? That's absurd. Yes, biblical, systematic tithes were taxes specifically purposed for the Levitical theocracy, the poor, and for the festivals which began and ended under Mosaic Law. Only consumable items were accepted as tithe deliverables. No, there's nothing about systematic tithing in the garden of Eden, only offerings. And what Abram submitted to Melchizedek was a one-time gift from items he declared he wouldn't accept, not a systematic tithe. Abram gave away the rest of those items to the King of Sodom. There's no biblical evidence Abram ever "tithed" again. The bible doesn't present the option of monetizing a systematic tithe, with the possible exception of the redemption of it. That's something man invented after the bible was written. Malachi 3 was a narrative confined to the nation of Israel and further narrowed to the Levitical Priesthood in Malachi 2:1. And the tithe had nothing to do with money, only produce and livestock from within Israel. The "windows of heaven" is a simple reference to rain, not monetary blessings or anything else. "Meat in my house" is a literal reference. It has nothing to do with money. There's no such thing as a biblical tithe from earned wages. Jacob only promised a tithe IF God provided as he requested. There's no biblical evidence he ever paid a tithe. It's sad how people distort God's word to support ideals that aren't biblical. Giving is front and center in the Christian faith, money or otherwise, but there's no such thing as a biblical mandate for anyone to continuously pay 10% of their monetary earnings to a religious institution or anywhere else, nor is there any biblical promise of a blessing for doing so. We are free to give, not bound to pay.

In biblical times agriculture was their main form of wealth/income hence tithes were based on that. Now we have money, not agricultural produce hence tithes and offering are linked to money. At the end of the day its about putting God first whether it's your time or money. Because anything your love more than God is an idol.

@@nomaphelondzundzu741 Thanks for the feedback. Money was widely used in biblical times. In Genesis, money is mentioned several times. It's also evident money was paid as wages (Haggai 1:6). Tithes could be converted to money but not received as money (Deuteronomy 14:22-27). Only consumable items were received as systematic tithes. Leviticus 27:30 reads "A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord". Once again, only consumable items. Why? Most likely because only that which is produced by God, natural items, can be considered Holy. Money is man-made, not God-made. I agree in terms of giving, which is front and center in the Christian faith, but God isn't a mob boss or a slot machine. Blessings in your giving.

@@chairwomanpurpose8126 Just sharing, that's all. I appreciate the exchanges, even if they're from a different point of view. I don't even know how to put together "a page". I simply direct those interested in scripture to specific verses that are hermeneutically interpreted. It happens that the subject of tithing has been of interest to me for several years so I've spent considerable time researching scripture related to that topic. Blessings!

God was talking to the Levitical priests in Malachi because they had fallen away from collecting the tithe . The 11 tribes had to pay Levi because Levi did not have an inheritance, God was Levi's inheritance. Where in scripture does the tithe support the New Testament church?

So much confusion about tithing, it's coming from the old testament but the church's are making it a now day topic, if a person is not able to tithe, what about just giving an offering, and if they are able to pay tithes then they should.

Give to those in need, hands down. There is no such thing as a biblical tithe on earned wages, however the Bible does say in Proverbs 19:17, “He who has pity on the poor LENDS TO THE LORD, And He (God) will pay back what he (You) has given.”

Nope. Your tithe belongs to God. Alms goes to people. What people do with Gods money is not on you. But you honor God with your tithe. There is absolutely nothing in the Bible where tithe went to people in need from the people. It goes to the temple. But let the Holy Spirit educate you as you need no man to teach you.

Jesus said when you give your right hand should not know what your left hand did , Cause when you give and especially you give one tenth you become self righteous Giving is important but it should not get into your head So old school 1/10 giving is law Under grace new covenant it gets into your conscious and becomes a barrier between you and god Stop doing business and fooling people and black mailing them The lord turn your tables like he did on the temple with people doing business in the temple

Hey Aimster! The tithing system was under a covenant made between God and the levites for THEM ONLY to receive a tithe from their brethren, their fellow 11 tribes. (Numbers 18:20-26, Hebrews 7:5) That convent was to be established forever. We are now a part of a better convent in which we are free to give, not under compulsion or obligation but as the Lords leads us (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). So no, we cannot say that there is currently a such thing as a biblical tithe on earned wages. Blessings☺️

Just to share... It seems your inquiry is in regard to systematic tithing. In the bible, all systematic tithes were received as organic, consumable items from within Israel and were specifically purposed for the Levitical theocracy, the poor and for the festivals. Today's version of "tithing" money to a religious institution isn't biblically supported. It's simply the giving of offerings per the discretion of the giver. We are only biblically instructed to give cheerfully, not under compulsion. Blessings in your giving.

@A D It says clearly in Numbers 18 v 24. The tithe was required from the children of Israel for the Levi and their decendants. So go ahead and do the same by all means if you are a Israelite (Jewish person) and do ensure it goes to a Levi or any of the descendants of a Levi. It's not for a church.
