The production is top-notch, I'll give them that. But there's something about this that just feels... wrong. Like using children in a propaganda contest just to spite the EBU and the rest of Europe. I'll also give them that this set of countries is really great (so diverse and also very spread across continents) and that the musical level is decent, really decent in fact, some bangers in here and great voices. But it's just not JESC, which felt more spontanous and fun and even when Russia or Belarus weres participating. Yes, the EBU doesn't do this for the children, of course. But at least, there's some subtlety to it and an effort to let the kids do their own thing and become their own stars. Really dunno how to feel about delegations waving Russian bank flags. Just gonna leave it there. 😮💨

You're right. In JESC, you just see children having fun performing, while here... It feels very uncomfortable to watch it, knowing what is happening in Ukraine right now. Using children as a propaganda is so toxic (even more than the color of the presenter's dress). The whole thing sounds so forced and fake, like they are trying to hide something (we all know what). I just hope these kids will get the career they deserved, they're all so talented, they don't deserve this...

Waving because this is the main sponsor who paid for the full accommodation, food, organization and much more so that talented children and people could show themselves

Well this feels like a true split from JESC, which i love artistically speaking (much more than the Turkvizyon/Bala Turkvizyon spin-offs). Honestly JESC isn't that much "spontaneous" than this (the only feeling i got from someone not truly happy to be here came from the chinese artist, and it was more due to her competing in many different events and i'm not sure she felt truly happy to be there, but idk, i might be overthinking but i got a similar vibe from her that i had for San Marino at JESC 2015) And i don't understand your point, the russian , belarussian and kazach entries (and even the Armenian entry had they withdrawn from JESC) could have been straight follow-up from their last JESC entries, and i feel like the intent is truly being a direct follow-up to JESC, just after a split, sure , it's partially trolling JESC -specially with the flag parade or when Tania appeared-, but eh xd (and i mean, was Aliens more spontaneous than "Voice of love"? (or even their 2011 entry if one would try to argue that Belarus 2020 at JESC was already too much in a certain kind of spirit towards the contest)) And outside of the sponsors in the middle of the show , ads (for the NTV broadcast), a slightly different method of calculating the points (i wonder if they had actually less gaps between top votes before the withdrawal of some countries/artists, those gaps after 20 and before 9 point seemed a tad arbitrary (we had 16 countries planned during a while (before it went up to 17 then down to 13), so maybe they planned to go 1-12,14,17,20, go figure (+2 for the first gap and then whatever the middle is between the first gap and 20 points)), and use of cyrillic, if people had told me that this was any recent edition of JESC and i didn't know better, i would have believed it lol. (it's basically following the exact formula, from the dancers at the start to the interval acts) "an effort to let the kids do their own thing and become their own stars." I would have agreed with you if JESC had massively different rules than Our generation or if it had stayed the same contest it was from 2003 to 2007, but no, this is following what JESC is since adults are officially to at least co-write the songs (from 2008). I've read that same argument against JESC because of the adult composing rule (that actually make it watchable for adults), because "the kids actually don't do much by themselves". Sure it's a valid argument, but it applies against both contests, as Our generation is a GOOD copycat of JESC. Outside of any political situation of course. (even the online voting is laughable (some people in China were busy voting to promote the country probably lol), but that's also the case at JESC) The only thing this contest will always lack until they work more with other broadcasters, is that i really doubt that the contest will ever be held anywhere else than Russia, Belarus or China (just like Turkvizyon was never held outside of Turkey and besides Tatarstan they seemed to have trouble finding another host for that contest (they initially planned to hold it in Turkmenistan, then Kazachstan, than Azerbaijan , all failed so we got a 2020 online edition so that some of the 2016 and beyond planned artists get closure)) And just like Turkvizyon, that might hurt it in the long run. (but those production values MIGHT give "Our generation" (and potentially the upcoming "Intervision" is they don't the mess of the 2008 format again but give it the same treatment as Our generation vs JESC) the credibility that Turkvizyon never truly found outside of Turkey (the fact this is a true international contest that goes beyond the russian diaspora in terms of artists is actually a massive difference compared to Turkvizyon, even if Turkvizyon was great at what it was doing, but it was always going to be "stuck" with the turkish world, while this is already extending further the russian world (the only mistake on the long run would be sticking with russian language for everything (i think "Our generation" needs to do what happened during the South africa/Mauritius interviews in the green room, accepting english a tad more as a language as an hosting language (keeping it simple but explaining the basics of the show in english at the start, trying to use a bit more english in the green room and during the voting and then it's perfect (cause i don't feel it's a good feel for let's say the artist from South Africa to have to GUESS whether she received max points during the voting lol), everything else (including announcements of interval acts) can stay in russian (cause it wouldn't hurt throwing a sentence in english there and there so that an international audience non-russian speaking audience (including the artists themselves!) can keep up more easily (and tbh we have a precedent of a weird "local language" Eurovision event recently... Eurovision Young musicians 2022 held in France didn't feel international at all but felt like a locally produced show for a french audience only (english was never used outside of the voting results), which was weird too, sure it was "instrumental music", but it stuck out compared to past EYMs))

@@dirofreak Don't get me wrong, JESC is not like some sanctified institution or event with no mistakes or flaws. It has its mistakes and of course, I'm not gonna pretend it's just a fun competition for kids and laughs and love. We all know that's not real at all, there's money, there's tourism and many other things you can criticize it for, like the adult writer clause or the voting system. But the thing is, JESC isn't done for the purpose of propaganda. Heck, even Bala Türkvizyon wasn't made for the sole purpose of propaganda (other then maybe Türkiye being dumb and bitter about seeing more LGBT+ representation in the actual adult Eurovision). Sadly, "Our Generation" was done only for propaganda. It's a literal copycat of JESC and only came to be after Russia got kicked out of the EBU, nevermind hosting it one week before actual JESC and having Russian JESC stars performing in it. In fact, there are so many shady things that can be said about this event that I really don't think I have enough room or patience to list them all. And I'm really sad and kind of angry for this, cause the most affected ones are the children, who become toys and props for Russia's blatant propaganda. Don't you think? Oh and, by the way, I don't think this broadcast had any major international viewing at all. Was it really broadcasted in TVs across the participating countries? I don't think so, most people just watched the broadcast through the livestream on the NTV Russian-language website. Armenian representative Satti even shared the link to the NTV livestream on Instagram. So, it probably has the same international audience as any another domestic Eurovision national final. They didn't even care for bringing foreign broadcasters to the mix (which at least Türkvizyon did) to broadcast and publicize the contest because this was never about doing a kids' singing contest or just another international TV show, it's about propaganda aimed and done specifically for Russia. Mostly for Russians inside Russia. Again, my heart goes out to all the children involved, they don't deserve to become props for propaganda. 😢

@@marcelocarranza6280 Fair. And i don't think they're being used as toys (or again, not that more than JESC); it "simply" feel like what happened during cold war, with separate events (the big difference is that now the internet exists). We'll see how things evolve from now on, but i get your points.
