Beautiful layout! You really captured the desert look. I've always wanted to base a train in the 4-corners area. Coal from Black Mesa on the Navajo reservation, oil from Bloomfield, NM, and mining from the La Platas in Colorado. It would connect to the Denver & Rio Grande Western. I wanted to put a bridge across Canyon de Chelly at Spider Rock. Love your long trains. I'm limited to around 20 cars on my small layout.

I spent 2 years in and around the 4-corners area of the South West. I was on the Navajo reservation in a couple of towns (Chinle and Tohlakai), and in Cortez, CO and Bloomfield, NM back in the mid-1980s. It's a beautiful area I enjoy going back to visit.

Thank you very much for your friendly compliments. The rock formations, open spaces, and colors of the desert intrigued me, because the scenery is so different were I come from. And of course I like American railroads!!! Have fun and success with your own"N" Project "Venta Spur" - Rolf

Rail Rolf is an absolute legend. Drops 8 videos of the most magnificent layout ever seen and then disappears with no explanation like a real life Bigfoot or D.B. Cooper. I find myself looking at these almost everyday trying to figure out the full layout but even if you freeze frame the switch panel that only leads to more unanswered questions….layout deserves it’s own full episode of in search of with Leonard Neimoy but sadly Neimoy is no longer on the case. Rolf if you’re reading this, I will fly to wherever you are and pay $100.00 per hour to pick your brain and lay eyes on this masterpiece myself. You can even blindfold me on the way so I can’t reveal the location of your top secret scratch building compound.

Hi, many thanks for kudos! If you take a look at the latest vid and you get an overview of the relatively small layout... is it really worth to travel miles for miles 😂? It's just one of hundreds of layouts from ambitious modelers. Best regards - Rolf

Hi Rolf! Wow, 2 years have passed since you've posted a video about your model railroad layout. It looks as great as ever! I couldn't even tell that your layout is still under construction. I guess that staying at home during the pandemic provides motivation to fight the boredom, enjoy your trains, build a little more on your layout and post some new videos. Thanks for sharing and stay well! -from Tom Pilling

I'm building an N scale hollow core door layout, and want to do a small imaginary Union Pacific branch line in a desert setting. I moved to Utah over a year ago, and have been looking at Google Maps at the various regions of this beautiful state for inspiration for my layout setting. While I have yet to see them in person, this state has some of the most breathtaking desert scenery in the country, like Zion, Arches, and Bryce Canyon National Parks, Moab State Park, the Bonneville Salt Flats, and the St. George region. I'm hoping I can capture the look, and feel of the St. George region, with it's bright red mesas, and cool rock formations.
