Hmmm... now that you've got something that is at coffee table height/size it makes me think: what if one widened the case to coffee table width, made the top of glass (see thru), and scaled down the train to at least Z... might make a fun layout that was more than just switching (not that there's anything wrong with that) to give family and guests something to look at... As usual, I love to see what you are doing, You're an inspiration to all of us with your creativity and skill. Thanks!!!

Yeah, I’ve been tempted to do a coffee table layout eventually.

I can certainly relate to not having any time to work on anything. That's the exact summer I have had. I've got a pile of work to do on projects but have had almost zero time to work on them between work and other obligations.

Hahahaha, retire and tell work to take a hike. I'm retired and now I have no time for projects.

I like this size layout. I like that there is a lid to protect it.

Steve, I was just wondering the other day, what you were up to. Not like you to be so long between posts. The house is looking good. That explains a lot. I am glad to see that you weren't having a case of model railroading burnout. Ahh! yes, kit bashing; It is an art all by itself. It is amazing how you can get so many cool structures and detailing parts from doing that. Glad to see your back. Take care. Best regards, Paul M.

Great to see the progress on this build. I love the folding leg idea while still having the padded feet; I'm going to have to borrow that idea for my own build.

Very nice portable layout. I have noticed that you have disconnection problems. It's strange since you placed feeders at all the critical points of the layout. Something similar happened to me in a switching layout with many interconnected turnouts.

So the locomotive in the video runs better now that it has been broken in. But, Im not sure if all of those issues were power dropping out or momentary shorts.

Nice progress! I’m starting my own n scale layout along with converting a Kato heavy 2-8-2 into a Southern Ms-4 using a GHQ kit.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the ideas and innovation!! Have you played around with magnets to decouple rolling stock yet? Have been meaning to but haven't. Merry Christmas!!!

I have but it is almost not worth the effort. N scale is finicky when it comes to uncoupling magnets, and unintended uncoupling is annoying. At some point I’ll try some electromagnets that can be turned on or off or some trap door type setups where you can raise and lower the magnets so they aren’t always active.

I watched some of ya videos like the one back in February. I thought you might be married and wondered how you were given free time? Hahahaha. Now I hear the refrain no time to make videos because ya doing a remodel. Hahahaha. Your videos are well done.

I've never quite understood why people start out with a track plan and then try to find structures which will fit the track arrangement. Why not start with structures and then make a track plan to fit them? Isn't that the way railroads do it?

Well I knew what I wanted to do for structures for the most part but also plan to make them easily removable so I can swap them out for different operating sessions. Mostly I wanted to have the layout fit in the case I built for it.

Along time ago Model Railroader suggested making all the scenery first and then laying the track for ultimate realism.

Well not always. I work in what was once a railroad industrial park. Many of the buildings are curved or angled to fit the track alignment. So it seems that the entire complex was designed with buildings & track together. Tracks were pulled up a few years back. The bumpy spots on the street and parking lots are now smooth.
