I love the way he just takes the scabbard off using just the momentum of pushing the blade forward, Awesome video

I have a Nihonto Naginata, Tokubetsu Hozon, signed Fujiwara Kunishige Saku, from the 1660's. I am thrilled at this cutting display. Please show more!

In the Philippines we use a similar tool to cut grass. We hold at the end of the handle to maximum momentum. No need for defense because grass dont fight back.

I really like the Naginata arts. It's simple, very wieldy and doesn't require huge amounts of strength. Funnily enough, just like wing chun, Naginatajutsu is mainly for womens martial arts, due to it's reliance on technique rather than strength, ironically making it much more deadly and viable for everyone including men like me who has 9 year old big belly working at a desk job at the office lol

seems to defeat the whole purpose of having a poleweapon - to choke up that far
@Juken85

naginata isn't a spear. Long pole is just need to have the amplitude and cut an horse's head or to cut through the armor. If you take your naginata at the kojiri an miss your enemy when you cut, you have your guard open too much (because of the weight and inertia). Long weapons as spear where used to pierce; not to cut (because of weigh and inertia). During edo period, women used to learn naginata, but never used it on any battlefield. Today practice descends from this use and loose a lot of efficacity. Some schools as Katori shinto ryu use naginata in an effective way. I practice one of those schools name ryoen ryu naginatajutsu (under the direction of Shimizu Nobuko sensei). An other point, if you keep your hands at the middle, you can use kojiri to protect yourself from a counter attack if you missed your target.

Hi V.V. Malazan :) Well...in fact the best way to learn is in a school, under the direction of some teacher...you can work alone after some years of study, try to appreciate the style and to explore different ways. Where are you from? Maybe there is a school near your location?

@@Juken85 Yeah, I hear all of that but I still think this is ridiculous. You lose any advantage of having a staff weapon by choking up that far. Better off just using a sword at this point. I also doubt this thing's ability to cut through armor. Show me a valid scientific test of it achieving that - I doubt it.

"Ide seh it wood suk 2 bee in frunt uv innie weppin" Typical pansy you are to me, Guns are way more a dumber way to kill someone, who needs a gun when you can slice an intruder/home invader/rapist/burglar in half with a Samurai sword or this weapon that this guy is using.. Katanas and Naginatas are the ultimate badassery weapons for me..
