Sorry for bad english in advance but i would love to thank you for this informative vid. I just getting into solo-ttrpg stuff and trying to find out about principles of solo GMing and your channel looks like a great place to inform myself. As an alternative tools ive got myself supplements by Conjecture Games, these books are on drivethrurpg: CRGE, Conjectural Roleplaying GM Emulator BOLD, Universal PC Stories and Deeds Generator UNE, The Universal NPC Emulator if you'll decide to check them out i would love to hear your thoughts about them. Oh and also a short scenario via Mythic GM would be great to see, as an example

Hi friss0n, I think your english is just fine. As to the three solo RP tools you mentioned, I am aware of these and have looked at them at one time or another. I believe they can all have their uses, and like many tools, are up to a players taste. I see many of these solo tastes much like see someones tastes in music. Our tastes in music can evolve over time to, maybe, enjoy a wider palette. I fully expect that to be true for me as well ;) Because of this I will try and look at as many of these as I can. Thankfully the price point on these makes it easy to get ( I already owned a couple ) and review for the channel. I am adding these to my spreadsheet of things to review and/or use in my videos. After reviewing your message I spent some time going over them ( CRGE, BOLD, UNE ). I have also been thinking about how I could apply them in some upcoming videos. Thank you for bubbling up these oldies ( and goldies ) to the top. These definitely deserve some coverage on the channel. Its been a bit since I pulled these out or looked into them. As for using the Mythic GM, I will be using part of the Mythic GM system ( slightly modified with explanation ) in a video soon. I have a Dungeons and Dragons ( 5th edition ) solo series I am working towards running using Mythic and other materials. I am waiting on 5th edition to arrive along with some hardware I need to shoot the video. So its coming, just hang in there. It is something I am very excited about and I hope that it will get viewers excited with me. I also hope it will help to generate conversation and new ideas for solo role playing as we all collectively talk about it. Thank you so much for subscribing and reaching out!

I've got to agree with your take on the Chaos system. The first event would seem to cause a snowball, and before you know it, there's no way to avoid it and the whole adventure goes off the rails.

Hi HeadHunter, I think that it really is a simple and easy system overall. Given it's generic nature it can be a very good start, or intro, for the solo role player. I think even if you remove the chaos system from the system it still is a worthwhile system to consider. Thank you for the comment as well.

Thank you for another great video. As Solo RPG enthusiast I really appreciate that! I have a question though: during scene alternation/insterruption check against Chaos Rank, Mythic (p. 26) states in an example that if CHaos Rank is 7 and 7 or lower has been rolled, scene is altered. So in my opinion caption to this fragment should say: "equal or lower" not only lower (9:36). Am I getting it right?
@adventuresinsolitaire

Hy Szymon, you are absolutely correct. It should have been captioned as "equal or lower". Good call out. Thank you. Sorry if that caused you any confusion there.

An oracle like MGME is essential, and it has enough variability to fit that well. However, if you want the solid skeleton of a situation and progressing plots, with associated NPCs, to drop into I also suggest some others. Such as The Adventure Crafter, and The Covetous Poet's Adventure Creator systems. Although they can create all the beats of their own stories by themselves, they're also capable of generating an active world around your character as you go, and provide much more detail in what's happening. Or used, in a simplified form, for forming a beginning situation and event/scene generation. The downside being that they incite more act-like structure when fully utilized. Combined with an oracle system, they can help with a more defined narrative style web of events. Since solo'ing is basically generating a story, they can be useful for more detailed prompts.

Hi NefariousKoel, sorry for the delayed response here. I took a look at some of the tools you mentioned here. Though I have heard of both I had not dived into either in any major depth. I see where you have gotten value from these systems and they are incredibly powerful in there own right ( The Adventure Crafter in Particular ). Thank you for the comment and the information. Good stuff there!

@@adventuresinsolitaire - Thanks! While they may be more "railroad" style, and seem as if things were happening to characters more than free-form, that doesn't necessarily need to be a bad thing depending on what you want. A more movie/novel style approach I suppose. The Adventure Crafter, in particular, still has a good bit of interpretation and has an optional PoD deck of cards available which speeds it's use.

Thank you for that NefariousKoel. I'll keep those in mind. I always like it when a company includes cards as an option. For some reason I can't get enough of cards.

@@adventuresinsolitaire - Same. I got a set of both the MGME and Adventure Crafter decks. They're very good quality from DTRPG PoD. Although you'll still need the PDFs of those for learning how it all works.

I would recommend buying the PDF. You don’t need the whole book at the table. I have the Fate and Event Meaning tables printed double-sided. Laminate it and you are all set!

Hi Morta1337y, due to your suggestion, along with others interest ( and mine as well ), I have sent Word Mill a request for a review copy. It looks like they have made a lot of improvements and I am anxious to here their response. If they cannot send one it may be a bit before I can do the review as it will have to come from my household funds. Thank you for reaching out and asking and giving me the push to reach out to Word Mill Games. We shall see ;)

New subscriber here! Question for you (and thanks for vid was awesome)..but so have you ever used this book with like a pathfinder or published adventure?? If so how did it turn out and was it easy for solo??

I Murph 4! Thank you for joining the group! As to your question, I have a really hard time with hidden info that is visible in published adventures. At least in regards to solo play. So I dont actually own any for really any system. I know there are ways to help mitigate the issue of "hidden" info but I never have been able to let it rest. So I tend to go for CYOA for something that is pre-written. I think the closest I have come is story thread generators or some sort of CYOA rpg blend. I can certainly ask the Facebook group ( you are more than welcome to join if interested ) and get back with you. Give me a bit ( maybe 24 hours ) so I can give everyone a reasonable chance to respond and I will post back here for you. Thank you for the question and for joining the channel. I am glad to have you watching and commenting.

This was offered up by Dan W on the Facebook Group: "I'm not an expert and I'm currently just getting into running a D&D adventure solo for the first time. I found the tips in GM Yourself by Tom Scutt to be really helpful. Its more focused in D&D 5e but many of the tips can be applied to any system. Its a book made for running published adventures solo and its a good starting point in my opinion. Mythic is just an Oracle with some extra flare so it could work very well for answering questions in an adventure. That being said, it might be easier to just use a simpler D6 Yes/No oracle though. Since the adventure already contains a great deal of your story, you don't need all the extra stuff mythic offers as much as you would if you were building a story from scratch. Mythic is really good at creating structure out of nothing. A published adventure already brings that structure so it may be overkill. Thats my thoughts on it but I enjoy a rules light approach to my gaming"

@@adventuresinsolitaire wow okay so that makes sense then. I did order the Myrhic emulator yesterday as that will be good to have as backup. Maybe next step will be to look into that book GM to see how that could partner with mythic as I do think mythic system looks really cool. Thank you very much for following up with me !! 😀

@@murph-4 It really isn't a problem at all. I will pass your thoughts to Dan W as well. In regards to your purchase. I dont think it will hurt to have both. The way I look at it is like this. I could tell you that "this" system or...."that" system is what you "must have" or that is "right for you". But the problem with that is this, if you only ever get one system you will only ever really know one system. If I want to learn how to paint, then I will want to learn about multiple styles, If I want to find out what games or genre of game I want to play I would be better served trying them out...This list can keep going of course. I am finding that, in the solo community it seems to be exceptionally rare for someone to find "the" system. Often solo role players will have to blend multiple systems to get something to where it needs to be. Almost, in effect, making their own system because they have blended these systems, concepts and ideas. We have a few members doing just that in the facebook group. Sometimes, if it is one system that is meant for you, you will need to sample those various "flavors" to get to the one you want. What "sounds" good doesn't always work until you have sampled it. I have certainly had those cases from time to time. So you may find that Mythic does most or all of what you need ( not likely all ) or you may find those things you like and be that much more ready when looking at similar systems. I still have my mythic system by my side as I type. I think this is a sampling and growing process that the vast majority of us have to go through ( again unless you are incredibly lucky to find the best food you have ever tasted and never need taste another again...that kind of deal ). I hope that helps or that I am not over explaining or over-talking the issue. We were so glad to help and so very happy to have you on board. Thank you!
